Thread: Main RP: The Great Lakes

IC:

Luvdic had jumped out of water and kissed Trypticon on his jewel. At first I was kind of like 'What the fu-', but then it hit me at what had happened. Luvdisc had confused Trypticon with a Sweet Kiss attack.

"Great." I mumbled. "This was just what I needed." I tried to think of a way for Trypticon to attack without getting confused and accidently hitting himself or anyone else but the Luvdisc. The only thing I could think of was just letting him attack head on. He would have to concentrate hard though in order for him not to hurt himself, or at least not hurt himself a lot. This was a risky plan, but I knew he could do it, if I was lucky enough, his Natural Cure ability would kick in.

"Okay buddy, I want you to concentrate hard on these next two attacks." I called out. "If you don't feel like you can do it, or that you'll get hurt, don't do the attack, I don't want you hurting yourself in this confusion.

Trypticon looked back at me and nodded. Though facial expressions were hard to tell on Starmie, I could see a fierce, determined looked on face. I could see that he wanted to do this, and I knew he did, but whether or not he would hit the Luvdisc was another question.

"Alright then, start us off with a Thunder Wave buddy, then, once it's paralyzed, it'll be easier for you to concentrate on it since it won't be moving much. That's when I want you to hit it with another Thunderbolt.

"STAR!" Trypticon growled. Trypticon's two top corner edges bent forward as they created a ball of blue electricity. He launched the ball at Luvdics, hitting it directly. The Luvdisc struggled to move around, which is was I had planned. Then Trypticon charged another Thunderbolt attack. It wasn't as controlled as the first one, but it was just as powerful. The Thunderbolt hit the Luvdisc, sending many jolts of electricity into its body.

At least that is what I saw in my head. I was pretty positive that if Trypticon managed to hit Luvdisc with Thunder Wave, that it would have a great chance of hitting it with a Thunderbolt.

If this played out well, I could catch the Luvdisc right after this play play went into effect. Whether or not it hit, I was still going to catch it after this. I didn't really want a Luvdisc, but I knew of people who did. Perhaps I could get something good for it. I watched Trypticon as he began to make his move.

He bent his two top front corners and began charging the big blue ball of electricity that would hopefully paralyze the Luvdisc. So far, it was going exactly as I had seen it. I watched and waited to see how it would turn out.

OOC: Finneon is female, please.

"Sure," Cameron responded to my question.

Immediately, a calm washed over me and I felt my focus narrow to the Pokemon before me. Any hint of the humor or borderline insanity that normally haunted my consciousness was gone.

"Ryuu, I know you don't want to, but be careful when you attack her. I don't want you to knock her out. Can you fight with me on your back?"

Ryuu nodded. I tightened my grip on his fin and said, "Use Crunch."

As soon as the words had left my mouth, Ryuu leaped forward, jaws open wide. I struggled not to fall off of him.

OOC: Alaska, your HeartGold LP is amazing. I cried with laughter. Also, please remember that this is a double battle, so any Pokemon can attack any Pokemon.

Man, it wasn't easy keeping an eye on double battles. There were four Pokemon to watch, and when the Trainers attempted combos it got even messier. I suddenly understood how sports referees frequently got neck injuries.

Cameron gave Trypticon some orders that I couldn't hear over the splashing of the waves, but nonetheless the Starmie spun over the waves towards the Starmie, emitting pulses of yellow electricity as it did so.

I tapped my Dusknoir, Specialle's, PokeBall, and she emerged, hovering just over Smash's back so as not to put more weight on him. Smash gurgled a greeting and Specialle crooned a reply. She then raised her hands and pointed them at the Luvdisc, and suddenly psychic barriers formed around it, stopping the electric waves from spreading throughout the lake.

The pulses struck the psychic barrier and fizzled out. When they struck the Luvdisc, however, it kinda somersaulted in the water and spasmed a bit.

Trypticon took this chance to start charging a Thunderbolt. With both Pokemon busy there, I quickly swung my head to look at the other battle.

