    BP#1 (Vs. Sigilyph Post 1)

    OOC: Hi I be your new ranger Jess. I be actually doing something. Also stealing Bee's layout since I'm too lazy to c/p my own back atm.

    I saw Leo and his trainer in the distance; a sudden flash telling me that there was a battle going on. It didn’t matter much to me if I entered during a battle or in between them, as long as I didn’t end up a target. A small platform sat near the battlefield; the perfect place to land and meet up with Leo to inform him of the situation. I directed my Dragonite, Tear, to speed towards the platform to waste as little time as possible; I braced myself, my hat, and the note for Leo in preparation for the speed.

    We landed without much incident, surprisingly; Sigilyph was stunned long enough for us to make it through under it to the platform. Tear landed, and I hopped off to pass the note labeled “URGENT” to Leo, who flew off on his Hydreigon.

    I turned to Leo’s trainer; a Sandra Blake according to the notes I got on the way. I was supposed to sub in for Leo while he was off doing whatever, but I had a feeling that whatever errand he was running, it would last a lot longer than a single run through the park.

    “Sorry about that. They demanded Leo for… something. I don’t know what. But anyways; I’m Siless and I will be accompanying you on the remainder of your run through the pa-“

    A second flash distracted me as Sigilyph’s wings started cackling with electricity. I hadn’t seen exactly what happened before, but Sigilyph seemed to be attempting to... show off? I recognized the attack as a Thunder Wave, but the move didn’t normally manifest itself on wild Sigilyph. I realized that it must have been the cause of the first flash I saw.

    “Perhaps I should wait until after the battle for introductions?”

    I hadn’t noticed the switch in Ranger until I heard an unfamiliar male voice say, “Sorry about that. They demanded Leo for… something. I don’t know what. But anyways; I’m Siless and I will be accompanying you on the remainder of your run through the pa-“ The man was cut off by a brief flare of crackling yellow electricity sizzling along Sigilyph’s wings; apparently, this particular specimen was capable of using Thunder Wave as well. It wouldn’t do for Seagem to become Paralyzed as her opponent had; Sigilyph, being part Psychic, would be able to levitate itself if its wings should become unresponsive, but Seagem had no such power. If her wings locked up, she’d plummet from the air and possibly have a very bad meeting with a solid surface somewhere beneath her.

    “Seagem, show Sigilyph your Safeguard move and then dazzle it with some of that Hidden Power of yours!” I called to the cream-colored beast. She trilled merrily, what with Safeguard being one of her favorite moves to perform. Flying circles around her infatuated foe, Seagem focused draconic energy in her body and let it drip from her claws, which took on a lime-green glow. As she flew, the drops of bright teal energy wove themselves into a shield that ensnared the Dragon. Soon she was encased in a bubble that was completely clear for the most part, save the faint splash of green-blue color that was visible when looking at the Pokemon from an angle.

    With a Safeguard in place, Seagem would be protected from status moves such as the Thunder Wave Sigilyph was flaunting. Not having to worry about being crippled by ailments like Paralysis, Seagem could offer more concentration to the preparation and execution of her next move. Hidden Power tapped into the dormant strength of a Pokemon, a part of its being that specialized in a Type other than those it was born with. In Seagem’s case, her Hidden Power was aligned with Rock, a Type she was ironically weak to. Because of her Hidden Power alignment, she was as efficient at using Rock-Type attacks as she was Flying or Dragon ones, and it made the Hidden Power attack itself Rock-Type as well. Thus the very nature of the attack made itself stronger, almost as if the user were using a move sharing their native Type. It wasn’t as useful as using actual Type-boosted moves, but in cases like this, I wasn’t looking to knock the other Pokemon out anyways, only weaken it enough for capture.

    Seagem, who always cared more about how her moves looked as opposed to their strength or effectiveness, flew a few feet from Sigilyph so he would get a good view of what she was doing. She held her arms out, the palms of her paws facing the sky and her claws curled slightly. She closed her eyes and bowed her head slightly, entering a Zen-like state of awareness as she tapped into the Hidden Power dwelling within her powerful body. As she called upon that strength, a soft breeze began to circulate around her; a physical effect of her power on her surroundings. As the Hidden Power was woken fully, the wind around Seagem grew more powerful until it was like a miniature cyclone whipping around her.

