    Default The Bulbagarden Comic

I've been thinking, Bulbagarden needs a real community project going for it, one that writers, artists and general members can enjoy both making and reading. Thus, I propose this: an online comic, drawn by the artists, both decent and incredible, and written by the excellent and decent writers of the Writer's Workshop, plus Members of the forums could also pitch in by suggesting ideas they'd like to see play out, just to make it for everyone by everyone.

If we do do this, I'd suggest we have a 'head writer' and 'head artist' to keep a consistant main storyline, but we could play the comic out like the old Sonic the Comic by Fleetway, where other writers write a story, other artists draw it up and it'sbrought out with the rest of the issue, main story and another plot all in one, as can be seen in the StC-Online continuation: Sonic the Comic - Online!

I'm not saying we produce something to sell or anything of the sort, but rather one big project for all of us to pitch in and develop, Writers, Artists and all. And perhaps it could be used to bring in new members, like a sort of advertisement for the forums =P

Heck yes. This is probably the greatest idea on the idea forum.

Complicated to do, but no official position about it.

I'm shaky on this. I'm not sure this should be a big project, we could very easily do this with a small group.

I'd be up for publishing this on Bulbanews if it took off.

I think it'd be a lot of fun, but the problem is motivation and time--I think the writers would have to be willing to write out a full story, beginning to end, before the artists begin drawing it, so that it does not fizzle out and never end, or keep going without a point. And time, again, a lot of people are going to start getting really busy with the end of summer and the return to school, and there's work for many as well, so it will be a real time commitment I think.

That and... I kinda fail to see how a comic based on a website would work.

Well, there's been a few before, but I don't think Bulbagarden is the kind of thing that can be adapted into a comic...

Alternatively, we could always include comics in National Bulbagraphic--it'd help give the magazine more of a 'newspaper' feel.

Ohh! That's also a fun idea, because then they could just be various strips about Pokémon and/or BMGf and not really even need a story/plot =D

...or we could publish it on the part of the site that already has a newspaper-y feel.

Bulbagraphic is a once a month thing. Bulbanews is as often as you want. If we want it to be a monthly thing Bulbagraphic would be the way to go. Any more frequent and it'd go on news.

Monthly would great. Sure, the readers might yearn for more, but whoever worked on this would have plenty of time and it wouldn't feel much of a load.

I'm a writer, I'd be willing to work on a few plots. I doubt I'd do a main one, I'd rather leave that to the superior writers :L

And I never suggested we base it on the forums, I was thinking a more original Pokémon stories, not based on any of the games, other then the regions and necessary characters. Basically a big fanfic with fanart as a framing device for the story, otherwise called a fancomic :L

Edit: Also, I'd advise a Bimonthly approach: one every 2 months to give the artists and writers time.

Once a month or every two months sounds pretty good to me; if the comics were published too frequently, some readers could end up losing interest, and it also gives the writers/artists more time to work on the comics themselves (quality > quantity, after all).

What if, to give it that more newspapery feel, artists could each make their own strips to submit which then those in charge of Bulbagraphic selected perhaps three a month/two months to show? And perhaps one of them would be the big comic that has writers/artists working together on it and it would always show every one/two months while the other strips would be ones drawn by BMGf members and selected by the Bulbagraphic staff?

I can't word this right XD... so I'll just make an example (making up comic titles):
Month One Comics: The Big One, The Slow King's Tale, and Master Mon
Month Two: The Big One, Poké Poffins, and The Firetype Suite
Month Three: The Big One, Silver and Gold Coins, and Master Mon

So, the big comic that everyone works on always is featured, and then two other comics (either randomly picked from submissions or voted on by Bulbagraphic staff) accompany it. I hope I am making sense.
