    Akinai tried to keep track of Cryrosant's enormous form as the Iron Armor Pokemon lumbered into the Smokescreen field, hoping that the creature's massive form would be somewhat visible compared to a semi-transparent Ghost. Unfortunately, the field was too thick; as soon as Cryrosant fully entered the Spiritomb's side of the room, the ink-hued gas appeared to envelop the Aggron completely, with not a single plating exposed. That smoke must be ultra thick, Akinai mused. For now, her only guide to this fight was sound alone.

    Cryrosant had reached her target destination and had swung her massive tail around eagerly, knowing that the Spiritomb must be near. As her tail completed it's arc however, something felt wrong; it felt like she had indeed struck something, but it had... moved? The Aggron vainly attempted to look around in the smoke, growling lowly in confusion. How could a rock move?

    The Spiritomb had indeed managed to move in the nick of time, only getting nicked by the Aggron's attack. It was now completely mobile, thanks to it's spiritual powers, and out of the Aggron's long reach for now. Seeing that it's opponent was completely lost on what to do next, the Forbidden Pokemon struck back. It began to focus and emit a crackling electrical field, it's sky-blue shade lost in the fog. Once it had built up enough of a charge, it directed the field to head straight towards the ironclad Pokemon.

    Cryrosant, despite being part Rock, could easily feel the effect of electrical attacks. The sudden strike came from nowhere, taking her completely by surprise. While it had been a minor shock, Cryrosant gave a low grunt of surprise; the attack did not appear to come from straight ahead, but from the side. She crouched down, trying to keep as few vital areas exposed as possible.

    Akinai had not seen the Shock Wave go off, but she still heard it. Electricity had a somewhat unique sound to it; the way they moved through the air sounded nothing like the sudden fwoosh of a Flamethrower or an incoming torrent like Hydro Pump. Judging by the sound that attack had made at the end, it had struck true; it didn't sound anything at all like the Thunderbolt that had missed Lunaris in the last battle.

    "The Spiritomb has gone mobile," Chainy said to Akinai. "If I were you, I'd get Cryrosant out of that Smokescreen - she's at a severe disadvantage in there."

    “How in the world-,” Akinai looked over at Chainy, and noticed that he had some strange sort of visor over his eyes and was looking straight into the Smokescreen, “Now that is nifty. I'm assuming that device lets you see through the smoke?” Either those are for Rangers only, or I have to get ahold of the store he got those from! Waitasec, something seems off. “Wait, what do you mean it moved?” This battle just went from trivial to downright difficult, and downright disastrous for Cryrosant. She had fallen completely into the Spiritomb's trap by assuming it could not move.

    Akinai could recall the Aggron and send out another teammate to deal with the situation, that would be the most ideal option. Cryrosant only had one or two long-range attacks, and the stone here was too smooth and hard to allow a Mud-Slap attack, unless she ordered the Pokemon to try smashing into the stone for access to the ground below. Such a tactic would take time though, and every second mattered on that field; the Spiritomb could just keep shooting long-ranged attacks at Cryrosant, leaving her a sitting duck while she dug. There was one fatal flaw to recalling at the moment however: she couldn't see. One needed to aim the Ball at their Pokemon and have an unobstructed view; Akinai had no clue where her teammate was currently. Chainy was right, she would need to get Cryrosant out of that Smokescreen, and fast.

    Time to sound the retreat. But first, plan an escape method and a tactic to get out of there as quickly as possible. “Cryrosant, there has been a change of plans,” Akinai called out to the Aggron, “apparently that thing is on the move. Use Metal Sound to disorient it, and use Autotomize to get out of there!” Sacrificing some armor would be a somewhat risky tactic, but it would help Cryrosant move out of there faster. Akinai motioned to Chainy and covered her ears, hinting that the next attack might be loud.

    Cryrosant backed forward a step and rose fully up on her hind legs, moving out of the crouching position she had taken after being struck by the Shock Wave. Holding up her two front claws, she began to vigorously rub them together, producing an earsplitting screech throughout the air. As soon as her attack was complete, Cryrosant began to grab ahold of a steel brace on her left rear leg and pulled, straining as she did so. In a moment, the brace broke off, crumbling as it fell to the ground. She repeated this process with the brace on her right rear leg as well, with the same result. As soon as both had been removed from her body Cryrosant attempted to turn completely around and ran straight forward, using all four limbs for extra speed.

    “Now that is nifty. I'm assuming that device lets you see through the smoke?" Akinai asked, apparently seeing my lens for the first time.

    "Yeah, it's an Aura Reader," I replied. "Originally it was only used for checking the life signs of Pokemon inside eggs, but I've modified it. Fairly heavily, too. It's a pity the Park Shop doesn't stock them any more, this thing is easily the most useful tool in my arsenal."

    “Hmmm. Wait, what do you mean it moved?” my Trainer asked suddenly, like what I had said before only just sunk in.

    "Spiritomb can use the move Telekinesis," I explained, "so this one is likely using the move on its base stone. Quite clever, actually. It'll be tiring the Ghost-type out, though - the tricky part is going to be making sure the Spiritomb is in a hard-to-defend spot when its Telekinesis ends."

