They both have some pretty.. 'reguar' designs, but I think a bee with drills for arms wins over a generic butterfly anyday. So Beedrill wins in terms of design.

Battle-wise, up until Generation V they were both the same to me. You know, until Quiver Dance hit Bug-Types and everything else in the game. Butterfree wins.

They're both great, but I think I'll have to go with Butterfree on this one. It has a design as well as a refreshed usage in battle.

    tl;dr - Butterfree

I voted Butterfree simply because it can learn Psychic-type moves...
    Beedrill doesn't stand a chance. :3
    Plus, I prefer Butterfree. ;)
    I have claimed Druddigon! Muhahahaha!

Credit goes to Shadow Raikou for the Umbreon/Jolteon and Corruption for the super awesome Tyranitar! :D

Well, that depends. Are we talking Gen1 or post-Gen1?

In RGBY, I can see either one owning. Beedrill, especially. Twinneedle+PinMissile+STAB+speed=DEATH TO ALAKAZAM AND HIS MISERABLE DEFENSE. With Butterfree, however, it's Psybeam+SleepPowder+PoisonPowder+StunSpore=Beedrill's gone, and the other many Poisons are out.

As fo the other genrations, I'd say Beedrill wins with, again, his speed and attack+a variety of STAB moves (not much of a competitive player.)

So, the bee/wasp/hornet gets the vote.

Butterfree for these following reasons: Tinted Lens, Quiver Dance, Sleep Powder, Energy Ball, and Psychic.

Overall, Butterfree wins for me. Its got a cute design, and it can learn various Psychic-type attacks, which is pretty good.

Personally, I like Beedrill's design better, and although it can't learn any Psychic moves, I still think it could edge out a win.
Crack some heads for me, darlings. Thank you, and good night.

Butterfree gets my vote. I prefer its design, ability, stats and movepool over Beedrill's. But I prefer Beedrill's typing more though.

Beedrill is a quick-tempered, insanely aggressive giant bee equipped with dreadful drill-stings that would sadistically stab to death anyone unlucky enough to step on its territory... NO THANKS. I'll stick with dear, sweet Butterfree. I suffer from a huge phobia over flying insects and their buzz; butterflies are the only bugs I don't fear. They're beautiful, and silent. I truly love Butterfree's design and capability of learning Psychic-type moves. STAY AWAY BEEDRILL.

I pick Butterfree, it's a pretty butterfly vs Beedrill which is a giant bee with a giant stinger >.< I really do not like bees at all, plus I find Butterfree's design better even besides that. Since Butterfree can learn Psychic type moves, it could beat Beedrill in a battle as well. I consider Butterfree better than Beedrill.

Maybe, maybe not. My Beedrill Sting in SS kept snuggling up to me and hugging me. He seemed pretty sweet-tempered.

As for the poll, I voted Beedrill. Why? Mine was a powerhouse in SS. Seriously, Sting took out Whitney's freaking Miltank so yeah, Beedrill wins this one hands down.

The Pokédex (and the anime, if I recall correctly... I only watched it as a kid so I'm not sure) depicts Beedrill in an unpleasant way. If only all Beedrill were like yours...

That is one thing I've noticed of most Beedrill:

I don't know why, if it is because everyone understimates it too much, or maybe it has just the right stats for the right few situations... But most Beedrill I've used and seen used have somehow put up surprisingly good fights, with a tendency of hanging on low health and doing a pretty decent attacking job.

And of course, it is this what makes me think of them like Kamina; as hot-blooded determinators.

I'd perhaps like Butterfree better if it had Venomoth's design instead. I preffer Caterpie as a line, and like butterflies, but I just hate Butterfree's design. (Not to mention they very likely had them switched by accident)
But even then, my experiences with Beedrill just make it win for me.

Butterfree because it's got psychic moves, looks better and because of the anime, Ash's Butterfree is awesome.

I have to go with Butterfree for overall cuteness factor and the combination of sleep/poison/paralysis it can do, even though Beedrill is the original bad ass!!

Beedrill. looks badass and was pretty nice in Firered for me. Although, with quiver dance, butterfree is miles above it in battling.
