Thread: For Science! (Sign-Ups)

Overview
It was just a normal night in the town of Kingville, Nevada. Then, there was a bright flash of light. It woke everyone up. The newspeople said it was just a meteor. But then strange things started happening. People have started disappearing off the streets, and bizarre crimes have started taking place. Gangs have started wielding distintegrator rays, and the stray cats have started being replaced with bizarre abominations.

You, meanwhile, have been changing as well. You've gained the ability to comprehend and create technology no man should be able to make. You arrive at Che Guevara High school to find that one of your teachers has been replaced, and everyone seems to think the new one, Mr. Larson, was always there. After class, he suggests that you join the science club he's created, with a cryptic statement that he knows what's going on.

Gameplay

In this RP, your character is a Genius, a person who can create technology far beyond what most people can. There are actually a large amount of them, even before the meteor crashed. It simply caused a bunch of them somehow.

Most geniuses are members of The Institution. This is a large, though very loose organization of Geniuses. It's composed of many different groups, of which the science club is one of them. The Institution can be used to find work, and they have conventions once a year. They maintain many websites for sharing research as well. Finally, they help keep the fact that Geniuses exist under wraps.

Geniuses are capable of creating technology far beyond what most people can comprehend. These are simply called Inventions. The capital I is necessary. Inventions can be anything from plant people to ray guns to giant robots.

Inventions work well for Geniuses, but simply won't function for mortals. As such, it's difficult to make money off of them. Your character will need some way to gather resources. The science club can offer some, but only what you'd expect a high-school to have. The rest, you'll have to get yourself.

On the nature of the science club: As part of The Institute, it gives members access to research data and other research. On the other hand, it's members are occasionally required to go on missions. These usually involve stopping rogue Geniuses, who use their powers to commit crimes, kill people, eat puppies, and steal from vending machines.

Rules:

-No godmodding.
-As far as what you create, feel free to use your own discretion, as long as it's not too OP. Also, try not to make too many. And I'd suggest updating your sign-up with things you make, for simplicity's sake.
-As far as violence goes, anything short of graphic disembowelment is okay.
-Swearing's fine too.

Sign-Ups

Name: What do people call your character?

Age: Since the characters are highschool students, 14-18 is ideal.

Gender: Man, woman, or hermaphrodite.

Sexuality: Gay, bi, straight, anything that moves, whatever.

Appearance: What does your character look like?

Likes: What do they like?
Dislikes: Dislike?

Family: List their immediate relatives and maybe a little information on each one.

History: What's your character's past? Since the characters are pretty young, this doesn't have to be long.

Aesthetic: Just a short description of what your character's inventions tend to look like.
Specialty: What do your characters inventions tend to do? Do they make giant insects, or maybe they have an obsession with lasers that control plants?

Inventions: Give a list of the creations your characters starts with. Around 3 or 4 is a good number.

Other Skills: Any non-scientific hobbies they enjoy? Any abilities that don't really fit in the tech sector? Put 'em here.

Name: Ethan Nimdok

Likes: Stuffed animals, cake, phones, having tea parties with phones, cake, and stuffed animals, his parents.

Family: His mother, Silvia Nimdok, who is an optometrist
His mother, Craig Nimdok, who works at the telephone company and shares Ethan's obsession with phones.
His little sister, Polly Nimdok, who is a freshman at Che Guevara High School.

History: Ethan is somewhat sheltered: He was home schooled his entire life. He only recently started attending Che Guevara High School. After the meteor hit, he realized that he could comprehend principles no other person could comprehend: He knew how to get into any computer system, and everything about phones. He joined the science club after the new teacher suggested it to him.

Aesthetic: Ethan's creations are pretty much all made of phone parts, mostly from the late 90s.
Specialty: Most of his inventions have something to do with phones, whether it's gathering information or blasting enemy ears.

Inventions:
The iScan: These goggles, with a press of a button on the wrist terminal that comes with them, analyze any technology that is in their field of vision, then displays them on the wrist-mounted screen. Some technologies can be protected against such probing, but most can't. The goggles are somewhat bulky, with very large beige rims, with an elastic strap to keep it attached to the user's head. The controller terminal has a shiny metal wrist, with numerous buttons below a green screen.
Wearing it also makes the user immune to being sued by Apple.