    Akinai seemed to be considering a change in plans, so I just watched the battlefield quietly. The small sparks were crawling over Cryrosant, and the Spiritomb appeared to be watching the Aggron very carefully. Despite doing a great job of affecting an air of carelessness, I was pretty sure the Spiritomb was at least a little intimidated by Cryrosant's sheer bulk.

    “Cryrosant, there has been a change of plans. Apparently that thing is on the move. Use Metal Sound to disorient it, and use Autotomize to get out of there!” Akinai called out to her Pokemon. She covered her ears and looked meaningfully at me. I didn't need the hint - I remembered Cryrosant's Metal Sound from her battle with the Absol. I covered my ears, and the Metal Sound began. It was just as violent as I remembered it - the screeching filled the entire cavern, echoing and reverberating and making it that much worse. The Spiritomb backed up a little bit, clearly taking as much or more pain than I was.

    The noise died out, and a couple seconds later I heard a loud thud. Not long after the crash Cryrosant erupted out of the smokescreen. Pieces of her armour were missing, but their lack didn't make her look weaker or threadbare - the missing parts were peeled off in swirling and jagged patterns, making the Aggron look even more war-like, and dare I say it - badass. Unfortunately for the Aggron, it was being pursued. Not by the Spiritomb, but by a few rings of water that burst out of the cloud. Apparently the Spiritomb wasn't done with Cryrosant yet.

    “Telekinesis, huh? Interesting,” Akinai responded back to Chainy, mulling this new information over in her mind. Telekinesis, along with Autotomize, were part of a group of moves that she was not fully familiar with yet. Judging from the move's name, she assumed it had something to do with lifting objects. Either this Spiritomb was improvising, or had this planned all along. She was willing to bet money on the latter in this case. Regardless, it was nice to know that such a move would tire out the Ghost. Covering her ears again, she watched the area where Cryrosant had entered the Smokescreen, and hopefully where she would be exiting as well. She pulled out the Aggron's Pokeball, waiting for the right moment to recall the creature. Her other hand rested on Lunaris' Ball, which was still secured on her belt. Using her Mightyena was part of her key plan in getting rid of this Smokescreen once and for all.

    Moments after the Metal Sound barrage had been completed, Cryrosant dashed out of the darkness, heading towards the two humans. Without the excess armor weighing her down, she was actually quite fast; while the Aggron would never beat anything like a Jolteon in a footrace, she would definitely not be left in the dust. In her rush to leave, however, Cryrosant had forgotten to sense if the Spiritomb was preparing a counter-move.

    Spiritomb, while it's nonexistent ears were surely ringing from such a close-range Metal Sound attack, managed to recover just long enough to see Cryrosant's tail leaving the inky murk the spirit had created. In retaliation, and to give the Aggron something to remember, it quickly spat a few aquatic rings at the iron giant.

    Akinai, upon seeing seeing Cryrosant safely leave the darkness, let out a sigh of relief. Aside from the chunks missing from her armor, the Aggron looked relatively unfazed. She held up the Ball, ready to return her teammate, when she saw the pulsing rings heading straight for Cryrosant. Wait a moment, is that a Water-type move? She might be able to use this move to her advantage, if she was quick about it. She completed the action, recalling Cryrosant in silence, then shifted her other hand to Jade's Pokeball instead. She threw the sphere, aiming it so it would land close to the Water Pulse's path. As soon as Jade's form began to materialize, she finally called out her command.

    “Use Supersonic, dead ahead! Try to bounce back that pulse. If you pull that off, whip up a Sandstorm!” Using Sandstorm indoors was yet another risky move, Akinai was well aware of it. Even though this battlefield looked strikingly familiar to a temple, there was bound to be sand in here; she only hoped there would be enough for the Desert Spirit to work with.

    As soon as Jade had fully formed, she took a deep breath and blew a retaliating wave at the Water Pulse. This counter-pulse, however was made of a powerful force of sound. The two forces appeared to battle in mid-air a moment. This attack finished, Jade began to powerfully move her wings back and forth, being lifted slightly off the ground from the movement. Her wings began to buzz loudly than ever, and sand began to swirl around the room.

    Akinai reacted quickly upon seeing the incoming Water Pulse. She held up a Poke Ball and returned Cryrosant. I knew that the dropped sections of Cryrosant's armour would fade into nothingness as this happened. Akinai then threw a different Poke Ball out into the arena and Jade appeared in the Water Pulse's path.

    “Use Supersonic, dead ahead! Try to bounce back that pulse. If you pull that off, whip up a Sandstorm!" Akinai ordered.

    Jade whipped her head around and inhaled deeply before screeching loudly at the incoming attack. I covered my ears like before, but thankfully, Supersonic was a highly directional attack unlike Metal Sound, so the noise wasn't as bad.

    The Supersonic crashed into the Water Pulse. A couple of the rings bounced back the direction they had travelled, but then the rest detonated. A spray of foam splattered Jade, but by the looks of it the water was more an inconvenience to the Dragon-type than anything else. A sudden screech told me that the reflected Water Pulse rings had hit the Spiritomb - it must have not been expecting its attack to return.