Ryuu had blasted towards the Finneon, with Alaska hanging on tightly. I was going to tell her to get into the boat, but then I remembered another Trainer I had taken through, who insisted on feeling the pain that his Pokemon felt. So I shook my head and said nothing.

The poor little Finneon didn't have a chance of evading the massive Garchomp. It was quickly enveloped in those massive jaws. When it was released, however, it didn't fight back. It streaked over to Trypticon and jumped out of the water, headbutting it in the centre of its jewel.

This didn't bode well for Trypticon, because just as it was attacked by the Finneon, the Luvdisc used Double Team. It separated into twenty or so copies that all began swimming and circling in different directions. This confused Trypticon even more, but it was just in enough control of itself to abort the attack rather than attempt it. The blue ball above its uppermost tip fizzled out into nothingness.

The Luvdisc had multiplied several times over. I knew it would be too much for Trypticon to handle, he was already confused. Anymore of this and something bad was bound to happen.

"Trypticon, you've done all you can for now, come take a rest buddy." I called out to Trypticon as I helped him onto the boat. "Use Recover." His body started to glow. I grabbed Mindbender's Pokeball and tossed it besides me on the boat.

She looked down at the Luvdics and nodded. I saw her eyes move towards Chainy.

"Is he here?" She asked telepathically as she blushed.

"Probably, they seemed pretty close last time we saw them." I said back. "What I want you to do now is relax. Use Calm Mind. Focus and try to hit the right Luvdics. Hell, if you want, take out all the clones. I think using your Hidden Power attack would work best here. When you think you've found it, let me know so I can throw a Super Ball at it." She nodded and began to concentrate. Her eyes and upper head area were glowing a deep blue color as she scanned the water, observing all of the Luvdisc. She began creating small green orbs that rotated around her body. My eyes began to glow as I was seeing what she saw.

"There!" She said, as she stared at the one she thought was the real one. Since we were seeing the same thing, I saw which one she was looking at. She fired the orbs all over the field, hopefully taking out as many clones as possible and hitting the real one. Once she fired them, I tossed my Superball towards the Luvdisc that Mindbender thought was the real one. I waited to see what would happen.

OOC: Sorry it took so long to update this. Also, I'm glad you like my blog. ^^

Ryuu's jaws closed around the much smaller Finneon. I heard a sickening Crunch and he let her go, but instead of attacking us, she went to help her friend fight Bumbles.

"Let's help them out," I told Ryuu. "You're doing a good job, by the way." I stroked his head gently and he made a soft purring sound in response. "Let's try using Dragon Claw!"

Ryuu's claws began to glow purple as they were surrounded by some sort of energy. Ryuu swiftly swam towards the Finneon.

The Finneon's Secret Power attack had put Trypticon severly off-balance. It wobbled around like a spun disc that was rapidly losing its balance. Cameron saw what was happening and he wisely recalled his Starmie. He summoned his Gardevoir, Mindbender. Like Trypticon, Mindbender had been on Cameron's team last time he had come through the Great Lakes. My Gallade, Dual, had taken a liking to Mindbender and spent practically the whole run showing off.

I scolded myself mentally and wrenched my mind back to the battle. Now wasn't the time to reminisce. Not with four Pokemon all running around fighting each other.

Mindbender had multiple glowing green orbs rotating around her body - I had seen enough Hidden Power attacks that I knew instinctively this one was Grass type. It was a strong choice for taking on the Luvdisc. Or, more accurately, the multiple Luvdisc.

Mindbender launched the spheres in all directions. Each one homed in on a different Luvdisc clone, and when they made contact, they exploded silently, destroying the clones. One of the orbs hit the real Luvdisc, and instead of exploding, it knocked it into the air. The Luvdisc re-entered the lake with a large splash just as Cameron threw a Super Ball at it.

I was impressed with the co-ordination that Cameron showed with his Pokemon. I knew it took work to perfect your timing, and it seemed Cameron had taken lots of time to perfect his.

