"Good idea! Yes, your help would be great! They aren't nocturnal or anything, right?"
"We, uh, don't know. But we've never seen it around late at night."
"...'We' who?" Jacob asked, and the Fennekin nodded to her right. Just outside of the group's collective field of attention, against the wall of the basement, a Froakie and a Chespin were lying, asleep.
"The teammates and me."
"Right." The Fennekin hesitated. "I didn't catch your names, though."
"Oh, yeah...How rude of us. I'm Jacob, that's my brother Derek, and these are our friends Max, Jenny and Roza."
"Roza speaks not often," Derek added. "And also is Max ein Bisschen depressing."
"Um...okay. Well, call me San. And these two are Jeden and Eradu, or 'Era' for short," the Fennekin replied, indicating the Froakie and the Chespin respectively, nudging them both with a small amount of force, to wake them up.
"Likewise, I guess," San said without looking at them as her comrades woke up.
Jeden, the Froakie, eyed her warily for a moment, before San gave him and Era a brief summary of what had just transpired. Despite having just woken up, they seemed to understand fairly well; well enough, at any rate, to agree with their plans.
"I think we should wait, for now. Maybe we'll think of something," Jacob said, though he lacked enough conviction to make it sound like a concrete decision.
Roza nodded; that seemed like a good idea.
From one of my many conversations with That Guy:
"OOOOHHHHHHHH MARIE HAD A LITTLE LAMB—*ding* Good morning!"
"Okay," Jenny replied. She sat down and after a short while, she was wondering what would happen and exactly what this non-pokemon was. And was it evil? Or hypnotized? Or thinking it was doing something right? Or was she thinking about this the wrong way? If I am, I don't know any 'right' way to think about it.
Jacob sat down to think, though he couldn't bring anything to mind.
Jeden spoke up, at last, if only to give voice to a fragment of what he was thinking.
"As I understand it, I don't think...Hmm..."
"Go on," San prompted. "Not all of us can hear what you're thinking."
"That thing's what the non-Pokémon uses to collect us. He's got one already, so maybe..." It became apparent that a character flaw of this Froakie was his tendency to be vague and dip in and out of thinking aloud. "I don't think you can be caught if you've been caught before. I think. Does that...Is that..?"
"I guess that makes sense," Jacob said, trying to encourage Jeden.