    The Flygon began to flap her wings, and small motes of dust and sand started to swirl around her. I covered my face with my trenchcoat and watched as Jade created a full-sized Sandstorm. The moving winds and sand slowly began to tug at the Smokescreen, eventually starting to blow it away. Soon, the Spiritomb would be revealed.

    Apparently the Ghost-type knew this, so it decided to go on the offensive. Its base stone hurtled out of the diminishing cloud at an incredible speed, trailing black and purple streams of energy, slamming into Jade's chest. As soon as it made contact, the purple gases erupted, but this time the Spiritomb's gaseous body was covered with a black aura. The aura shimmered and moved around until it was in the shape of a sphere in-between the Wild Pokemon and the Dragon-type. When the Shadow Ball was ready - it took mere seconds - it blasted in Jade at point-blank range. The Flygon was blasted into the air and landed on her back near the cavern walls, over thirty metres away.

    As the Pulse/Supersonic waves battled each other, one had finally lost the match. Most of the water rings simply imploded on themselves, some of the residue landing on Jade. A small amount of them, however, had been successfully pushed back to the creature that had sent the move. They disappeared back into the inky fog they had came from.

    Jade, while she didn't appear to be hurt, shook herself as the water struck her. She looked around the temple with a look of utter distaste on her face, trying to see who was responsible. No one would get her wet and walk away unscathed! She landed as she finished the Sandstorm, and looked straight into the Smokescreen that she had just directed the Water Pulse towards.

    Akinai, holding up one of her arms to help guard her eyes from the Sandstorm winds, couldn't help but smirk a bit. A wet Jade was almost as fierce as a soaked Skitty, and this wild Pokemon was about to learn this lesson the hard way. Even better, thanks to wind and sand swirling about in the air, it appeared as if the Smokescreen was beginning to dissipate. She had shuddered a bit upon hearing the Spiritomb screech in surprise as it's attack had rebounded, but it had also meant that the spirit was starting to learn that long-ranged attacks were useless. For now, this arena was entirely in the Flygon's favor.

    Spiritomb, unfortunately, was thinking the same thing as well. Seeing that it's defensive Smokescreen shelter was being blown away, it began to take the initiative. As soon as the smoky haze was completely gone, it had sretreated back into it's stone and shot out from it's hiding place at an insane velocity, heading straight for Jade. Before the Flygon could even react, the Forbidden Pokemon had struck the creature full-on in the chest. As soon as contact had been made it burst out from the keystone, it's gaseous form outlined by an aura dark as midnight. Forming this aura into a perfect sphere, the Shadow Ball shot straight at Jade, sending her flying on the opposite of the field.

    Akinai watched the entire display in shock, stuck between the feelings of despair of seeing her starter suddenly in trouble and being reminded that she was fighting a very smart, extremely vengeful, spirit. Jade had seemed to have the entire fight under control, and in less then ten seconds had been blown away as if the Dragon-type was made of paper. Even Absol, a creature known for their intelligence and speed, had been unable to pull off a move so rapidly. “Jade, are you alright?” Akinai called out to her Pokemon, trying her best to keep her voice calm and even. She would not let this wild Pokemon know that it had scared her.

    Jade, who had landed hard on her back, managed to register Akinai's voice. Slowly she rose, testing limbs to see if anything had been broken from the attack. The Flygon's chest ached and it felt like she had forced into a boxing match with a Hitmonchan, but everything seemed to be in working order. She nodded to her trainer, then focused her gaze on the Spiritomb.

    “Thank the gods,” Akinai breathed, keeping her voice low. The combination attack had done a number on Jade, but she seemed to still be able to battle for a while more. She swore that as soon as they left this Park, they would head for a large, open region, full of places to fly around and plenty of sunlight – especially sunlight, she shuddered. She would be done with Ghosts a long, long time after this match.

    Spiritomb had not appeared to move after unleashing it's devastating attack. Whether it had been tired out from pulling off such a combination or was waiting for the Flygon to make the first move, Akinai was unsure. For now, it seemed perfectly content with waiting.

    Akinai glared at the keystone holding the malevolent spirit, furious that it acted as if this battle was something not worth it's while. Was it angry, annoyed, upset? Or was it possibly, for the lack of a better word, bored? Akinai was not sure which of these it was, nor was certain on which emotion would be the worst. For now, it was time to strike back.

    “Show that Spiritomb that we're not to be taken lightly, Jade. Trap that stone with a Sand Tomb, then close in with a DragonBreath,” Akinai ordered Jade, still keeping her eyes on the Spiritomb. Let's see how it handles this, she thought vehemently, trying all the while to keep her face a neutral mask.

    Jade began to beat her wings once more, manipulating the sandy winds around her with skillful care into a small tornado. Once the dust devil had advanced to a height roughly half of the Flygon's height, she moved her wings once more, this time, moving them backwards and forwards once to push her creation at the Spiritomb. As the Sand Tomb closed in, Jade took another deep breath and blew forward, releasing a fiery, cerulean blaze at the Ghost Pokemon.

