Thread: A small VM character limit increase.

Sometimes when VMing other users, I need to break down my VMs so that they can be processed as I have exceeded the character limit. Reading broken down VMs is a small inconvienience, but VMs are something that a great many users use everyday and it is the easiest/simplest way of contacting another user on here. What I am suggesting is a character limit increase, similar to the blog character limit increase. I was thinking that maybe an increase of 20% to 1200 characters per VM, but any increase I think would be a nice addition.

You are my hero. I've been complaining about this for quite a while now. Although I disagree with 1200. I suggest 2000. But I've even broken that...

It's especially annoying if you're trying to VM on a mobile device (thus using a touch-screen keyboard, making the message take all the longer to type) only to be told it's too long to send, so you can't copy-paste the bit that makes it too long- oh, no, you have to delete it, then retype it from memory! It makes me want to scream. In fact, I think I will. *SCREAMS*

Aren't messages that long usually sent as PM's?

I can't speak for others, but generally I don't if it's something that I don't mind others seeing, regardless of how long it is.

Plus the VM process seems easier, and seeing the message history is easier than the PM one, which requires you to still have the PMs (which, if you have a lot of them, you may need to delete).

I think this is a very do-able thing to change. The staff will poke around

2000 characters is not very long.

And I cannot tell you how much I loathe PMs. It's not even funny. It's very difficult to track conversations, with each PM there are more and more quotes added (and they look atrocious). While you can remove the quotes, doing so would mean you would need to check your sent messages folder, or a previous PM where it was still quoted. The whole process of PM sending is a bigger pain then it should be. I don't know why any sane person would want to utilize PMs for frivolous VM conversations. VMs are amazing. Simple to use, easy to view entire conversations, easy to reply to; it's the best aspect on these forums, in my opinion.

There's a history button under the input box on the right side when sending PMs. You can track conversations that way. You don't even need to keep the quotes in the reply field.

That said, the VM limit is now 2000.

Longer plz. I sent three 1500 VMs using all characters. 4500 that equals.

And I'm happy with the increase, yes!

Also, I don't think it should be increased further. Anymore and it'll become an eyesore on our profiles. Imagine tl;dr posts from every ten people that post on your page. That's not going to look good. Then we'll need an option added to hide certain comments to make viewing easier XD

I think the rarity of times you'll hit 2000+ makes adding more foolish.
