In this comparison, we have Steelix (ハガネール Haganēru), the Iron Snake Pokémon, and Excadrill (ドリュウズ Doryuuzu), the Deep Earth Pokémon.
What's so similar about them? One's Steel/Ground-type, the other's Ground/Steel-type; the same two types, just in different orders. They're also known for their digging.
Steelix is easily the more recognizable, having been around since Gold and Silver (and actually having an English name as of this post). Its Defense is especially notable, with a resiliant base value of 200. Its Attack is also decent, but the rest of its stats are either mediocre (HP and Sp. Defense) or pathetic (Sp. Attack and Speed). However, it has options. Earthquake, a strong Gyro Ball, Roar, Stealth Rock, the Elemental Fangs, and for a gimmicky Speed idea, Rock Polish and Iron Head.
Doryuuzu is a new player, and my God, does it play. Its Ability, Sand Paddle, coupled with its base 88 Speed, makes it insanely fast in Sandstorm. It's Attack is at a massive base 135, made even more terrifying by Swords Dance! With base 110 HP as well, it already looks like a beast of a Sand sweeper (because it is). But there's (somewhat) bad things, as well. As if to limit its great HP, its Defenses are quite low; in fact, its Defense is the lowest of Steel-types. Its movepool is very limited (it even lacks Stone Edge for some reason), but it has what it needs in SD, Earthquake, Rock Slide, and X-Scissor. And maybe Rapid Spin.
Which one looks better?
Which would win in a battle?
Which is generally cooler?
I say Excadrill.