    "Jade, are you alright?" Akinai called out worriedly to her Pokemon. The Flygon got to her feet slowly, taking time to test out her limbs. When everything was found to be in working order, she nodded to her Trainer and concentrated back on the Spiritomb.

    "Thank the gods," my Trainer murmured. I raised an eyebrow slightly - not many people in this day and age were religious. Then again, it was probably just a saying. Either way was fine with me.

    “Show that Spiritomb that we're not to be taken lightly, Jade. Trap that stone with a Sand Tomb, then close in with a DragonBreath," Akinai commanded.

    Jade began to beat her wings, and a small tornado of sand rose up in front of her. The Spiritomb began to chuckle again and it started to glow lime green. When the Sand Tomb was ready, it swirled towards the Ghost-type, becoming even larger. As the tornado approached, the green light left the Wild Pokemon and blasted through the tornado, wrapping around Jade. The Sand Tomb wrapped around the Spiritomb not long after, and both Pokemon were completely obscured for a couple of seconds.

    Grudgingly the glow faded from around Jade, and she didn't seem too hurt. Her wings started to buzz even stronger, and she took to the air, approaching the trapped Spiritomb. Her jaw opened and blue flames swirled around inside her jaws before boiling out over the Spiritomb. As she approached, the purple gas reached up and swatted at Jade, knocking her further into the air. It tried to follow her, but suddenly jerked back into its regular shape. The Spiritomb screeched in rage - something it hadn't expected had occurred. I tried to scan the Wild Pokemon, but the sand threw off my visor's sensors. Maybe Akinai knew what was going on - she spent more time around Flygon than I did.

    As the Sand Tomb was being formed, Spiritomb readied it's own counter-move as well. It began to glow with yet another aura, this time one of a sickeningly green hue. It watched the dust devil grow larger and larger, and when it was finally released the spirit let his own move fly forward as well. The two moves crashed into each other with impressive force, yet reached their designated targets regardless. Both Pokemon were obscured from these attacks; Jade by being covered in a blindingly green light, and the Spiritomb completely trapped by the sand tornado.

    Akinai watched the green light warily seeing what exactly the move would do. She had thought she had heard the wild Pokemon let off a small laugh when it had released the attack, so it was apparently nothing good. She was not even certain what that move was supposed to be; judging by the hue, it could be either a Bug or Grass-type move. She only thing she could do was watch and hope the light would not hurt Jade too badly.

    Finally, the light faded away from Jade, the Dragon-type blinking a moment to get re-adjusted to the torchlight. While the attack seemed to hurt the Flygon somewhat, there seemed to be no other ill effects. She took off, opting to approach the Spiritomb in an aerial assault, and released her DragonBreath straight at the Forbidden Pokemon.

    Spiritomb appeared to shudder a moment, the azure flames from Flygon's attack swirled over it's body a moment before dying out. In retaliation it stretched out a portion of it's gaseous form forward, making it solid a moment as the portion struck Jade. The unexpected attack knocked the Flygon further upwards, surprising the creature. Seeing that it's annoying, pesky adversary was temporarily unable to react, it stretched forwards, planning another combination move. Before it could fully reach Jade, however, it had snapped back to it's original form, giving a howl of frustration.

    “Excellent job, Jade. It worked perfectly,” Akinai said to her Flygon, grinning with triumph. While it didn't happen often, DragonBreath had a miniscule chance to hinder a target's movement, creating an effect similar to paralysis. Judging from the Spiritomb's reaction, this effect had indeed kicked in, and worked beautifully. Let's see it pull off any combos now!

    The Spiritomb was partially crippled at the moment, there was no denying that. Add to the fact that the rippling Sandstorm created by Jade was still going strong was surely doing continuous minimal damage to the spirit meant that the wild Pokemon was way more then likely taking the battle a lot more seriously now. It would be weakened, but Ghosts tended to have countless tricks up their sleeve.

    Crippling it further now while the Sandstorm was still raging would be the best method of attack. Only crippling would win the day though; Akinai needed a way to damage the creature as well. While she had struck the Spiritomb with a few moves, it still looked fairly healthy. Jade, on the other hand, looked like she was starting to tire. She had been unable to heal the Flygon between battles, so she was still hurting slightly from the earlier Absol fight. While Akinai did have a Potion or two left, she would rather not try to heal during this conflict unless absolutely necessary. Jade needed to keep full eye on her opponent, and Akinai wanted to stay as far away from the Spiritomb as possible.

    Time to give that Ghost a taste of it's own medicine. “Jade, you're doing great so far! Strike back with a Faint Attack, then cover your escape with a Sand-Attack!” Akinai called out to the Flygon. Normally, using a Ground-type move in the air was next to impossible. With all the sand swirling about, however, made this not a problem.

    Jade flew upwards, angling herself so that she was directly above the glowering Spiritomb. Suddenly she folded in her wings, dive-bombing straight towards the Ghost-type. Once she had reached her target, the Flygon lifted off once more, blowing a large amount of sand at the creature's face as she took off.

    “Excellent job, Jade. It worked perfectly,” Akinai called out excitedly as the Dragon-type returned to her side. Apparently she wasn't as confused by the Spiritomb's sudden paralysis as I was - there was probably a secondary effect of one of Jade's moves that I was overlooking. I didn't spend much time with Dragon-type.