    Then the Dragonite’s head snapped up and her eyes flew open, revealing a brilliant amber glow that was coming from them. At the same instant that her eyes opened, a coating of bright amber energy cascaded from Seagem’s shoulders to the very tips of her claws. The energy then flowed down her arms and gathered around her paws, which she abruptly clapped together. The two separate spheres combined into one roughly the size of a beach ball, but it broke into a dozen small orbs when Seagem sharply drew her paws apart. With a downward sweep of her arms, Seagem sent the twelve glittering amber spheres flying towards Sigilyph, a pleased coo bubbling from her throat.

    As Seagem’s protective barrier formed, Sigilyph launched its Thunder Wave; the Safeguard attack blocked the electrical currents, dispersing them through the shield until there was no more. The Nazca line-esque Pokémon forced itself to hover with its mental power to store up enough physical energy to allow movement through the paralysis. It occurred to me that Sigilyph was Attracted as well, though it hadn’t appeared to mess up its fighting yet; perhaps it was too focused with the difficulty of its own flight at the moment.

    Seagem, however, had no such difficulties, calling a great wind as it tapped into its own deepest energy reserves. Two orbs, formed into one, and then a full twelve, readied themselves around the Dragon-Type Pokémon, giving it powerful ammunition; a swipe from the Dragonite launched the orbs at the Sigilyph. The Psychic-Type reactively curled up to lower the chance of being hit, but several orbs still struck its wings.

    Once the attack finished, the Sigilyph relaxed its wings once more; it didn’t seem aware that bright yellow orbs were forming on its wings…

    When Seagem unleashed her Hidden Power, Sigilyph curled himself into a loose ball to try and avoid the attack. Most of them still hit the ancient Pokemon, though, dealing what seemed like a fair amount of damage. After the attack ended, Sigilyph uncurled himself and simply hovered in place. I couldn’t understand what he was doing at first, but then I noticed shimmering saffron sphere forming on his wings. I frowned a little at that, not knowing exactly what was going on. Was Sigilyph’s paralysis physically manifesting itself as it took hold? Was he preparing to use some sort of attack?

    “Mirror Move, a Hidden Power of his own…not another Thunder Wave, that’s not what it looks like. Charge Beam, or maybe the beginning of a Sky Attack? Possibly some manner of Hypnosis, but that wouldn’t be effective since Seagem has her Safeguard in place. Gravity, maybe…? Gah, there’s no way to know!” Somewhat irritated, I glared at Sigilyph and pondered what to do. Seagem wasn’t the kind of Pokemon who appreciated playing safe and being cautious; she only wanted to use moves that could show off how glamorous she was. Well, I would just have to improvise and take advantage of her Sassy personality. Because she loved to show off, she was pretty good at performing complicated combos, as it gave her the opportunity to flaunt her abilities. I smiled a little, though not in humor; as much as I trusted in what Seagem was capable of, I was a little anxious over what I was about to ask of her.

    “Seagem, I’ve got a challenge for ya!” I called to her. She glanced over at me and did a little spin, trilling loudly to show she was more than ready and willing. Of course she would, seeing as a “challenge” would only give her more chances to keep everyone’s attention firmly on herself. “Okay, here it is! Start with a Rain Dance, then use Twister to whip up a funnel of water and wind around Sigilyph! Once you’ve done that, use Ice Punch, but don’t hit Sigilyph with it! I want you to freeze the Twister around him instead, and after that, use a Dragon Dance to boost your speed and attack!”

    Seagem gave a thrilled cry, obviously eager to try out the combo I’d given her. Fluttering her wings, she rose several yards into the air before performing a few aerial flips and rolls, weaving left and right as she began to let out a haunting yet beautiful call. As she performed her Rain Dance, I played out in my mind how the rest of the combo would go.

    After calling upon her ability to alter the weather (a trait given to her from her previous form of Dragonair), Seagem would cause the clouds above to rapidly darken and expand, then release a deluge that would last several minutes. The downpour would be warm and smell slightly odd; not unpleasant, but the slightly musky odor of a Dragon in full combat-mode. As the rain came down, Seagem would perform a little pirouette, throwing rain off her wings with a flick.

