Megan had also dodged out of the way, and picked Jake's Chao up, giving it a soft pat on the head to calm it down, not paying attention to its colour or form at all.
Jake's Chao formed a heart over its head.
Jake countered Chase's attack with a running overhead slash.
He blocked with one sword, but he didn't angle it properly, and Jake's attack connected.
Jake followed this up with a slash at a different angle.
He was struck by this attack, too, but then he vanished, teleporting away from them.
"You know what? Forget this! I'll kill you some other time, Jackie, and next time you won't be so lucky!" With that, Chase teleported somewhere outside of this room, fleeing.
Jake sighed, putting away his laser sword. He then realized his pocket felt lighter for some reason.
“Wait, where's my Chao?” he asked.
"Over here," Megan said, patting the Chao's head again, to keep it happy.
Another heart formed over its head. Jake walked over and took the Chao from Megan. The Chao then started to reach towards the ground; it probably wanted to be put down.
Megan watched it, considering how cute it was, but not saying anything.
Seeing this, Jake put the Chao down. It walked a small distance away, then formed a cyan cocoon over itself; it was evolving for the first time.
Megan put her hands together and inclined her head.
"Sooo cute..." she mumbled to herself.
When the cocoon faded away, the Chao had become a Dark Power Chao, with red stripes around its hands and the back of its head. It gave a jagged grin.
“Huh? Why's it a Dark Chao?” Jake asked, confused.
"Who cares? It's adorable!" Megan clearly wasn't thinking too hard about the Chao's new form.
“I thought that Chao was getting darker,” Travis said, holding the green Chaos Emerald that Chase had dropped. A white circle of light had appeared on the floor while the Chao was evolving.
Megan picked the Chao up, and started heading for the light.