Unfortunately, he seemed to have already forgotten that he was in a double battle. As soon as he threw the ball, the little Finneon headbutted it away. It flew away from the Luvdisc, and the ball's auto-return protocols activated. It landed firmly back in Cameron's hand.

The Finneon seemed to laugh at Cameron, but Alaska and Ryuu were bearing down fast on it. Ryuu pulled back his right claw, and purple energy gathered around it. When he was right behind the little fish, he swiped it viciously. But before he could do so a second time, the Luvdisc launched a Hydro Pump attack at Ryuu. The huge lance of water knocked Ryuu off balance, sending Alaska flying through the air.

"Catch her, Specialle!" I called, and Specialle lifted her hands towards Alaska. They were surrounded by a dark nimbus - I recognised her Gravity altering abilities and their visual effects.

Before Alaska could hit the water, she suddenly found herself floating in midair. I almost asked Specialle to deposit her in the boat, but I waited. Perhaps she wanted to be put back on Ryuu again.

"Damn, I missed" I grumbled. That Finneon got in my way. I didn't want to attack it because Alaska was battling it, but I couldn't have it getting in my way. I looked at the Finneon. It was obviously moving faster than the Luvdisc since I paralyzed, I was thinking of doing the same to the wild Finneon.

"Mindbender, you're doing excellent. Now I want you to shoot a Thunderwave into the water." I called out. I knew it wouldn't hurt Alaska's Garchomp, which gave me another idea. "After you do that, try shooting a Thunderbolt into the water, that should do some good damage to them." Mindbender nodded as she created a blue ball of electricity and heaved it in between Luvdics and Finneon. Seconds after launching it, she began charging a Thunderbolt attack that she quickly fired.

"This is it." I thought to myself. I pulled out a Parkball this time, aiming it carefully at the Luvdisc. "Mindbender, can you guide the ball with your psychic powers to make sure it his." She nodded as I threw the ball. I waited eagerly to see what was going to happen.

As soon as Ryuu used Dragon Claw on the Finneon, it turned on us and attacked us with an incredibly powerful Hydro Pump. The force of the attack sent me flying through the air. For a moment, I panicked, but quickly overcame my senses and found myself floating in the air. Chainy's Pokemon had caught me. I looked down to make sure Ryuu was okay and breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that he was.

"Can you put me back on Ryuu's back?" I asked. Chainy's Dusknoir carefully lowered me down onto my Garchomp's back. "Thanks," I said. I leaned in close to Ryuu and whispered, "Can you keep battling? I don't think Sparks can swim, but I don't want you to get hurt."

Ryuu nodded ferociously and glared at the Finneon.

"Use Crunch again and try to keep it in your mouth as long as you can or at least stay right alongside it. After you attack it, I'm gonna tap it with this." I pulled a park ball out of my pocket and tightened my grip around it. "Ready?"

Ryuu nodded again and began swimming towards the Finneon so fast, he seemed to be flying. As we approached, I got ready to push the park ball against the Finneon.

"Can you put me back on Ryuu's back?" Alaska asked.

I nodded, and Specialle lowered her back onto the Garchomp. As she did so, her hands began trembling. It was almost unnoticeable, but I'd been training with her for a long time. She had a tendency to overwork herself without saying anything.

"Specialle, take a rest," I said, and she nodded silently before returning herself to her PokeBall. I patted her PokeBall gently, and I could have sworn it vibrated.

I realised that I'd have to keep an eye on Alaska. She seemed to be the type who frequently gets into trouble. I watched as she whispered into Ryuu's ear, and the dragon Pokemon shot off towards the Finneon, who was swimming in circles around the Luvdisc.

Something about the way these two Pokemon protected each other turned on a lightbulb in my mind. They must be related in some way - the Luvdisc was probably the Finneon's father.

Ryuu reached the Finneon and swept it up in his jaws. Instead of biting down hard, though, he held it in his mouth, and Alaska started carefully moving towards it with a Park Ball outstretched in her hand.