    With her wings outstretched, Seagem would then give a mighty heave and direct a blast of rushing air towards Sigilyph. She would pump her wings over and over, and with every beat she would release a little bit of Draconic energy with the wind she was whipping up. This energy would cause the wind to bend and collide with other currents, causing a Twister to erupt around Sigilyph. Driving rain and powerful winds would buffet the Pokemon, keeping him confused and struggling against the forces of Nature raging around him.

    With her foe thus distracted, Seagem would then cock back one of her arms, forcing the heat out of the air around her paw as she clenched it into a fist. A dome of clear ice would encase her curled paw, and with a cry the Dragonite would snap her arm forward. The freezing temperature of the ice around her paw would quickly cause the rain to freeze, and this would result in a sheet of outward-spreading rime; when it reached the Twister that Sigilyph was engulfed in, the snapping winds would cause the ice to spread faster, as the rain would already be cold from the wind sucking the heat from it. Sigilyph would momentarily become entombed in a case of ice, and though it wouldn’t be touching him, it would be cold enough within to affect him to a considerable degree.

    That done, Seagem would then land on the platform and raise her arms, throwing back her head and letting out a primal howl. Her wings would spread taut and she’d sway back and forth, her tail smacking against the ground to create a crude but rhythmic beat. A strange sort of power would emanate from her, taking the form of reddish-blue clouds snaking around her bulky yet graceful form as she stomped and roared. As the clouds of energy were absorbed back into her body, Seagem would give a final, somewhat nerve-wracking shriek, then bolt into the air again.

    If she could pull it off like I envisioned, Seagem would gain a considerable advantage over Sigilyph. The focus here wasn’t about doing damage, but giving Seagem a chance to interrupt whatever Sigilyph may be planning, if he was indeed up to something. Her Dragon Dance, once she pulled it off, would give her more speed, the better to avoid future attacks Sigilyph got the chance to launch. On top of that, it only helped fuel Seagem’s ego, and the more fuel she had, the stronger she ran.

    BP#3 (Vs. Sigilyph Post 3)

    The orbs accompanying Sigilyph launched themselves at Seagem with little to no aiming, I assumed due to the Paralysis; if any part of the Hidden Power attack hit, Seagem didn’t seem to respond to it. Two more orbs started forming instantly as Sigilyph started to regain its maneuverability, but it seemed to be too late.

    A storm was brewing. I knew that if a trainer utilized weather this late in a battle, it was usually to accompany a new Pokémon, counter a new Weather condition, or to force the current battle to be so hilariously one-sided that there is almost no threat to the user for the remainder of the battle. I had to assume it was the last choice, as neither Dragonite nor Sigilyph changed the weather prior, and they had exchanged blows a few times prior (unsuccessfully in Sigilyph’s case), so it wasn’t like the battle had just started, even though I had only gotten there maybe a minute prior as the battle was starting.

    One flap of Seagem’s wings trapped her Psychic-type opponent in a vortex of wind, and continuous flapping intensified the vortex to match the strength of the storm. The Dragonite stopped flapping to encase her fist in a cold wind; the Twister attack, however, remained, buffeting the Sigilyph. It didn’t have much of a chance of escape, though it held onto the yellow orbs it created after its first Hidden Power attack.

    Seagem launched her cold-covered fist into the vortex; the winds froze as they spiraled, entombing the Sigilyph in a hollow whirlwind of ice. The attack never hit Sigilyph directly, though the cold shook it up quite a bit. Sigilyph was willing to stand up against all odds, however; it launched its second Hidden Power into the vortex wall, shattering it, and sending shards of ice into both combatants. Sigilyph may have been badly beaten and on its last wings, but it seemed the battle was far from over.

    Sigilyph managed to interrupt Seagem’s combo by releasing what was indeed a Hidden Power, most likely one with an Electric typing. When he released his attack, it shattered the ice sphere that had formed around him and sent shards digging into Seagem’s scales. Granted, she had some pretty tough scales that could easily shrug off most attacks, but with both of her types being weak to Ice, the stinging shards were very uncomfortable and enough to make her reel back with a hiss of pain.

    Sigilyph definitely came out of it worse off than Seagem, though. The bulky Dragonite only had a few angry red scratches across her sides and belly to mark where she’d been hit by the shards; Sigilyph was beginning to droop considerably after Seagem’s assault, despite her attacks being indirect. I could tell by the way she was holding herself that Seagem was both smugly satisfied with Sigilyph’s condition and vastly agitated that she’d been cut off in the first place. Knowing how badly the Sassy Pokemon hated to have her combos broken, I had to act quickly before she went into a raging tantrum. Not only might she hurt herself, she might damage the area around us and knock out Sigilyph in the process.

