News bar for the forums

DOWN. I've been on forums with these and found them to be a nuisance. Most of the news displayed on them is stuff that most people don't care about, and they take up space and are hard to ignore. I'd be OK with it if it could be turned off whenever you wanted.

I suppose you could click a box in the User CP which turns it on or off. Of course, that depends entirely on if it's possible in the first place.

A small suggestion: In the news bar, if there's an announcement, the announcement text should be a link, so if someone wants to see the thread about the announcement, they just have to click on the text to see it.
