Thread: Voice actors?

Okay, so I've been re-reading through Stellar Gale's Pokémon Academy fic, and I actually started reading different characters' dialogue in the voices of certain voice actors.

Namely, I started reading Reggie's dialogue in Vic Mignogna's (Edward Elric, et al) voice, Darren's in Christopher Sabat's (Piccolo, Roronoa Zoro, et al) voice, and Valerie's in Monica Rial's (Bulma, et al) voice.

This has actually been something that I've been thinking about lately, so I'd just like to throw it out there and ask if you guys do the same. Also, do you think of specific voices for your characters?

For me, I hear all of Ash's thoughts and speech in Like No One Ever Was in Aaron Dismuke's regular speaking voice. (He played Alphonse in the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, and Yo Takami in Deadman Wonderland.)

Giovanni, on the other hand, is definitely still Ted Lewis in my mind.

In Plasma's Folly, I imagine Destiny being voiced by Caitlin Glass, Colby by Brittney Karbowski, Dragon by Todd Haberkorn, and Ghetsis by Kent Williams. I have specific voices in mind for the other characters, but I can't really think of any voice actors to relate them to. The Team Plasma grunt in the English dub of the Black 2 and White 2 animated trailer sounds strikingly similar to how I've always imagined Lynn's voice, though.

The ideal voice cast for my RP characters would be thus:

• Colin Sonan: Daniel Radcliffe or Ewan McGregor
• Joanie Aimes: Lillias White
• Collie Calloway: Faith Hill
• Annie Jameson: Alexa Vega
• Bella Austin: Amanda Seyfried
• Jim Gai: Mel Brooks
• Wyatt Sonan: Christopher Lee
• Icira Witherflame: Kate Mulgrew
• Audrey II the Bellsprout: Jerome Collins
• ΣΒΑΧ the Porygon-Z: Microsoft Mike

Not OCs, but I just imagine Ash and the company voiced by the 4Kids actors (those are just the voices that I first hear in my head). I also imagine Hilda/White and Leaf voiced by Tress Macneil.

I'd like to make an amendment to my previous post. A better voice for Joanie would be Mary J. Blige.

I found that I tend to assign voices to characters in my own works, but rarely in other people's writing.

Yeah, I never thought of "assigning" voices to characters in work besides my own. :o

But there's only one instance where I've even done that in my own work at all anyway. I always thought that the English voice of Serenity in Yu-Gi-Oh would fit Faline perfectly. Faline is from my Fire Emblem fic.

Although, ever since I saw the Keldeo movie, I've thought Vic Mignogna would make a perfect adult Link in Zelda. :3

Even the narrator?

I myself don't think voice actors for my characters, I think of genuine actors as I tend to enjoy live action more than animation these days. I had a list of who I'd have as the main characters in my Star Trek fic but it's been lost during a forum transition in another community I go to.

Personally, I always hear Jim Dale as the narrator.

....as a budding voice actor myself, I take offense at this remark. Voice actors are genuine actors.

In my BW fic:

Oshawott/Dewott: Collen Clinkenbeard (Oshawott has her kid Gohan voice while Dewott gets her Luffy voice)
Pidove: Greg Aryes (less raspy though)
Purrloin: Monica Rial (like Hello Kitty only naughty)

I think of actors to play my characters, too. For my favorite character, Ellie Kades, I see her as Annasophia Robb, but the voice I hear for her is Melody from The Little Mermaid II (Who was voiced by Tara Strong)

For some reason, I always imagine N to be voiced by Chris Colfer.

Lyle: Nancy Cartwright (a little gender bender voice is good for cute Pokemon)
Muna: Kath Soucie