    “Seagem, I know how much you dislike being interrupted during a combo, so show off what your Dragon Rage attack looks like! And once you’ve done that, use the rain to whip up a Waterfall!” I called. Seagem let out a shriek, her cries ringing out and making it sound like she was trying to out-scream the raging winds. The Dragon threw her head back, her cry increasing in volume and pitch until she was making a sound like a crazed demon. Bright blue energy began to radiate from her body, more and more of it until waves of it were pouring from her. It was so intense that she was soon hidden from view; the only part of her still visible was eyes, two burning crimson coals burning from within the electric-blue vortex around the Dragon.

    And quite suddenly Seagem’s harsh screaming was silenced as she disgorged a stream of brilliant cyan flames straight at Sigilyph. Despite the ferocity with which the attack was initially released, the Dragon Rage wasn’t technically real fire. It was more or less Draconic energy bolstered by intense heat, so the minute the attack was released, the pouring rain caused most of the heat to dissipate. Hot steam filled the air, something else I’d been counting on; being unable to properly see her foe meant Seagem’s attack was more likely to be a glancing blow instead of a direct one, and the same was true for the Waterfall attack that would follow.

    That was the true gem, no pun intended, in this little combo I had Seagem attempting. Waterfall was normally a move that could only be performed near a suitably large body of water, but in a deluge like this, all Seagem needed was a mega-sized Twister to suck the water up and the release it in a huge wave. Basically, she would fly above her foe (in this case Sigilyph) and use a massive Twister, one easily five times the size of the one she used to trap Sigilyph with. The suction of the wind would draw in a great deal of rain, basically filling the air funnel with water. Once a good amount had built up, Seagem would allow the Twister to peter out; with nothing to hold the mass of rain in place, it would fall in a single, giant sheet. Combined with the height it would be coming from, the liquid would strike with enough force to rival a small hurricane. It was nowhere near as powerful when used with an actual body of water such as a lake, but it was a lot stronger than most people would give it credit.

    OOC:Oops, forgot about putting that in. Almost there!

