    I do the same, but the reason I do has less to do with personal preference and more to do with the fact I can't understand stuff that is badly written, as English is not my first language.

    This, of course, is not an excuse for me to go around the place writing very badly, and I actually put a lot of effort into my grammar and spelling, so I end up thinking someone who doesn't do the minimum effort at English with it being their first language is an insult to my own efforts (which means, I won't read the story).

    Put it this way: you could have the most incredible story ever - brilliant plots, interesting characters, all over amazing - but if the grammar's bad, I probably won't be reading past the first couple of paragraphs. Therefore, I won't know about your brilliant things as the grammar just turns me off immediately and makes me not want to read it.