Alexander: Ethan's cell phone. It looks like an older cell-phone, from maybe the late 90s. In reality, it far outclasses any smartphone. It always has perfect reception and service, and can connect to the internet anywhere. Further, when hooked up to any computer with a USB drive, it can access any computer or machine connected to that one in any way, whether through the internet or LAN. Using this, it can intercept e-mails or take files from almost any computer.

BioScan: This glove works similarly to the iScan. However, instead of scanning technology, it scans living creatures. It can determine the species name of almost any creature it's pointed at. For organic inventions created by a genius, it can determine their powers. It can also determine if a genius has modified his or her body, and what the properties of those modifications are.

Other Skills: Ethan can get almost unlimited amounts of phone parts from his house.

Name: Dennis Tyler

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Straight

Appearance: Dennis has spiky brown hair about an inch long and golden eyes. He is somewhat pale, has a few freckles here and there across his face and has a noticeable cleft chin. He almost always wears his gold rimmed aviators and will be seen with a candy cigarette in his mouth at all times. He wears a plain black t-shirt and common dark blue jeans. He always wears his black converses and is never without his dog tag.

Likes: Candy Cigarettes, sunglasses, dogs, power, gold, power, money, power, meat
Dislikes: Weakness, game meat, cats, sugar free candy, aspartame, sucralose

Family:James Tyler (father) - Famous War hero, carried twenty seven wounded soldiers back to base all at once. Now has a cooking show specifically for meat that he hunts himself.
Lily Tyler (mother) - CEO of a large company. She herself doesn't even know what the company does, she's only aware that she is rich because of it.
Napoleon Tyler (younger brother) - Currently in military school.
Robert E. Tyler (older brother) - After military training he disowned his family.
Joan Tyler (older sister) - Joined the FBI only to receive an unexpected burn notice the next year.

History: Dennis grew up a spoiled rich kid. Out of his siblings he was the only one to not go to military school. He liked his current spot in his school's hierarchy, the top. He refused to transfer. In school he had most of his classmates as essentially minions. He whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, but everything changed when the Fire Nation Attacked. They were a rival company to his mother's and they bought out the current HQ. They had to move so his mother could keep her job. He began to attend Che Guevara, but lost all of his power with the move. He became just an average kid; however when the meteors hit he became far more than average and joined the Science Club.

Aesthetic: Dennis's inventions tend to be gold plated. Do to his family's wealth he always has plenty of gold to do so, but should he run out he has a large supply of gold spray paint in his closet.
Specialty: Dennis's inventions mostly have to do with power over others. Due to his low amount of influence over his current classmates, he has turned to other means of leadership.

Inventions:
Nano Minions - An army of miniature robots most averaging around two inches tall. They respond to voice command, but only to what they recognize as Dennis's. Most are humanoid in form, but there are also several custom designed for specific purposes. Due to their small stature, they are incredibly fragile and should one be stepped on or dropped it will almost definitely break. No matter their purpose each one is white with gold designs, mostly around the joints.

Minionizer - A ray gun which brainwashes whoever is shot with it. They become just as mindless as the Nanos and only do what they're told to. The effects are anything but permanent, so use can be dangerous if Dennis does not notice them beginning to regain consciousness. The smarter the being the gun is used upon the faster the effects will ware off. It is completely ineffective against other geniuses due to their large brain capacity.

Midas Glove - A glove that like the mythological figure Midas, changes things to gold. It alters the atoms of an object, adding or removing subatomic particles. It is entirely useless on anything that is or was living due to their complex atomic make up. It appears to be a robotic hand and it itself is made out of gold. The inner workings are constructed from unalterable materials so that it doesn't change itself completely to gold rendering it useless.

Other Skills: Dennis is a great shot with all firearms and has received limited military training from his father.

History: Reece got disowned by his family when he was a young boy, and moved in with his grandma. He dotted between jobs, always feeling that he was meant for a greater purpose. His grandma died, and as such, he packed his bags and jumped on the first flight he could... Nevada..