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    With Sandra’s orders to Seagem, I had no difficulty knowing exactly what was happening in the battlefield; if I was just watching the battle, however, I would have lost nearly everything after the initial attack.
    All I could see was blue ‘flames’ emerging from Seagem after an attempt by Sandra to get her to “cool down”. Afterwards, the battle was engulfed in a steamy cloud; I was sure Sigilyph was taking more damage from the heated water vapors than it did the Rage itself, but the only sign that I saw it was still in the battle was a similar blue flame emerging from the cloud. A cry told me it hit, but the near-immediate response of a thunderous roar of water told me it was only a glancing blow. Not too many Pokémon could withstand a Super-Effective attack without even flinching, and while I had no doubt a Dragonite could easily do so, it was a different story when its own draconic energies were reversed upon it.
    I expected the steam to clear up quickly, with the rush of the preparatory Twister in the Waterfall attack and the general high altitude of the battlefield meaning we’re caught in near-constant winds, but it seemed like the steam cloud was here to stay for a while.
    I have to admit I was surprised when I noticed Seagem’s attack get bounced back at her. The only clue I got was the bright glow of the Dragon Rage arching towards Sigilyph, then rebounding back towards Seagem as if in reverse. She gave a cry, sounding more annoyed than hurt, and a moment later I heard the sound of her performing her signature Waterfall attack. I smiled a bit, knowing that even though she’d probably taken a decent amount of damage from Sigilyph’s Mirror Coat, she’d dealt out far more and was still much better off than Sigilyph was.
    The steam from Seagem’s Dragon Rage cleared a bit, not by a very large margin but enough for me to see that Sigilyph was definitely on his last wings, so to speak. It was coming down to the finale, and even though this battle had been shorter than my previous one with Aero, I knew that Sigil could very well prove almost as difficult to catch. He probably know how to rest and, being a Psychic Pokemon, no doubt had plenty of tricks he could pull to make things harder. Not only that, I had to carefully reel in Seagem’s power so as not to risk her knocking Sigil out. Even though the smartest thing to do would have been to recall her and send out Databyte, in the long run that would only make Seagem irritated and unhappy with me. She would think I was tired of her showing off or that I wanted to let Databyte have all the glory at the end of the battle; it had happened in the past and when she got in those moods, Seagem was practically impossible to be around.
    “Seagem, it’s time to wrap this up!” I called out, having to shout to be heard over the pounding rain. I heard her give a trill in response and continued. “I want you to hit Sigil with a SonicBoom, and throw in a little heat on the side!”
    Seagem once again trilled to acknowledge her commands, and a moment later I saw her bulky frame shoot straight up in a cream-colored blur. She then abruptly angled off to the left and was soon lost from sight. Seagem didn’t actually know SonicBoom, but she could move faster enough to create shockwaves that did pretty much the same thing. Even though she had vanished from sight I wasn’t worried, because within a minute she came back into view from the right. But she was gone again in the blink of an eye, and this time she appeared in about forty seconds. Using the natural speed granted to her kind, she was making a circuit around the whole of Outer Heaven, building up more and more momentum with every passing second.
    And then, as she was passing Sigil on one trip, Seagem did two things almost at the same time. First, she came to an abrupt halt; the vacuum of air that had formed behind her collapsed and sent a shockwave radiating out from her. At the same time she was stopping, she pulled an arm back and curled her paw into a fist. As soon as she came to a stop a small inferno erupted around her scaled appendage, which she then punched forward a split second before the shockwave blew out from around her. The flames from her fist shot forward but were extinguished immediately by the passing shockwave, but that was the whole point. I didn’t want Sigil injured by a real Fire Punch, but even though the flames of it were put out, the shockwave still carried a blast of super-hot air with it from the blaze itself. The hot air was mainly to do a small bit of additional damage while the shockwave did the majority, but there was also a small chance that the ultra-heated air might inflict a minor burn, which would make Sigil easier to capture in the long run.
    I pulled a Hyper Ball from my pocket as I watched Seagem perform what would likely be her final moves of the battle, ready to capture it whether her attempts at weakening Sigil a bit more were successful or not. Even if he somehow avoided the attacks or wasn’t affected by them, he was still dragging pretty badly and probably wouldn’t be too hard to capture.
    OOC: You can bunny me chucking the Hyper Ball, it’s too awkward for me to do it here.
    BP#5 (Vs. Sigilyph Post 5)
    I knew Dragonite never learned Sonicboom as such, but it's not like I wasn't one to improvise moves myself; an impromptu Rock Slide attack using my Gardevoir's Psychic has saved us the battle more than enough times.
    Seagem circled her exhausted opponent many times, building speed with each revolution. About the time she became a blur to the human eye, she halted immediately, shaking the Sigilyph in the resulting shockwave. Before the shockwave had halted, Seagem Fire Punched it to transfer some heat to the improvised sound attack; the combination was completely indirect and didn't use the force of actual attacks, allowing Seagem, a Pokémon still at top fighting condition that was unlikely to back down, to weaken the target without knocking it out.
