Are there any writing based issues or topics that people would like to see addressed in the next Writer's Academy lesson? We are looking for ideas for the next one and are wondering what the general writers are interested in reading about/getting advice.

I have trouble with conveying emotion, but that's probably too specific.

    Dialogue, perhaps? Plot flow? Proofreading?

    Just some random ideas.

I'd hire myself out as a proofreader if I thought that I'd actually get any business. I'm having enough trouble getting business in the real world And now my dad is setting me up to talk to a recruiter for the Air Force Reserves...is it any wonder he thinks I'm not ready to move out? He does everything for me! I don't even want to go into the Air Force, even if it is just the reserves! Everything's just so overwhelming...I'm getting advice from all around me and it's all good advice so I don't know how to tell people I'm getting overwhelmed by it. I've got no idea how to start going through my room and packing up nearly 23 years worth of stuff when I realize that I have a really hard time getting rid of things even when I know I don't need them. I barely even know what I need to do to move out, and my parents are thinking that I'm lazy because I'm not working even though I offer again and again to help them around the house when I'm not applying for jobs but then they ask why I'm bothering to look for a job down here in California if I want to move to Washington but I'm looking for online work but I can't find anything and I'm starting to feel really useless and that makes me even less motivated to try and clean out my room...I just don't know what to do anymore.

Personally I think the Air Force would be pretty cool, but you're not me.

It sounds like you've been given every possible bit of advice under the sun, so I won't give you any more. I hope things get better!

Where in Washington are you looking to move? I only ask because that's where I'm from :P

Moving out is hard . . . I'm actually doing it myself right now (I should be packing, not reading fanfiction)! I've got eighteen years of stuff to go through too, but I'm basically leaving it all behind. All I need are my games, DVDs and a few books (plus clothes and all that stuff of course) and beyond that I'm pretty much set. I'll be living in a res hall from Saturday onwards . . . so good luck to us both! XD

@AceTrainer14; from what I can tell there are a ton of stories getting posted recently that are lacking in the very basic writing skills, that is in grammar, punctuation (especially around dialogue) and tense issues. You know, the stuff you should have down before you even start worrying about plot and character and all that stuff. That might be too much talk about all of that in one go, though.

I must agree with you there Noir, and I think we can difficult get a few months of lessons out of those :P Same with Aether's suggestion, we can use most of these and construct a few out of them. I will take your ideas to the other mods and we will pick the one that we want to do first. If anyone however is an expert on tense or proofreading or something, let us know if you want to do a lesson

I would love to help with a writing basics lesson--in addition to the basics of good writing, would it be too much to ask for a basics of description, the basics of a good story, etc.

I could help out with that sort of thing too. My English teachers always told me I had excellent grammar and such. :)

When we figure out what the topics are, I wouldn't mind doing one. A would also be interested in writing Aether X's 'conveying emotion' suggestion.
