Thread: Who's your favorite Rival?

I got 10 times more respect for Silver when he tracked me down at Mt. Moon. I had a team of pokemon in the low, say, 10s for training against wilds and then he comes and kicks my Awesome-Pokemon-In-Training out the door.

Still haven't worked up the guts to try again after that manslaughter. I have a mix of respect and hate boiling for that guy.

Silver
I like his new hairstyleHe just gave off that 'I'm a badass, don't mess with me' kind of vibe and I like that in a rival. Plus, his battle music is awesome.

Brendan/May
Well...I like their designs. I guess I liked them because it was a break from the mean rivals. And I, for one, had a hard time trying to defeat them.

What can I say? I'm such a Sinnoh fan-tard! ;D I like his spazzy, impatient, obnoxious attitude. Plus, he's funny.
Funny rival = Win

I swear I'm like the only person who actually dislikes Silver.

yea, but he's the only one with a storyline, the others are all just "Weve been rivals since birth! fight me!" He has a past, not just the copy paste backstory with some personality

Wally: Because he was one of those trainers who while trying to be able to beat you, wasn't always in your face and being a jerk. Plus he has a nice role in the game.

Silver: I'm starting to like him a bit, but the reason being because of his easiness. I mean he thinks he's all that but you always whoop his butt and show him up, yet he continues to think he's good. Really to me, he's comic relief.

Brandon: I really just like his friendly personality and his outfit. Plus his hat is awesome.

Blue: "Smell ya later!" gets me every time.

Silver: His themes in HG/SS are epic.

Brendan/May: I don't know why I picked them. They're not much of rivals to be honest.

Barry: I like how he randomly bumps into you when you run into him.

I like his design and battle music, but aside from that, he gets on my nerves. Sure, the rival is supposed to have a parallel opinion to the main character; but they could give more justification than "I don't like my Daddy". I'm sure Freud would want to talk to him.

His design is alright, but the way Silver was made just screams "Cliche asshole".

The rival doesn't have to be all cookies and flowers about everything, but the whole "fuck you, ill do what I want, I'm better than you" personality just annoys me.

I like Barry's personality. His storyline could be better, but he has the best and most...I guess you can say realistic personality.

I personally like the battle music for Brendon/May the best.

Barry's awesome, he's hilarious and actually seems like a nice guy. (In contrast to Silver and Blue.)

Not really. I mean, even ignoring my fic, he's a kid who was abandoned by his criminal parents, left to fend for himself, and now he has this psychological need to be strong to make up for his parents' weakness. And he gets worse because he keeps losing. Finally, Lance manages to get through to him and he starts thinking he's actually wrong. Then he starts to get better. The gruffness is still there, but he isn't as bad.

I agree. The friendly rivals in III and IV seemed like more of a change of pace than Silver. I mean, Gary was not a nice guy either, even if he wasn't a criminal.

Just wondering, has his mom ever been mentioned ingame or in the series at all? Or can we assume she died early in his life? I don't believe I ever heard anything about his mom.

Eh, it always seemed to me Ariana was his mother, but whatever.