    Saundra launched the Hyper Ball at the Sigilyph. The ball hit squarely on the Sigilyph's exhausted form and sucked it in. Seagem knocked it back to the platform we were on before it could fall down, and the ball locked up rather quickly. I picked up the Sigilyph's ball and added it to the ranger bag next to the ball noted to have an Aerodactyl.
    "That was a nice battle, Saundra." I turned to the trainer I was supposed to take. Proper introductions were easier when there wasn't a battle. "As I was saying, I'm Siless and I'll be taking you through the remainder of your run. Some sort of issue back at base took your old one, so they sent a newer guy."
    I looked around. There were many directions to go from the platform, though most of it was sky. I wasn't even sure what direction Saundra was headed before her battle.
    "So what did you come here looking for?" Maybe that would give a good idea as to where to go…
    After it was all said and done, Seagem’s efforts turned out to be enough to net Sigilyph. She flew over and watched the Ball wiggle after knocking it onto the platform, cooing in satisfaction when it fell still. I chuckled and patted her neck as my new Ranger picked up the Ball and placed it in a bag, one that most likely contained the Aero I’d captured earlier with my previous Ranger.
    "That was a nice battle, Saundra,” he told me as he turned to face me. I nodded at the compliment and Seagem tossed her head smugly, not at all humble in receiving the praise. "As I was saying, I'm Siless and I'll be taking you through the remainder of your run. Some sort of issue back at base took your old one, so they sent a newer guy."
    “Well, things happen,” I answered, staring out at the heavy downpour still coming down beyond the tower of Outer Heaven. “Good thing you came when you did or else you might have gotten caught in that.” Siless looked around as well, and after a moment he asked, “So what did you come here looking for?"
    “Not anything in particular,” I told him, turning to face him instead of focusing on the rain. “And really, I think it’s worked out for the best so far. I saw Arceus in a manner of speaking, encountered Rayqauza, and caught two relatively rare Pokemon. I guess what would really make this one of my best runs would be to run into a Skarmory, or maybe a Druddigon. Is there a specific part of Outer Heaven where we might have an easier chance of seeing one of them?”
    Skarmory and Druddigon… One was greatly territorial and one was highly predatory; it was unlikely that too many Pokémon would willingly live near one or the other. And from our vantage point, there were a few nesting platforms; some were simply wooden towers, others were extensions out from a lookout tower or a mountain. It was a bit difficult to see through the rain, but there was something I was certain of; a lot of these platforms had clouds of Flying-type Pokémon hovering over them. Whether this meant they were nesting together or competing, I wasn't sure, but I found it incredibly unlikely that either desired Pokémon would be near those nesting grounds.
    I turned to Saundra to share what exactly I was looking for (a nesting area without too many Pokémon) while explaining my reasoning. I wasn't the top-most authority on Flying-types, and I wasn't afraid to be corrected on them, but if any information I had helped out, it wouldn't hurt to share it.
    Siless shared his thoughts that Pokemon like the ones I would like to run into most likely wouldn’t be in this part of Outer Heaven. I could see why for Skarmory; they tended to nest in areas with thick brambles and from what I could see of this platform, there weren’t any kinds of suitable places for a Skarmory to nest at. Druddigon, though…being the predatory Pokemon they were, on top of being tough and bulky, could very well venture to an area like this in order to try and find unguarded nests to raid, though they’d probably have no problems taking on the parents too. Still, their nature caused them to be solitary and even when hunting, they probably wouldn’t go through the hassle of making their way to this particular platform. Which meant there was a good chance neither was here unless one was simply wandering around or something.
    “I’m thinking that with this level there’s probably not going to be either of those Pokemon here. Druddigon can barely glide, let only actually fly…to be honest I’m not sure why their population hasn’t been moved to Mount Deckbi…er, as I was saying, they’re probably at a lower platform where if they get knocked off it somehow, they wouldn’t have far to fall before they hit terra firma. Skarmory, while not the largest Flying Pokemon, are still pretty big and their metal-encased bodies are pretty heavy. A heavier creature needs more oxygen intake to function normally, so there’s a pretty good chance that if there’s not a random one here passing by, there won’t be any further up because of the thinning air. It might be a better idea to head lower; even if the Pokemon I would be interested in are higher up, it’ll start getting colder and harder to breathe, and I don’t want to put any of us through that.”
    Seagem made a sort of hmph noise at that, not one of irritation or disdain, but one of gratitude. Her dual typing made her extremely susceptible to cold of any kind, be it an Ice-based attack or simple chilly weather. On top of that she was fairly hefty, so the thinner air would make it harder for her to perform basic flight, especially when carrying my added weight. I patted her side and cast my gaze around the visible area of this platform. Coming higher up would have been a bit of a wasted effort if not for having captured Sigil.
