Midori sighed and closed the book. None of this made sense.
She picked up the book and stepped back a few steps, examining both the paths. The dark, sweet-smelling forest did look more inviting compared to the bloodstained dead trees. However, who knew, there could always be something to attack her lurking in the shadows... not to mention, you never knew, the flowers could be poisonous.
The blood stains on the other side clearly demonstrated there was... something down the road. But at least she knew that something was there, and would be prepared if it came after her.
She looked at the two objects in her hands, Shooter's headband and Joey's book. If this whole thing was a hallucination, induced by the headmaster to gauge her intelligence... then in theory, nothing could hurt her anyway. But she'd better not assume that, it was too big of a risk to take, not to mention arrogant. Was it arrogant to think that she could beat whatever had left those bloodstains all over the dead trees? Was it arrogant to think she could manage to defend herself in the dark? She wasn't sure.
She let out a sigh and tied Shooter's headband around her nose and mouth, in case the scent from the flowers were somehow poisonous. Keeping the book clutched in her hands to defend herself with, she stepped uncertainly towards the dark forest.