    The Spiritomb's gaseous cloud thrashed around angrily, not able to extend past five metres or so. It then tried to hop forwards with its stone, but the Sand Tomb held it tight. The Ghost-type emitted what could only be called a furious roar. Ghost Pokemon loved freedom and battled using their dexterity. Trapping it in place like this was incredibly clever of Akinai - the Spiritomb's main strength had now been nullified.

    “Jade, you're doing great so far! Strike back with a Faint Attack, then cover your escape with a Sand-Attack!” my Trainer ordered.

    Jade flew high into the air, over the raging Spiritomb. At the zenith of her arc she tucked her wings in and fell towards the Ghost-type, divebombing it. The Wild Pokemon looked up and saw the incoming Flygon and launched waves of dark energy. The Dark Pulses struck Jade repeatedly, but her speed and the fact that Faint Attack was a Dark-type attack as well helped her to shrug them off without losing too much speed. The Flygon crashed into the Spiritomb's gaseous body, causing it to recoil, and as it flinched Jade flapped her wings again, pushing sand from the sandstorm into the Spiritomb's eyes. The Ghost-type screeched and flailed around as Jade started back towards Akinai.

    The Spiritomb wasn't going to let Jade get away scot-free, though. It howled and suddenly caught alight. The fire blazed high around the Ghost Pokemon before shrinking down into little balls. The Spiritomb was surrounded by perhaps thirty small fiery orbs, which it launched towards the fleeing Flygon with a shrill scream. They chased after Jade, growing closer and closer, tracking her like heat-seeking missiles. Akinai would have to act fast to save Jade from the attack.

    OOC: No worries XD Skyrim alone is probably going to eat everyone's soul.

    Akinai couldn't help but wince as she saw the Spiritomb retaliate with another attack of it's own, releasing shadowy pulses of energy as Jade dive-bombed the Wild Pokemon; at so close a range, it had to really hurt. As the Dark Pulse subsided, however, she was surprised to see that the Flygon had no trouble finishing her combination attack and still have plenty of energy to fly away. Maybe the Spiritomb is starting to finally tire, Akinai mused to herself. Something did not seem right about this- for such an infamous Pokemon, it should have a lot more fight in it. Either it was already weakened before they had encountered it, or it was planning something.

    Jade, slightly trembling as an aftereffect of the Dark Pulse barrage, slowly flew back to her trainer. Judging from the screeching and thrashing sounds behind her, the Spiritomb sounded like it would be busy quite a while. After all, it was caught in one of her always-effective sand tornados, and it was unable to react quickly due to the spirit feeling the full force of her Breath attack. It was with the utmost confidence in her victory that Jade flew back to Akinai instead of keeping an eye on her opponent; a quick Pokeball throw at the Ghost, one of those miraculous Potion-devices to heal her wounds, and they would hopefully be out of this cursed place.

    Akinai was kneeling down, indeed reaching for her bag, deciding on what to do next. She had two Superballs left; she could try to catch the Spiritomb now and see how things went. If it was indeed truly hurt, any further action could faint the Pokemon. In addition, ending this battle as quickly as possible was an ideal action. Her entire team was hurting, and the Sandstorm was not going to last all day to whittle down the Spiritomb's health. Sand Tomb also lasted a limited time as well; she would probably not have another chance to immobilize the Wild Pokemon so well later on in the battle.

    And yet... a more paranoid side of Akinai was practically screaming at her to play things safe. Though her starter seemed ready for more, Jade had taken quite a few hits in this conflict, along with dealing with a deadly Ice-type move earlier. Despite any protests that the Dragon-type would make, healing now while the Spiritomb was occupied would be the best bet; those Super Potions weren't in her pack for show, after all! Unsure on which move would be the best way to proceed, Akinai looked up from her pack and stole a look at the battlefield.

    Jade was making her way back, flying about in a way that Akinai could swear was a swagger. Apparently the Flygon had no worries at all in her move's abilities to immobilize her current opponent, spirit or no spirit. Akinai made a mental note to later tease her teammate for such arrogance. After all, whenever she got overconfident about something the draconic creature would end up whopping her on the head with a tail or wing, depending on if the Flygon was airborne or not.

    The Spiritomb, watching it's enemy glide away so smugly, let out a screeching howl of outrage. The Ghost-type had defeated many opponents during it's existence, and caused countless others to flee away in absolute terror as well. To have this giant green gnat utterly blind, humiliate and, the absolute worst thing of all, trap his form to a completely stationary location was damage enough... but now it had the gall to just calmly leave? This transgression could not, would not go unpunished. It screeched louder, and suddenly the Forbidden Pokemon was completely aflame.

    Akinai's gaze darted a moment to Chainy, noticing a sudden increase of brightness in the room. Did he see something in and had lit the area up to better see it? Almost immediately she nulled that thought; the Ranger had nothing new out and seemed to be keeping a close eye on the Spiritomb. “Crap, don't tell me-” Akinai said, realization dawning on her as she switched her attention to the wild Pokemon. She caught the tail-end of the action, watching the blaze break off into smaller, yet numerous, flaming wisps. While their size seemed to be around the same as a candle flame, these seemed to have a foreboding aura to them, and floated in the air unnaturally. With another howl, the Spiritomb loosed his attack and the flames darted towards Jade.

