"Bump thread to top" button.
Many other forums have this. A little button you can click to send a thread up to the first page without having to post in it. This would come with new rules of course, but it's not good etiquette to post a bunch of times just so people see a thread.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
I've never even heard of this before. But even if it was possible to have it I don't like it. If people aren't posting in a thread then they likely have nothing more to say.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
There's no reason to have a thread on the first page if no one wants to post in it.
The exception is informational sticky threads, and we already have them.
In which situation do you think having this would be helpful?
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
If a thread deserves to be posted in more, then just post in it. Or nicely ask someone else to post in it.

http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f425/school-steampunk-sign-ups-open-132449/ That there thread. I really want the RP to start 'cause I made a really awesome character, but it needs more people.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
In the vg section, there are threads as old as 2006 from the time of start of D/P. Now imagine a scenario where trolls decide to click this revive button to revive 100s of threads of that era. There is no discussion to be made in these threads since they are irrelevant now and they will simply clutter up the place. The button you are suggesting is easy to abuse.
As for the rp, you can vm your contacts here or simply revive it yourself.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
I think that bumping an inactive thread is only justifiable if you genuinely have something new to contribute to it. If you're not willing to do even that, then you shouldn't be reviving that thread in the first place.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
Bad idea.
Too easy to abuse this.

Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
Well if no one sees it, then no one signs up. Pretty much everyone assumes that page 2 equals a closed sign-up, so no one's going to be going and looking there. You make a good point about blogs though.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
You could also VM people who you think might be interested, or who you want to play with.
Or you could ask one of your friends to bump the thread for you.
Re: "Bump thread to top" button.
Bumping a thread is no guarantee that people would be interested in posting in it again. If you have an RP or Mafia game that needs sign-ups, you already have VMs, Blogs and your signature at your disposal.
Just don't send unwanted spam VMs to random people.
