What do you call a division of a story that is larger than a chapter, and indeed contains several chapters, but not the entire story? I've been thinking it may be called section, but I don't really like that word.

EDIT: I've been thinking the word I'm looking for might be division.

    Are you referring to 'Arcs'?

An 'Arc' is basically a section of the story composed of several chapters that tell a selected part of the story.

    Such as:

Arc 1: Main Character started their journey. (5-8 Chapters)
Arc 2: Journey is interrupted by the Villains. (5-7 Chapters)
Arc 3: Hunting for the Admins. (10-13 Chapters)
Arc 4: Long battle against the leader. (3-5 Chapters)
Arc 5: Returning to journey. (10-15 Chapters)
Arc 6: Return of villains and their defeat. (3-7 Chapters)
Arc 7: Villains finally thwarted, Main character returns to journey, finishes his journey and becomes Champion. (10-18 Chapters)
Arc 8: Main Character's life as a Champion. (10-13 Chapters)

That's basically what 'Arcs' are; Chapters that share a single main plot line. Hope I helped.

You might be thinking of "volume".

Though arcs is another probable one, as Kyuujux said.

Arcs and volumes are practically the same thing since they both collect chapters, however a volume doesn't collect a specific set of chapters like an arc would since a volume can even have two arcs in it.

But yeah an arc is basically a compilation of chapters that deal with a certain story line or that center around a specific event.

Some works (especially in fantasy) will refer to them as books, although books can also be split into volumes)

As well as the ones mentioned above, the word Part can be used also.
