@Saiga Believe it or not, that's a common misconception. Actually, I rather like quite a few Fire types. I just don't like the ones that are called Charizard, Infernape or Heatran.

For example, aside from Houndour/Doom being my second favorite Pokemon (family) ever, I also really like Vulpix/Ninetales, Growlithe/Arcanine, Cyndaquil's family, Torchic's family, Chandelure, and Volcarona (plus Entei, Ho-Oh and Reshiram.)

Furthermore, I have recently developed a fondness for Flareon, Torkoal, Camerupt, Tepig's family, Pan/Simisear and Darmanitan. Hell, I can even respect that Infernape is an excellent fighter.

The problem for me is the fact that Fire tends to dwarf Water and Grass in overall popularity within the fandom (not the competitive scene. Water is clearly the dominant one there,) and as such, people often ignore great Pokemon of other types in favor of the Fire type. Most Fire Pokemon themselves, I have no problem with.

While I do think Mightyena's design is pretty cool, he's next to useless with a pitiful movepool and low stats. In my opinion, Houndoom is cooler looking, plus is pretty much indisputably stronger.

Houndoom I think both looks better and is better in battle.

Houndoom has always been much more appealing to me both design-wise and ingame. It's a great fire-type Pokemon by itself.

Mightyena's a BAMF, and definitely underrated, but...I love Fire types too much. Houndoom gets my vote.

I like both of them, but when it comes down to who looks more dark, menacing, and more powerful it would be Houndoom 100%. Sure Mightyena can have some good traits as a Physically offensive Pokemon, but Houndoom has so many versatile roles in competitive battle, when comparing. Also Houndoom is able to learn Nasty Plot for it's already high special attack and is able to use Sun boosted STAB fire attacks.

Are you kidding? Houndoom, definitely! Better moves, better design, and definitely more useful in battle!
