Thread: Blastoise vs Feraligatr

Gold was my first game and Totodile was the first starter I ever picked, so I'm biased to pick Feraligatr. XP

If you're talking thematically, Hydro CANNON was pretty obviously made with Blastoise in mind (and I suspect so were Frenzy Plant and Blast Burn for Venusaur and Charizard respectively).

If you're talking statistically, Feraligatr's special attack stat (which Hydro Cannon abuses) is actually pretty low at base 79. Blastoise has a much higher special attack stat at 85, thus allowing him to abuse Hydro Cannon better than 'Gatr. Simply put, Blastoise has more power for Hydro Cannon than Feraligatr. Now, if we were talking about Waterfall...

For good measure though, Empoleon and Daikenki are the best abusers of Hydro Cannon in the game due to having the highest Special Attack stats of all Water Starters (Empoleon especially, but Daikenki has better base speed... not that any halfway decent trainer would use Hydro Cannon but still...)

Which do you prefer? Feraligatr. Much better design.

Who's more useful? feraligatr has swords dance + aqua jet. He also has sheer force which is a great ability. Blastoise is UU only because of rapid spin.

I prefer feraligatr. I prefer offensive mons in general.

I have nothing against Blastoise, but Feraligatr is one of my favourite water types so he easily takes this.

As much as I both of these starters, my vote goes to Feraligatr because if GF allowed us to have female starters w/ DW abilites, then Dragon Dance + Sheer Force = competition with Gyarados for the spot. Plus it's a crocodilian, who are the more badarse reptiles.

Blastoise was an incredible spinner in Gen 4 UU whilst Feraligatr has never truly shone (Though admittedly has probably been more consistent over the generations).

Feraligatr has always really annoyed me because for some bizarre reason the designers thought it'd be better to not put a vowel between the t and the r. I hate that. I also think the look of it is pretty crappy. (Just my humble opinion).

Blastoise FTW. Best fully evolved starter in the history of Pokemon.

I like Blastoise more. If it was first stage then Totodile would be the winner for me, but final stage is Blastoise. Feraligator just never appealed to me

The reason was the character limit. Feraligator is eleven characters long, but the game only has space for ten, so they had to remove a letter. It wasn't just a stylistic choice. The same thing happened to Victreebel.

Blastoise is always going to win it out for me. He looks better, in my opinion. My first starter was a Squirtle on Blue version and I raised him to be a level 100 Blastoise.

Which do you prefer? Feraligatr because of its design, stats and movepool.
Who is more useful? Feraligatr in my opinion. I really like Feraligatr's movepool a lot more than Blastoise's and it has access to Dragon Dance.
Who would win in a battle? Again it would be Feraligatr. Mostly because of Dragon Dance.
