I want to say so many angry things to you out of jealousy, but all I am really thinking is "Why is he signing books when he has two more he needs to be writing!!!!"

I won't read Game of Thrones because what I've heard suggests it's dark and tragic, and I'm so over dark and tragic. I've had enough of that with The Wheel of Time, A Crown of Stars, and The Witches of Eileanan series. Basically, everyone makes stupid decisions that makes things worse, every other person looses a limb, your favorite character dies, and if the books ends happily, don't worry, the next book will fuck it up again worse then before.

I mean, it's okay for like, a book or two, but by the time I close the third thousand-page book, I'm like, "Why am I torturing myself by reading this? Even when the great evil is overthrown my favorite character will still be dead, the main character is still an overpowered, stupid asshole, and no one will be able to walk or hold a sword, because they'll be amputees."

A lot of people love that stuff, but I'm not one of them. If I can't see the light of day peaking through after a while, then I begin to lose interest.

I personally don't get bogged down with the tragic moments that much, except for one obvious event that most readers will know of and understand. I become too invested in the plots that I generally end up ignoring some of the grimmer stuff and focus on the more exciting aspects. And really the series is not that grim. They always go on about characters dying, but not that many significant people actually die in the books. The books are not over yet so we don't know what will happen at the end, only George and the producers of the show know, so maybe wait until the last book is released and then give them a go and see what you think?

Man, Flaze! You nearly made me nervous there, saying the awards was just around the corner! Good thing that wasn't true (phew).

As for the Game of Thrones, I don't have that much interest in them to be honest. Some things catch my interest, others don't. That's how I work.

Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series is my ideal for a how a series should be: smart, witty, fun, hilarious, interesting, psychological, and happy endings all around!

Yeah, Robert Jordan lollygagged around and look what happened to The Wheel of Time. He keeled over from cancer or pneumonia or something and Brandon Sanderson had to finish it for him with his notes.

Sigh. Robert Jordan, rest in peace, my good man, rest in peace.

Regarding the banner: The Roserade line would be good.

And about tragic stories: I don't really mind them as long as the story itself is good and engaging. One tragic event after another can get boring very quickly, and more often than not, it just gets the reader accustomed to them, as opposed to shocked like the writer presumably intended.

That's true, but most people live in the northern hemisphere. xP

I'm not saying to just ignore people who live down south completely, I'm just suggesting what would be most practical and would work for the most people.