    “Aaaaaat any rate, we’re here now, so until Seagem’s Rain Dance wears itself out, we must as well have a look around and see if there’s anything else that might catch my eye around here. After all, it’s not like I’m searching for a Skarm or Drudd specifically, so there’s no rush to go to another level right now. But I think it’d be a good idea to start heading back down towards the lower levels soon and see if we have any luck.”
    Saundra's reasoning seemed sound; it seemed she knew more about these Pokémon than I did. It was understandable at least, as my specialty was Grass-Type, which didn't have too many Pokémon that would settle for these altitudes… nor did it have too many that were this predatory… nor… well, it seemed my specialty barely included any Pokémon that had qualities similar to what we were looking for here.
    Suddenly, a loud rumbling followed by a metallic shriek shook the tower. The rumbling didn't sound like a Pokémon (though it could've been a Rock Slide or something similar), but it didn't sound (or feel) good. The metallic shriek… well, there wasn't too much that could make that noise, honestly, and I figured Saundra already recognized it.
    "Do we want to investigate?" It didn't seem that we had much of a choice; I didn't see much of a way we could get out safely from up here with the storm still active, and I wasn't sure just standing around was the safest idea either…
    I was thinking what would be the best course of action, but I didn’t get to think long before a powerful rumble shook the platform beneath my feet. At the same moment a sort of strange, mechanical shriek sounded out, and I instantly recognized the cry of a Skarmory. It was a peculiar sound, not one that was forgotten once you’d heard it; it sounded like some kind of machine being crumpled, like the squeal of rusty hinges being forced to work for the first time in decades. It was vaguely uncomfortable, and this particular cry sounded…angry? Aggressive? It didn’t sound friendly, that was for sure, and thanks to the storm that was coming down at the moment, the area had become overcast and gray. It was already somewhat dark because of the shadow from the platform above us, and with the cry echoing as it was, it was pretty much impossible to tell where it had come from.
    “Well, that doesn’t sound good. I know I wanted to find a Skarm, but I wasn’t expecting to possibly find one that sounds like it’s in a bad mood,” I said, digging Seagem’s Ball out of my pocket. “Sorry girl, but I don’t think this would be such a good battle for you. Your hide is tough, but it’s no match against the sharp feathers of a ticked-off Skarmory.” Seagem didn’t argue for once; even she knew that this might turn ugly any moment. She may have understood that fact better than me, actually, and seemed a little relieved to go back in her Ball. Maybe it was because she was a little worn out from her go with Sigil, but most of it was probably gratitude for not being expected to take on a steel-encased creature with blades for wings.
    After recalling Seagem, I pulled out the PokeBall of the third and final Pokemon accompanying me on this run. From within the red-and-white orb came Ripper, one of the first Pokemon I’d obtained over the years of being a Trainer. When I’d first caught him he had been a Scyther, but he had long since evolved into a Scizor. Like the Skarmory that was flying around somewhere, Ripper’s body was encased in a hard steel exoskeleton. Instead of being silver in color, though, Ripper’s body was the dark, crimson hue of fresh blood. His arms ended in large, powerful pinchers, and delicate but strong wings rapidly beat the air to keep himself cool.
    “Zor?” the large Bug Pokemon inquired, finding no opponent for him to battle. He glanced back at me, a frown causing his wedge-shaped face to scrunch up a little. I nodded forward and explained what was going on.
    “We heard a Skarmory screeching a second ago, and there was a rumble that came with it. Given your typing I think you’d be the best Pokemon to be out right now, since our quarry didn’t sound at all happy about something or another. We’ll need to be careful, but I’m not as worried with you being out. Just to be on the safe side, though, be ready for an emergency Agility. That way of things go south we’ll at least be prepared for it.” Ripper nodded without saying anything further and I looked over at Siless, inclining my head at him and answering his earlier question about whether I wanted to investigate the noise.
    “At this rate I think it might be the best idea. At least if we’re actively moving around it’ll be harder to launch any kind of strike than if we were just standing around doing nothing. Besides, if I can track that Skarm down and get it to battle, I’ll be that much closer to getting something I quite like to have.”
    "Alright, let's get going." I started looking for an easy way down; I didn't exactly expect to see anything of the sort, as the towers didn't seem to be the easiest place to navigate, but a set of stairs spiraling down to the lower platforms proved me wrong. They seemed safe enough, though I made sure that my Pokémon backup was prepared for action; I had several flying types in case a quick catch or escape was needed, and I had my trusty Gardevoir to monitor our health and mental states and, if necessary, teleport us from danger. Perhaps I was a bit overprepared Pokémon-wise, but I didn't much care for these towers…
    It wasn't too long until I caught sight of the lower platform, and there was no doubt that the metallic Pokémon on it was Skarmory. The platform itself didn't look too good; cuts and bits of stone strewn all over the place said wonders of its condition. A set of marks scratched from the center to the edge of the platform told me of a battle; Skarmory may not have caused the damage, but it may be fully prepared to further it.
