    Default Relicanth vs. Carracosta

    vs.

Today's Contest is brought to you by me, Ultra Pidgeot. It's yet another entry in my Contest-For-Every-WeekDay-Challenge (that's copyrighted, kiddies, so if you use it without my permission, you have to give Uncle Ultra Pidgeot a quarter!). Today's match-up is between Relicanth and Carracosta, the two Water/Rock types. They're both old, they're both Water/Rock, and they're both cool. Who will win?

    Looks?

    Battling?

    All Around Coolness?

Looks? Carracosta. Battling? Don't know/care. All around coolness? Relicanth.

My vote in the end goes to Relicanth because he's based off of a Coelacanth, which is my personal favorite fish. Carracosta looks wicked awesome sweet, but in the end, I gotta give it to The Longevity Pokémon.

I like both but abagoura, being my 2nd favorite gen 5 pokemon, is the winner in my opinion.

Both of them are very ancient, and because of this, they are both aesthetically brilliant. Both of these Pokemon are able to acquire the ability Swift Swim too, which is great.

Relicanth is one of the few Pokemon that can use Head Smash without the huge recoil, which is something not many Pokemon can even do. But then, Abagoora is able to learn the treasured Shell Smash, allowing him to get a great speed boost and great attacking power, which is also great. Looking at these, I am inclined to choose the latter because of this advantage. It would be even better if Abagoora acquires Swift Swim (which is a Dream World ability).

    Thanks for reading.

This will be just like my analysis of the Yanmega vs. Ninjask.
First, base stats. Both Pokemon use more Physical moves than Special moves, but I'll compare both anyway.

    Abagoura base Attack 108
    Relicanth base Defense 130
    Difference of 22, advantage Relicanth.

    Relicanth base Attack 90
    Abagoura base Defence 133
    Difference of 43, advantage Abagoura.

    Abagoura base Special Attack 83
    Relicanth base Special Defence 65
    Difference of 18, advantage Abagoura.

    Relicanth base Special Attack 45
    Abagoura base Special Defence 65
    Difference of 20, advantage Abagoura.

    Relicanth base Speed 55
    Abagoura base Speed 32
    Difference of 23, advantage Relicanth.

    Abagoura base HP 74
    Relicanth base HP 100
    Difference of 26, advantage Relicanth.

Abagoura outclasses Relicanth in blocking Physical hits, and a slight advantage in blocking Special hits. Relicanth is much faster, however, and also can soak up more damage.

Now to look at abilities.I didn't do this with the Yanmega vs. Ninjask, since their abilities didn't affect the battles against each other.

    Abagoura Abilities:
Solid Rock: Halves the damage from Super Effective Moves.
Sturdy: Prevents OHKO's, is now more like a built in Focus Sash.
    Dream World Ability:
Swift Swim: Doubles Speed in Heavy Rain.

    Relicanth Abilities:
Swift Swim: Doubles Speed in Heavy Rain.
    Rock Head Prevents recoil damage.
    Dream World Ability:
Sturdy: Prevents OHKO's, is now more like a built in Focus Sash.

For Abagoura, Solid Rock's halving the damage from the shared move Earthquake is essential, giving Abagoura a distinct advantage.
Swift Swim would let Abagoura slip ahead in speed unless Relicanth has that too.
Sturdy is pointless, as it is very unlikely that Relicanth could pull off a OHKO on Abagoura.

Relicanth is really out of options here, what with its recoil moves being NVE against Abagoura, thus rendering Rock Head Ability effectively useless. Scratch that, apparently Rock-Type moves do OK against Water/Rock-Types, so I guess Rock Head is OK.
And Relicanth is already faster than Abagoura, so Swift Swim is useless as well unless you predict that the opponent's Abagoura will have Swift Swim as well.
Relicanth's best option is Sturdy, which prevents the more offensive Abagoura from pulling off a OHKO.

Now for the best part. MOVES!

Abagoura's best Anti-Relicanth moves are Level Ground and Earthquake. Dig is also an option, but the risk of double Damage from Relicanth countering with Earthquake is much too dangerous.
Level Ground also slows down the opponent, which is important for Abagoura.

For Relicanth, Rock Head and Earthquake are the way to go. Head Smash gets 150 Base Power plus STAB, for a total of 225 power level. This is KEY! Relicanth's best move. Combined with Superior Speed and a Focus Sash, Relicanth may just pull off a win.

All in all, though, my vote goes to... Abagoura, for being a better attacker.

Abagoura doesn't have a red dot on it, so it can't quite cut it for me. Plus it looks too much like a Riolu bred with a Blastoise...
I still don't have a banner for it, but I'm going to keep the link to this wiki in my sig' anyway. Y'know, because it means a lot to me.

Umm.. the turtle of course. I love amphibians and reptiles, and this Pokémon is just plain epic. It has a guaranteed spot as my surfer on White.

Personally I think they both ... rock. However, I'm going to go with Relicanth, because ... well, I can't say that I don't like Abagoora, but being based on a coelacanth totally wins it for me.

    Puns what puns.