I randomly remembered Cameron. I looked back over to him, and I saw Mindbender shoot a Thunder Wave towards the fighters. I didn't have to worry about the other lake inhabitants - Thunder Wave was a weak pulse of electricity, and it'd fade away before reaching any other Pokemon. Apparently Cameron had decided to try and paralyze the Finneon as well. Whether it was to stop the Finneon from interfering with his capture attempt or he was simply trying to help Alaska, I didn't know. But something was wrong.

I realised it as Mindbender started charging a Thunderbolt. Ground type Pokemon weren't immune to electric attacks in water!

Dual had been in near-constant mental contact with me ever since he evolved from a Ralts into a Kirlia. Even when he was inside his PokeBall as he was now, our link meant we were always unconciously sharing thoughts and information. The very millisecond I realised the travesty that was about to happen, Dual exploded out of his PokeBall and he sprinted across the water towards Mindbender, using his telekinetic abilities to literally walk on water.

By now, the Thunder Wave had reached the others. The electric attack passed by the Luvdisc relatively unharmed, as it was already paralyzed. But then the wave reached Ryuu. He growled as the electricity passed through him and into the Finneon. Alaska would also be shocked, but it was nowhere near a lethal ampage.

I wasn't paying attention to her, though. Dual sprinted towards Mindbender, and he was maybe two metres from her when she fired the lance of lightning.

With one last burst of speed, Dual put himself in front of the Thunderbolt. He held out one hand towards the lightning bolt, and the bolt hit the hand. Dual then grimaced, and pointed his other hand up into the sky. The lightning bolt lanced up into the sky and made a cracking thunder-sound before disappearing.

Like before, even though the first part of Mindbender's combo had been messed up, she continued with the second part. A ParkBall streaked towards the Luvdisc, and it was sucked inside with a red flash. The ball floated on the surface of the water as the Luvdisc struggled inside.

I looked back over at Alaska. She had struggled her way to the Finneon, and she gently tapped the little fish with a ParkBall. The fish was sucked into the sphere, and the ParkBall began shaking in her hand.

Half a minute later, at the same time, both spheres stopped shaking, and the pressure button on the front glowed red. Both captures were successful.

OOC: Oi, sorry I took so long. Wasn't really all that busy. Throwing the ball right before the new system comes into play kind of sucks, expecially since now I'll probably have to go on an epic action-packed mini-adventure in order to catch that damn Omanyte since I'm too cheap to buy one from the mart.

Daniel was an okay guy most of the time, but his rage power was equal to that of an atomic bomb. “AGGGGH! Fine! You better run, don’t let me catch you around here again, or it’ll be worse! YEAH! I DIDN’T WANT TO CATCH YOU ANYWAYS! HEY, ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME!? GET BACK HERE AND FIGHT LIKE A MAN, YOU NO GOOD SON OF A-”

Thankfully, a swift slap in the face from Raiguy’s tail was all it took to calm Daniel down. Raiguy rolled his eyes, and then went to chase after the Omanyte. If there was one thing he knew about his trainer, or even humans in general, it was they didn’t mean half the stuff they said when they were angry. He knew Daniel wanted Omanyte for his own, and was determined to help him out.

Raiguy kept on running until he caught up with Omanyte. Rather than attacking, he simply surveyed the area to see if there was something he could use to block the lake so that Omanyte couldn’t escape. It was then when he heard a sound. The sound that a waterfall makes. A sound that was coming from no more than 250 meters away. Quickly, Raiguy ran back to Daniel, jumping and shouting out of panic.

“What is it boy?” said Daniel, “Did Timmy fall down the old well again!? I told him not to mess around near that well, but does he ever listen to me? Then again, they should probably close it off to the public and…hey, my Park Ball!” he said, picking it up.

Raiguy couldn’t spare Daniel the time to translate. He grabbed his leg using some fancy tail action, and then dashed off in the direction of the waterfall using Agility. They were going so fast, Daniel hardly even touched the ground.

They stopped a few dozen meters ahead of Omanyte. “Well, what is it? Not like there’s much we can do to catch it now…is that a waterfall I hear?”

