Serperior Vs Ferrothorn
VS
The two most notable defensive Grass types of the fifth Generation. I haven't been around for a while so I dunno if someone already made this thread. If so, close it, by all means.
Serperior has much more speed than Ferrothorn. She also gets Contrary, Leaf Storm and a much more well rounded stat spread. Throw in a lot of strong Grass type moves, a very fast Subseed and respectable defenses on both sides, you've got yourself one tough cookie. The downsides include bad defensive typing, single typing and a ridiculously shallow movepool, notably lacking a reliable recovery move.
Ferrothorn has better overall defenses, a great defensive ability, a double typing with STEEL, less weaknesses and more resistances, access to Stealth Rock, Spikes and Leech Seed and Power Whip/Gyro Ball. Downsides include a quad weakness to Fire, missing out on a key Ground weakness and less options for offensive Grass type moves, no reliable recovery, no Rapid Spin and a nerfed Explosion.
So, which do you like better?
Who's more useful?
Who'd win in a fight?
I'll be honest, these two are my favorite Grass types of the new generation. Serperior just looks so regal and elegant and smug. Ferrothorn's a Grass/Steel which I've been wanting since Gen II. Ferrothorn is like a better Forretress, making him one of the definitive walls of OU. Serperior is a badass subseeder and has access to a Contrary boosted Leaf Storm. I like them both so much, it's so hard for me to decide. In the end, I think I'll choose Serperior because of it's design and because I have a bias for Starter Pokemon.
