“Scyther, Go! Block those Poochyena from getting to that man, but don’t hurt them unless they attack you!”

Evan watched the Mantis Pokémon zip down the slope, seeming to fly with its insectoid wings. Planting itself in front of the lead Poochyena, he crossed his scythe-tipped arms and blurred into motion, darting back and forth in a line. Ethereal images of the Pokémon appeared as it moved, creating a veritable wall of illusions of itself.

“Great job on the Double Team, good idea!” Evan called. “Leo, Kyle, let’s see if we can’t drive them off without injuring them too much!”

"Magneton," Kyle ordered. "Do what Evan said. Drive them back."

Magneton, hearing the orders, then charged down the slope, its three Magnemite chattering with electricity. After zooming down the slope and coming to a rest in a defensible location, it gathered energy around it. In a flash, there was a second Magneton in front of the real one. It had used Substitute.

Good work, I thought. Perhaps this battle may go in our favor.

“Great job on the Double Team, good idea!” Evan called. “Leo, Kyle, let’s see if we can’t drive them off without injuring them too much!”

"We'll see!" I muttered. I agreed with him, but I wasn't going to let my guard down. These are wild Pokemon and this type of Pokemon is known to be territorial. Being in its home meant we had to be extra careful. I wasn't too worried about hurting them, I was worried about what they would do to us to defend their hoe. This was going to be a challenge, but nothing we couldn't handle. We had been in tougher situations before.

"Shadow, move foward a bit. Keep your eyes on it and power up with Nasty Plot. I'll let them make the first move before we attack. See if we can get out of this peacefully." I knew that wasn't going to happen, but there was no harm in hoping. Those Poochyena didn't look like they wanted to reason, at least not at the moment. If we could save that man and fend them off without doing much damage to their home, I'd be happy.

Evan winced in sympathetic pain as the two Poochyena attacked his partner, unerringly striking their target through the waves of duplicate images. Cracked flakes of carapace sprayed from the Poochyena that sunk its fangs into his leg.

“Scyther!” he cried. “Hang in there, buddy, I’m coming!”

Evan charged forward down the grassy slope, around the trunk of a tree on the hill, and skidded to a stop once he reached flat ground again. He realized that he wasn’t going to make it to his friend before the Poochyena tore into him again. “Guys, this isn’t working! They’re not going to flee unless they’re actually scared of us. Scyther, when you get the chance, X-Scissor at ten o’clock!”

OOC: Evan runs forward to F8 and draws a Potion from his pack.

Shadow powered up with Nasty Plot, upping his special attack. With that, moves like Ember and Flamethrower would do some major damage. Shadow counldn't dodge the incoming Mud-Slap attack from the Poochyena. The attack wasn't very strong, but it sure did bring its after effect. With Shadow's accuracy down, he was going to have to be more precise with his attacks.

"Don't worry Shadow, I got your back." I called out, walking towards him. "As soon as you get a lock on, hit it with Flamethrower. Try to drive them back."

Knowing that the battle was upon us, Kyle needed to take inventory of their surroundings. The most obvious thing was the wounded man that they were defending. Seeing an opportunity to discover what happened in the first place to make the pack so angry. The man was the first person here, so he probably knew.

Kyle walked a little bit of the ways to the man before stopping. It could be dangerous to attract too much attention to himself. He didn't know if Poocheyna could jump, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Scyther spared a brief glance at his trainer. He couldn’t stand much more of these attacks, and cheered when he saw Evan holding a Potion and running towards him. Confident that his partner would get to him in time, he crossed his scythe-like claws before him and spread his wings. They began to let out an ominous buzz, and he sidestepped another lunge from the Poochyena in front of him.

He let out a screech that was as much felt as heard, both from frustration and the psychological effect it had on his opponents. Leaping forward quickly, he slashed his claws at the small Pokémon before him, trying to injure it enough that it was taken out of the fight.