    Not for the first time, Akinai cursed the flooring of this temple. Under normal circumstances, she would order the Flygon to simply use Dig to avoid the incoming attack. With such a hard surface, however, such an action would probably just leave her Pokemon tired, along with an odd dent in the ground that would surely leave future Park-goers confused. Recalling Jade would also have consequences; the Sand Tomb would surely disappear, leaving the Spiritomb with more mobility. The only option she saw left was to somehow extinguish the flames or push them away.

    “Quickly, turn around and use Sonicboom!” Akinai warned Jade, seeing the fiery orbs rapidly approach. “Try to push yourself back so they can't get you from behind.” She grabbed one of her Super Potions in a firm grip, ready to apply the spray to her Flygon once her move was complete and all the flames dispersed.

    Jade turned herself about in midair, her relaxed stance replaced by surprise. Seeing the wisps home towards her in deadly accuracy, The Flygon landed and stretched her wings back, as if charging energy into them. After holding this pose a moment she blew a mighty gust of wind forward, propelling her body backwards from the force as well. The gust made a loud booming noise as it rushed forward, on a collision path with the orbs and, ultimately, to the trapped Spiritomb.

    ~~~~~
    “Quickly, turn around and use Sonicboom!” Akinai called out. “Try to push yourself back so they can't get you from behind.”
    Jade pushed powerfully against the air with one of her wings, spinning herself around. Her body hit the ground with a thump, and she sent a huge roiling wind towards the incoming fire orbs. The wind made a thudding booming kind of sound as it broke the speed barrier. The Sonicboom blasted into the fire orbs and blew them off course. It continued into the Spiritomb, carving a hole through the raging Sandstorm and blowing a huge chunk of the Spiritomb's gases out of its body. The Ghost-type screeched loudly, apparently in pain.
    The fire orbs were scattered in all directions and they began wobbling, underlying evidence of their instability. They gradually recovered from the Sonicboom interruption and swung back towards Jade. Luckily for the Flygon, they detonated before they made contact, resulting in only minimal damage. Akinai ran forward and sprayed the Flygon with a Super Potion, healing the Dragon-type's wounds. Jade's eyes closed a little as the potion stung, but it wasn't long before she was looking much better.
    The Spiritomb shrieked again, but the pillar of sand had surrounded it again and I couldn't see what it was doing. All was silent for a couple of seconds, and then a vicious Snarl erupted from the Ghost-type. I could almost see the noise's killing intent as it spread throughout the room. Jade whimpered a little bit, flinching and backing away from the horrible noise. I didn't blame her - the only thing keeping me from running was my duties as a Ranger.
    Jade's counter-move was more powerful than anything Akinai had expected; not only did the sonic wave push the flaming wisps back, but it also sliced a path through the Sandstorm winds, the sandy prison that was still encircling the Spiritomb, and the wild Pokemon itself! The spirit screeched in pain yet again, it's amazement mirroring Akinai's own surprise. A few of the flames tried to rebound back to their original target, but exploded before reaching their mark. While not leaving a searing burn, they did manage to slightly damage the Flygon. Seeing an opening, Akinai rushed forward and applied the Super Potion to Jade's wounds. “You did amazing out there,” Akinai murmured to her starter once she she was beside the Dragon-type.
    Jade, whose gaze was on her opponent, started a moment as she saw something moving out of the corner of her eye. Seeing it was only her Trainer, with a healing device no less, she relaxed a little. As Akinai went to spray the healing mist on the worst of the Flygon's wounds, she couldn't help but twitch a little; even though Jade was quite used to dealing with Potions, she could never get used to the burning sensation that surfaced before the healing effect came in. Once the burning was replaced with a blissful numbness, the Flygon slightly closed her eyes in contentment.
    As for the Spiritomb, it had become quite quiet after the the Sand Tomb covered it once more, deathly quiet. While it was impossible to tell how hurt the creature was, the fact that the sand tornado still stood was proof enough that the wild Pokemon was still conscious.
    Akinai, taking advantage of this pause in action, moved back to her pack and stored the empty Potion away. She had been unable to completely heal Jade, but it would have to do for now. Plus, the Spiritomb surely had to be feeling it's wounds by now. Even Ghost-types needed to rest every now and then, and the battle had taken a lot out of both opponents. She turned back to the battle, assessing the current situation. Judging by the weak winds swirling about, Jade's Sandstorm would completely dissipate soon. The Sand Tomb probably did not have much strength left either; that had been tossed up almost instantly after, and the move lasted a similar amount of time. As soon as these were down, the Spiritomb would have almost free roam once more. They would have to act now, before the Ghost tossed up another Smokescreen.
    After being silent for so long, the Spiritomb let out another screech, this one ringing of pure frustration. Every move it had tried in this blinding maelstrom seemed to either fail horribly or rebound back in it's face. Even worse, it's enemy simply flitted about everywhere, as if the green creature was mocking it's inability to move. Unsurprisingly, something seemed to finally snap. From deep within the Spiritomb a rage began to surface, and it let out an unearthly snarl that resonated throughout the entire area. He would teach this opponent why it was called the Forbidden Pokemon, and rip off the fly's wings while doing so!
