"What the..." Calvin said. "How did you know what that was?"

"I heard her." Annie said simply, "It's fguzzy and I don't get much, but I could tell she was here." She knelt, down and stroked the crying infant's arm. "Shh, shh, quiet-down." And, amazingly, the girl stopped, though she was still whimpering.

"Go get her cleaned up." Calvin said. "The lake is over there." He cocked his M9. "I'm gonna go see where this baby came from."

"Okay, Daddy." Annie replied blithley, carrying the baby over to the lake, with Maya following her.

Calvin went into the bushes, listening and looking out for anything out of the ordinary.

Mina flew-around, keeping watch.

"Hello? Anybody here?" Calvin called, keeping his eyes and ears feeling for anything.

Camille grinned a particularly evil grin.

I don't hear anything different. Annie told him, I don't think her Mama's here. Or if she is, she's dead.

Right. Thank you. Calvin replied. Hey, do me a favor and send Shiny to scout for her. I don't smell any dead bodies in the area.

'Kay. Annie replied, doing as she was told, unlike her mother, most of the time.

You're a good girl, you know that? Calvin asked warmly, sending his own Emolga to help scout.

Annie smiled. The whitecoats seemed to like me. Sometimes. She shivered a little, and Maya -who could hear the whole thing, duh- rubbed her back gentely.

Sorry for bringing that up. Go back to your task. Calvin replied, falling silent afterwards. He jkept going through the forest, keeping an eye on the Emolga overhead.

"You know, I haven't forgotten what you did to me." Camille said with an evil grin.

Don't worry. Annie replied, wrapping the baby in the first usuable thing she saw- an abnormially-large leaf.

Maya had to cover her mouth to supress her amusement. Only our child. She thought to Calvin, laughing mentally. (She was careful to shield herself from Annie)

Please. I am trying to stay focused. Calvin replied.