Daniel couldn’t have been more right. A few feet away were raging rapids, followed by a steep drop. “OH GOD! We have to do something!” He looked around desperately and saw a log. He threw it into the lake, but it was devoured by the rushing waters. One more glance around the area revealed a cluster of roots sticking out of the side of the lake. “Raiguy, sorry to do this…”

Daniel then did quite possibly the stupidest thing he had ever done since fishing with dynamite. He grabbed Raiguy by the tail, swung him around like an Olympic hammer thrower, and released him with amazing timing. He went soaring through the air, just as Omanyte was passing by. He wrapped his tail around the shellfish and grabbed the roots. But would he be able to keep his grip on Omanyte, and furthermore, would he be able to keep his grip on the roots? Raiguy tried to turn Omanyte around so he’d swim upstream, but all efforts seemed useless at this point. Omanyte probably thought Raiguy was attacking him. Daniel would too if he hadn’t been there.

Daniel looked around, trying to find a way to save the both of them. The river wasn’t narrow enough for him to jump or reach across, and all he could find was a stick that wasn’t long enough to grab them. Just then, he had an idea. He took off his shirt, pants and socks, tying them together to create a rope. He then made a fishing-rod like contraption out of that and the stick. “Good thing I decided to wear boxers today.”

A teenage boy attempting to fish with a rod made of his own clothes wearing nothing but underwear and glasses wasn’t something you’d see every day, and the ranger probably thought Daniel was crazy. Heck, even HE thought he was crazy! He’d endangered the life of his somewhat-loyal partner, nearly killed an innocent Pokémon bystander, and was standing half naked in the middle of the national park! He thrust the fishing rod foreword, and just in time too.

Raiguy’s arms were about to give way when he caught one of his master’s sweaty socks in his mouth.

“Now THIS is what I call fishing!” said Daniel, attempting to pull them in.

"Great job Mindbender, that was a great performance!" I called out happily as the Luvdisc floated in the water. She hugged me and sat in the back of the boat. I pulled out her Pokeball and walked over to her.

"You want to go back in or stay out?" I asked. I figured she would want to rest inside her Pokeball, but then realized that she could do the same without being in it.

"No, I want to stay out, regardless of whether I battle or not, its quite relaxing." I nodded in agreement, and with that, I tossed Trypticon's Pokeball into the water as the Starfish Pokemon happily swam around the boat. I knew he'd want to swim around in this lake, and plus, he deserved it for helping me with that battle. I sat down on the boat next to Shadow. "Great way to start off this trip right?" I said as I patted his head. He nodded happily, but I could see that he was still a bit nervous. "It's okay, you'll get used to it soon enough, hell, you could even like it despite being a fire type and all. Who knows." He raised his left eye brow and shook his head.

"Here, I'll fix this." Mindbender said as she snapped her fingers.

"I don't think I'll get used to it anytime soon." Shadow said telepathically. He sounded a bit uneasy. "It's just not my thing."

"Yeah, I guess not, but you still never know." I said. I didn't want to pressure him in doing something he didn't want to do, but I wanted him to get over his fear of the water.I knew this probably wouldn't happen on this trip, but I was hopeful. I knew that sooner or later he would get over that fear.

I looked over the lake, it was pretty calm right now which I liked. I wondered about how many water Pokemon were in this lake, floating just underneath us. There were so many great Water Pokemon here, but finding the right ones was going to be the hard part. Right now, the only thing I wanted was a Slowpoke, Horsea, or Clamperl, but there were others that I would try and catch if they came my way. What I would do with them is another story. Nonetheless, I'd take care of them at least, or give them to people that I know will. What sucked was that I could only take three Pokemon, I guess it was just a selfish thought, but any Pokemon collector like myself would want more and more Pokemon. Even though I had a lot, I still cared for each one of them and spent time a lot of time with each of them.

