I actually know how my story will end too and I have a general idea of things that will happen. In fact, I even have created two possible paths for the endgame with one path setting up my story for a sequel. The plot would be vastly different from the original story and characters as well though the events of the first story would certainly lead up to events of the sequel.

I'm not sure whether a sequel does more good or harm, though.

@Tsutarja; it all depends on how your fic develops, when it finally comes time for it to end you'll be able to know what you want to do, whether to keep going or to leave it at that.

i prefer to steer away from sequels as much as possible. i feel like they probably won't be as good as the original; i never liked novels that had sequels to them anyway.

I believe that a sequel is important when it comes to a series, sometimes there's just too many things that could be used for th eplot that it isn't enough with just one.

That's why I asked because I'm aware that many people don't really support the idea of sequels. xD

yeah, lol. i prefer to keep my stories at a "you guess what happens next" scenario, where the conclusion doesn't really tie all ends together, but yet there will be no sequel. i'm a fan of stories like that. :P

A good sequel can be used as a way to explain certain things which was mentioned or happened in a prequel. For example, the first, the second and the third Harry Potter books. In the first one, two things were mentioned:
1st: In the first book, Sirius black was mentioned giving Hagrid his flying motorcycle in order for Hagrid to reach the recently orphaned Harry's new home. Until the third book, we didn't know who he was, but he eventually became a major plot point in the third book.
2nd: Also in the first book, we were told that Hagrid once owned a wand but it broke into two pieces somehow, but we were given hints to its whereabouts. In the second book, we learned why it happened, and the reason it happened eventually became a major plot point.

It depends entirely on how the sequel is handled. Everyone loves a good story, but they also hate very bad sequels.

I don't really mind endings like that but I'm more of a person that likes to tie things up together xD plus not all sequels are bad as long as they're done right my fic Second Year Rhapsody is a sequel and considering what I have planned, most of the plot that was created in Dragon's Roar takes place there, Dragon's Roar was basically an introduction.

if i ever do make a sequel to the devil's gift, i think it may as well be shorter than the one i have now, with new characters, but still containing one major question that i left unanswered in the first one. I would mainly focus on that plot point, and some how have a circle of old and new characters surrounding it and mix it all together and hopefully make a good concoction. i just don't know if it'd work and if people would actually like it xD.

I've come to realize that a writer can't work on the assumption that people won't like it, if you really want to write the story then write it and just wait to see what happens

Honestly, I know how Chaos Theory will end, and really, I want to reach the end, because once I do, I'll know my mission of sharing the stories of my characters was complete.
