"Well, uh... let's go!" Jenny said, trying to sound more enthusiastic than she really was at the moment. She was curious, yes, but this place gave her the creeps. It was so... dark.
She hesitated, waiting for someone else to make the first step.
"R-right!" Jacob took that first step, casting his eyes around in a paranoid way. Indeed, the scenery grew dark surprisingly quickly, not one hundred metres into the forest, as the canopy of the trees grew thick at a similar rate, due to the sheer number of trees and plantlife.
Roy grew wary as he followed after Jacob; it was likely that some Grass-type Pokémon lived here.
Jenny walked along after them, glancing from side to side nervously. What if we get into a battle with some hostile pokemon? I don't have much battle experience at all! She thought. Plus, I bet this place is full of grass types! We're all weak to grass types!! She began to wonder if this was really such a good idea after all.
Jacob tried not to let his slight fear show, and tried to calm his breathing. After all, he reasoned to himself, they weren't hostile...they could run away if they got into trouble...nobody had a reason to hurt them...right?
Roy showed absolutely no signs of fear, but he was secretly nervous inside.
"This is exciting..." Jenny broke the silence with a tiny whisper. "I've never been so far into the fore- no, in fact, I've never been in here at all." She faked a smile.
"Me neither," Jacob agreed, also speaking quietly. "It's...fun...right? ...Ah!"
He gave a restrained start as he thought he saw a figure dash past, through the bushes, a little way behind them. By the time he was able to look again, though, there was no sign that anyone had been there, apart from the Oshawott himself and his friends.
Roy gave Jacob a questioning look.
Jenny, who had jumped at her Jacob's startled shout, also looked at him confusedly. "Wha... What was that?" She whispered. He'd better not just be trying to scare us!... No, he wouldn't do that.
"I..." He tried to calm his nerves. "I thought I saw someone following us...that's all. I'm just, uh, edgy because...uh...I'm excited!" It would not take a genius to work out that, by that, he was trying to deny that he was more than a little bit afraid.
Roy sarcastically nodded his head.
"Mm-hm." Jenny said, turning to look in the direction where Jacob had been looking when he had thought he had seen 'someone following them.' She was at this point having trouble maintaining a calm expression. Hey. Pokemon live here. she told herself. We're just taking a walk. What's there to be afraid of? I bet it was nothing... and if it was, then they're probably friendly. "So... what do you think you saw?"
"I...don't know; I didn't get a good look. B-but they were pretty fast."
Roy appeared to think about this. Who was it that Jacob saw...?
