Thread: Feraligatr vs Empoleon

Oof... I love Empoleon, but Feraligatr has a slightly better design. That, and I voted against Feraligatr in every other poll, so it was sort of due for a win.

I voted Feraligatr, mainly because I've trained both and I liked Feraligatr better. I'm also not overly fond of Empoleon's design.

Which one do you prefer?
I really like both of these guys a lot. They both have great and interesting designs. However, because Feraligatr was my.....second? starter I think...I chose him in this area.

Which one is more useful overall?
Honestly, they are both pretty useful. However, Empoleon trumps Feraligatr here because of its awesome typing and resistances.

Which one would win in a battle?
I don't really know. I think that Feraligatr would probably win with Earthquake after a Swords Dance. So Feraligatr wins here.

Feraligatr ultimately wins. Go Feraligatr!

Swords Dance + Life Orb + Brute Force + Earthquake = Dead Empoleon

Normally, I'd say Feraligatr, but Empoleon's typing and the resistances it enjoys because of it, plus its defense, make for a great tank.

who has 2 double resistances, 9 resistances and one immunity with a great sp. atk?

I would go with Feraligatr because of its DW ability giving him a potential to compete with Gyarados using a DD set (that is, if GF were to allow us to have female DW starters). Empoleon is still good, but Feraligatr's design appeals to me more.

Feraligatr definitely. I hate Empoleon with a passion. Feraligatr just has better design, movepool, and overall bossness.

Feraligatr by far, since I dislike Empoleon's design.

I do like Empoleon's design, but Feraligatr is my second favourite starter and I really like it. Pity that atm Feraligatr is just a poor man's Gyarados.

Empoleon is really my favourite starter of choice now, so I would say that I prefer it slightly over Feraligatr

Well Empoleon has many versatile roles in battle on both the defensive and offensive ends of the scale, so I would say it's more useful.

Which one would win in a battle?
Well unfortunately Empoleon doesn't have anything to hit Feraligatr hard with and Feraligatr has SuperPower, so I would have to admit that Feraligatr would win against Empoleon.

Update: I forgot about Grass Knot, so Empoleon could potentially 2HKO Feraligatr under certain circumstances. I will say they are both evenly matched on this basis.

I actually really like both, and most of the Water starters. Both of the designs are really cool, and in competitive play they both have certain niches in their respective tiers. However if I had to choose I'd pick Empoleon. I've always really liked him and using him ingame was always really fun. Not to say that Feraligatr wasn't fun, it may even be more so to use in GSC/HGSS, it's just that Empoleon is an awesome Emperor Penguin who was also my first 4th generation starter.

XD yeah I forgot about that, but I'm not sure if it could potentially OHKO Feraligatr?

It's a 2HKO according to the damage calculator I used, provided both Empoleon and Feraligatr are using offensive sets.