    Akinai immediately staggered as the noise struck her ears, absolutely petrified as she stared ahead. She had not seen or heard so powerful a rage in a long, long time. Eventually she was able to turn her head and look over at Jade, who had let out a whimper and appeared to be just as terrified as her Trainer. This was for good reason; the Flygon was probably remembering the same event as she. Akinai closed her eyes and shook her head in a vain attempt to block out an old memory that threatened to surface; if she and Jade froze up now, they would shame themselves. “Jade, get up!” she called out to her Pokemon, trying to maintain a commanding tone.
    Jade, whose eyes were as large as saucers, simply stared back at her Trainer. She was shaking all over, and didn't show any times of stopping soon; her fear would throw off the accuracy of her long-ranged attacks. Seeing that Akinai had no intentions of retreating, she fearfully stood up and directed her gaze back to the swirling sand pillar.
    Akinai went over the details once more, a plan quickly forming in her mind. If Jade had trouble aiming currently, that left only one solution: direct combat. With the Spiritomb trapped, it would have no way to effectively fight back. Flygon were also able to handle sand and dust storms with no issues at all, so Jade would easily be able to quickly get into the tornado. The only problem was leaving it as well. If the wild Pokemon had enough vigor left and was feeling as truly enraged as that Snarl proved, the spirit would tear the Flygon to shreds.
    All or nothing, then. “We can do this, Jade! It's only trying to scare us,” and succeeding admirably, Akinai stated silently. She kept her gaze forward, knowing if she looked away now she would start running and never look back. “Show that Ghost that we're not afraid. Strike his stone hard and quickly with a Dragon Claw!” Sooner or later, this match was drawing to an end.
    Jade let out a loud cry; whether it was to steel herself or discourage her foe, the Flygon herself was uncertain. The Flygon lifted off once more, and darted directly towards the Sand Tomb. Her claws began to glow with a bright light, and she entered the tornado.
    Akinai, once she had lost sight of Jade, backed up towards her pack once more. If things went well, she would need a Ball to capture the weakened Pokemon.
    The Snarl seemed to affect Akinai and Jade a lot more than me, as unbelievable and impossible as that seemed to me. The young woman bowed her head and was shaking it, and the Flygon seemed to be suffering a bad post-traumatic stress attack. Akinai stumbled backwards and muttered to herself, trying to snap out of it. Finally, she gathered enough courage to snap out of her shock.
    "Jade, get up!" she yelled as her knees shook slightly. The Flygon crouched even lower, if that was possible. Her head turned around and she stared with large eyes at Akinai, practically begging to run. When it became clear that the woman wasn't going to flee, Jade reluctantly turned around, back towards the Spiritomb. The Ghost-type stopped the unholy noise and looked a little miffed. It must have been unhappy that it hadn't sent the interlopers fleeing.
    “We can do this, Jade! It's only trying to scare us. Show that Ghost that we're not afraid. Strike his stone hard and quickly with a Dragon Claw!” Akinai exclaimed.
    Jade roared and dove towards the whirling sandstorm. It took a lot of courage for the Dragon-type to do that, and yet she'd come through. Her claws began to glow sky-blue, and she disappeared inside the whirling sand cyclone. Nothing happened for a couple seconds, and then I heard an unearthly screech. Jade then blasted out of the Sand Tomb and quickly as she could.
    "Great job!" I shouted, unable to hold it in. Jade had managed to land a strike without getting hit in return - what a victory!
    As they often did, the gods of luck decided to screw me over. As Jade retreated, the column of sand stopped whirling all at once and fell onto the ground. There was a second screech and the Spiritomb's stone blasted towards the fleeing Flygon. Just before contact, the Ghost's purple and black gas erupted out and the entire Forbidden Pokemon smashed into Jade, knocking her clean out of the air and sending her slamming into the temple's wall.
    Both Pokemon made contact at the same time - Jade squeaked as she hit the wall, and the Spiritomb's stone clattered on the ground. Its gaseous body suddenly froze and collapsed, like a pile of wet sand built too high. My mouth dropped as I realised what was happening.
    "Akinai, I think that was a Giga Impact," I said urgently. "Spiritomb won't be able to move for about a minute. This is probably your best shot at capturing it!"
    As the Spiritomb screeched once more, Akinai's hopes faltered a moment. Whether it was a cry of pain or one of retaliation, she was unsure. Jade dashed her way out of the Sand Tomb with not a scratch on her confirmed the reason for that unearthly sound; the Flygon had managed to escape the spirit's clutches once more.
    "Great job!" Chainy shouted, seeing the Flygon dart out of the cyclone.
    The sudden sound caused Akinai to jump a moment. It appeared as if her Ranger was as engrossed in the battle as her. She gave a small grin back, about to say something when she noticed something seemed off. The constant buzzing sound in the air was beginning to die down, Akinai expected that, but the swirling sand surrounding the Spiritomb was slowing to a crawl as well; the Sand Tomb had finally come to an end. Before she could shout a warning to Jade, the wild Pokemon took action.
