Thread: Ferrothorn vs Forretress

Alright, this time, it's a competition between two turret-like Pokemon (technically Forretress is the one turret-like, but you get the point!). These Pokemon have a few things in common, the obvious one being the secondary Steel type, but both are also slow!

With the match-up in mind, let's answer a few questions:
- Who's the more useful of the duo?
- Who would win between each other?
- Who's the one with the good looks/design?
- Who's the ONE for you?

My turn first, because I am the first poster after all. Personally, I prefer Nattorei, because he/she seems quite sturdy with those great defences and useful resistances, meaning that against some unfavourable matchups, he/she can survive like Magnezone's HP Fire and even Salamence's Fire Blasts! His/her Attack isn't too shabby either, as he/she also come with two great moves to capitalise on taking advantage of it: Power Whip and Gyro Ball. Gyro Ball, especially, since his/her Speed is so low that you might as well make it as low as possible to make it stronger. His/her supporting options are also great too, as he/she gets Leech Seed, Spikes, Stealth Rock, Gravity, Thunder Wave as some of them. Let's not forget his/her awesome ability that discourage contact moves, since he/she makes it painful everytime the opponent hits.

As for a match between the two, I can honestly see Nattorei being the top of the two because he/she can out-stall Forretress with Leech Seed and maybe get some attacks in, since Forretress doesn't have recovery moves besides Rest. When it comes to looks...although I prefer's Nattorei's, I guess I would give Forretress a win because I want to be generous with him/her, since a turret bug is as awesome as a dangling spike ball that ambushes foes. That said, you know who I prefer...Nattorei!

Nattorei. I plan on having one, and I personally find the Bug/Steel types pretty overrated.

Pretty sure Natty doesn't get Rapid Spin. But I like it more anyway.

I'm also planning on getting Nattorei. First thing that caught my eye was the typing, I've been waiting for GameFreak to introduce it for a while now.

I do prefer Nattorei's design over Forretress'. They both don't have very great designs, but out of the two I would pick the spiky metal strainer with tentacles over the spinning brain (Forretress' Gold/Silver sprite comes to mind..)

Battle-wise, they both have their uses and advantages, but I think in the metagame, Forretress is mainly a spinner while Nattorei can take some hits and inflict some status/hazards (I'll have to check its movepool, later). In-game, though, I believe they both excel, but I'd rather use Nattorei at the Battle Frontier/Subway/WiFi Online.

Nattorei's stats clearly win over Forretress' stats. They both have the same HP Base, off by one point from Nattorei's side. Their attack stats are nearly the same also, with a 4 point difference. This is true for their SP.ATK stats as well, with only a 6 point difference. But the most important change is Nattorei's great SP.DEF beating the latter's by 56pts. The increase is mostly attributed to Nattorei's inferior Speed which lags behind Forretress by 20pts, but this is not really a disadvantage at all, because one wouldn't use either for their speed.

Slap Curse and Gyro Ball on it and go nuts. Or if thats not your cup of tea use stuff like Thunder-wave and Stealth Rocks for laughs.

Nattorei! Better stats and typing. Gonna get one when English B/W comes out.

Once again, Im not going to pay much attention to strength. Nattorei hands-down wins in design. Also....its a durian! Ill bet it tastes really good. Using one in "Grey".

Forretress. I like how he looks. I guess that Nattorei is pretty cool, but I still like Forretress more.

Gotta give it to my main man Nattorei here, for a couple of reasons.

As you all should know by now, I'm a big fan of Grass types. Score one for Nattorei.

When Foretress was introduced, it got kind of eclipsed by Scizor as a Bug/Steel and now the typings been given to more people than you can shake a stick at. Score one against Foretress.

Conversely, Nattorei has unique typing and a type combo I've been wanting since Gen II. Score another point for Nattorei.

Foretress always looked bland to me. Nattorei, on the other hand, looks awesome. Point for Nattorei.

Nattorei has awesome defensive stats, typing, support movepool and heavy hitting attacks (Power Whip, Gyro Ball). That's four points for Nattorei.

Foretress does get Rapid Spin though. Point for Foretress.

Foretress might win in a fight if it bothered to use neutral hitting Bug type moves to Nattorei's resisted STABs. Point for Forty.

In the end, we add up all the point together and that gives us:

Nattorei: 7
Foretress: 1

The winner is pretty clear here.

Foretress is sort of cool in his own right, but I think that Nattorei trumps him in everything else.

Nattorei just looks freaking awesome, as do 95% of all of the Gen V pokemon. Easy vote.