I thought about the battle I was just in and realized that I needed to work better with Alaska and have better communication skills so that we could easily catch the Pokemon next time one came around. If not, I could hurt her Pokemon, and that's the last thing I wanted to do. Maybe Mindbender could let me communicate with her telepathically during the next battle so that we can easily tell what the other is doing and be prepared for it.

"Maybe we should try the shoreline?" I called out to Alaska and Chainy. I didn't know what was over there, but I hoped it would be something interesting. I wanted to find something big, just not big like that Kingdra we encountered in my previous park trip.

Apparently my Trainer was a hyperactive one. The Omanyte was trying to flee, so the Trainer flung his Raichu at the Omanyte, and then the Raichu steered it back to land. The Trainer quickly constructed a fishing rod out of his clothes and reeled the Raichu in.

I rubbed my eyes, just to make sure what I was seeing was actually happening. But apparently it was. I sighed, mentally preparing myself for one of the weirder runs I've been on.

Raichu beached the Omanyte and jumped back onto the beach. It started yapping proudly at its Trainer and pointing at the Omanyte, as if to draw attention to his feat.

The Raichu's victory was cut short by the Omanyte shooting a giant Hydro Pump at the electric mouse.

Daniel seemed to notice the Hydro Pump attack before Raiguy. "YOU GOTTA DODGE, RAIGUY!" he screamed, putting his shirt back on.

Raiguy must've heard this, since he immediately stepped to the side, leaning into the Hydro Pump ever so slightly to take a refreshing drink of water.

If only Daniel had been so fast as to avoid the attack. He was drenched by the Hydro Pump, not to mention knocked right over. Had he not been at such a far distance, he would’ve sustained major injuries. Knocked over… he thought, Maybe I should give ol’ Omanyte here a taste of its own medicine…

"Use Quick Attack on Omanyte's side to knock it over! There's not much it can do if it can't get up!" Daniel commanded.

Raiguy disappeared in the blink of an eye, reappearing only to make contact with Omanyte’s side.

“Now, jump onto Omanyte!” Daniel yelled, “Make sure it can’t get up!” Some might’ve called this playing dirty, but Daniel wasn’t about to let this pristine fossilized beauty get away from him.

"Finally Raiguy, use Sweet Kiss! That way she won't know WHAT it's doing, which might make it easier to catch."

At first Raiguy was hesitant, because really, who wants to kiss a snail, but then he remembered that he wouldn't actually have to make lip contact. He blew a kiss in its direction.

Raiguy stepped to the left, avoiding the Hydro Pump. Cheekily, he put his head in just far enough to take a drink. It was a risky maneuver - he could easily be knocked backwards by the powerful stream of water.

"Use Quick Attack on Omanyte's side to knock it over! There's not much it can do if it can't get up!" Daniel called.

Raiguy blurred into action, turning into an orange streak. He smacked into the Omanyte, pushing it over.

"Now, jump onto Omanyte! Make sure it can't get up!" Daniel yelled. He then commanded a Sweet Kiss.

The Raichu jumped up on top of the Omanyte, pinning it with his not inconsiderable bulk. As he secured the Omanyte, he blew a kiss at the Omanyte. The Omanyte seemed a little confused. Rather than try to attack, she withdrew into her shell, protecting herself from attack.

"Alright Raichu, good job!” Daniel said, pumping his fist in the air, “Now, use Charm, this battle has gone on WAY to long…”

Raiguy got up off Omanyte, bowing its head. It apologized in Pokémon language and asked it it would be ever so kind to forgive him for his awful behavior. He told the snail Pokémon that he no longer wished to fight with her anymore, and thought it was best if they went their separate ways. He asked for forgiveness for all the wrongs he committed, putting Omanyte through all that strife.

Raiguy began to walk away, hoping that Omanyte wouldn’t come looking for revenge, wishing he could have just KO'd the thing and be rid of it.

Daniel followed. “C’mon, ranger guy!” he said, putting his clothes back on, “My name’s Daniel, and you are? If there's a dresscode or something here, I'll put my clothes back on.”

Daniel slipped back into his shirt, pants, socks and shoes, and kept walking.