    Spiritomb, seeing that it's sandy prison had collapsed, let out a howl of triumph. Finally, it would get revenge! The spirit's eyes darted on the Flygon, eyes burning with hatred, and it's keystone shot forward with the force and speed of a bullet. The stone struck Jade in the chest once more, sending the Dragon-type flying back and crashing into a wall.
    Jade let out a whimper upon hitting the wall and collapsed to the ground. While she still appeared ready to fight, the high-impact strike had knocked the wind out of her.
    Oddly enough, the Spiritomb appeared to be just as weakened. It's form had spilled out of the stone upon impact, and had crumpled onto the ground. The Ghost-type twitched about, but made no other signs of movement.
    "Akinai, I think that was a Giga Impact," Chainy said to Akinai, an urgent tone in his voice. "Spiritomb won't be able to move for about a minute. This is probably your best shot at capturing it!"
    Akinai, whose gaze was on Jade, slowly nodded. She shot a look over to the Spiritomb, noticed that the stone base appeared to be battered and worn. The spirit looked just as bad as the stone it housed in; the two must connected somehow in durability. While Jade could probably take one or two more hits, she would never get another chance like this to catch the Spiritomb. She reached into her pack and retrieved a Superball, and walked towards the wild Pokemon. She suppressed a shudder as she approached the Ghost-type, but said nothing; it had to be ten times worse for Jade. When she was a mere few feet away she threw the Superball, aiming for the Spiritomb's stone.
    Akinai appeared to listen to me. She slowly nodded and moved down to her pack, pulling out a SuperBall. She then walked forward carefully, ever-closer to the Spiritomb. The Ghost's eyes rolled around inside its semi-liquid form, before finally settling on the woman, watching her closely and calmly. Finally, Akinai tossed the ball towards the Forbidden Pokemon. The sphere sunk into its body for a couple seconds, and then the Spiritomb began to shine red. It disappeared into the capture device, gaseous body and all. The ball wiggled on the ground, from side to side.
    "Great job!" I called out to Akinai. I looked over at Jade - she'd managed to right herself, and while she looked a little bedragged and her wings were a little crooked I knew she'd be fine with a little rest. I was just about to walk about and pick up the Spiritomb's ball when I heard a fizzing-popping sound. My mouth dropped and I turned back to see the Spiritomb emerging from the ball. I darted forward and grabbed Akinai's arm before yanking her back away from the Wild Pokemon. The SuperBall clattered onto the ground and rolled away, coming to a stop in the middle of the room.
    Thankfully the Pokemon decided that Jade was a bigger threat than us, so it concentrated on the Dragon-type. Its gaseous body grew big and it stared straight at Jade, its eyes wide open. The swirl began to spin and the Ghost-type emitted a soft keening sound that was very different-sounding to its earlier screeches - it was almost pleasant to listen to. My eyelids started drooping, and I instantly knew what the Spiritomb was doing. I wanted to warn Akinai but I was too sleepy - hopefully Jade didn't make the mistake of looking into the Spiritomb's eyes.
    Akinai kept her gaze locked on the Superball, watching the sphere wobble back and forth. She thought she heard Chainy call out something to her, but was not paying attention. “Give up already,” she muttered, wanting this battle to end. As if the Spiritomb had heard her, there was a sudden flash of light and the wild Pokemon broke free from the orb. She could only stare as the Ball, still intact rolled away; it wasn't until her Ranger had yanked her back that she finally came back to her senses.
    “Thanks,” Akinai said, then directed her attention towards Jade. Her starter was back on her feet, but her wings hung somewhat oddly; the Flygon was probably unable to fly for now. The Superball had also managed to roll far away, close to the center of the area. Even with a single failed capture, the Spiritomb had managed to shift things back in it's favor.
    The Spiritomb shot Akinai an odd look, as if it was examining the human and was deciding which would be the best to deal with first. The spirit turned it's gaze towards Jade and, noticing the Flygon's wings appeared damaged, cracked an eerie smile. It opened it's mouth and began to let out a soft, almost melodic, sound. The tune was entrancing, almost if-
    Akinai shook her head, trying to clear the sound from her ears. Though the tune seemed off, it was extremely similar to a form of Hypnosis Zen had used before evolving to a Kirlia. If she was correct, all of them would be asleep within a minute.
    “Jade, go with a Sand-Attack! Try to kill that sound,” Akinai shot out, rushing quickly to her pack. She didn't want to risk fainting the Spiritomb, and hopefully a little sand would distract the Ghost-type long enough to throw her second Ball.
    Jade swung her tail to the side, collecting the stray sand that had been kicked up by the earlier Sandstorm. Without looking, she swept the sand straight towards the Spiritomb; the two were still close together, so aiming was hardly a necessity.
    Akinai rapidly went through her pack, pulling out items she didn't need in her rush to find her second Ball. As her hand finally managed to find the sphere, she retrieved it and made her way to the Ghost-type once more. Hopefully this one sticks. Keeping a slightly further distance this time, she threw the Superball at Spiritomb.