Aesthetic: Reece is a bit of a brute... He likes force, and alien technology...

Specialty: Reece is learning to creat fire... Due to an implant in his wrist that he built...

Inventions: 1)Implant in left wrist to create fire, still learning to control it.
2) Asthetic: allows him to emit an eerie glow from himself to unnerve others
3) In the process of creating a super secret Invention... has been working on it for months

Other Skills: Reece is good at playing the guitar, and Loves paintballing...

Name: Karina "Pixie" Majors

Sexuality: Straight

Appearance: Karina is short and petite, just barely five feet tall. She has dark red hair in a choppy pixie cut and hazel eyes. She's pale with a smattering of freckles and tends to dress in clothes that hide her small frame. Her clothes are often flecked with paint or something similar.

Likes: Art, cooking, conspiracy theories, UFOs, the paranormal, cryptids, urban legends, hauntings, jazz music

Dislikes: Skeptics, hoaxes, the cold, the era of art that produced Pablo Picasso

Family: Lieutenant Colonel Roger Majors (grandfather), a Vietnam veteran who swears that part of his company was abducted by aliens. He's been a "professional" UFO-chaser and expert on the paranormal since the seventies.
Emily Majors (grandmother), owner of a local cafe called The Atmosphere (Roger wanted to name it The Cafe Where We Know the Truth but had to compromise). She doesn't share her husband and granddaughter's belief in the paranormal.
Bradley Majors (father), a journalist. He and his wife disappeared on a trip to Europe several years ago. His father maintains that they were abducted by aliens or government officials who want to cover up the existence of aliens.
Lauren West-Majors (mother), a professional photographer.

History: Karina (who prefers to be called by her nickname, Pixie) spent most of her childhood with her grandparents while her parents traveled. She picked up her grandfather's love of all things paranormal and his stubborn attitude that anyone who argues against them is either deluded or lying. Her father Bradley never shared Roger's views and was understandably dismayed by his daughter's belief in the paranormal, which caused more than a few arguments with Roger. When her parents disappeared, Pixie's grandparents gained full custody of her and she started attending Che Guevara High School and joined the Science Club.

Pixie is energetic and friendly, but she can be scarily intense when discussing so-called paranormal events and conspiracies. She is equally fanatical about her art and can spend hours at a time in her loft painting and sculpting. She's something of a space case and will often show up late to class and splattered in paint (or mud, if she was out hunting ghosts or something).

Aesthetic: Pixie's Inventions tend to appear either as delicate pieces of modern art or something that would only be collected by hardcore sci-fi fans. Their appearance rarely gives a clue as to their actual function.

Specialty: Her inventions often help her in getting into places she normally doesn't belong, whether it keeps her from being noticed or lets her look into someone else's mind.

Inventions: SETI - Pixie's "assistant". It looks like an expensive remote-controlled flying saucer toy, but it hovers on its own and beeps and whirs in response to being talked to. It can shrink nonliving items down and store them, and also functions as a portable computer. Somehow functions as a voice of reason in comparison to Pixie.

Spock - An Invention resembling a sculpture made from an old radio, with various curling "antennae" branching out from it. It can tune into any radio frequency in the area, even encrypted ones. Its signal is almost undetectable but can be jammed.

Da Vinci - A futuristic pair of headphones that can tap into a person's subconscious and cause them to create astonishing works of art that reflect their hidden thoughts. It doesn't work on Geniuses.

Roswell Pajamas - A bodysuit made from a reflective, metallic material. It resembles a pair of footie pajamas. It renders the wearer invisible to all surveillance equipment and seems to make them harder to notice in person.

Other Skills: In addition to art and the paranormal, Pixie is an excellent cook. She feels certain that if she tried, she could Invent curry that would actually make people breathe fire, but her grandparents have tried to convince her that this wouldn't really be a good Invention.

Name: Eve Nano

Appearance:

Eve is an albino, so her hair is pure white, she has purple eyes, and her skin is very pale. She is short at 5’1’’ and weighs 110lbs. Her hair reaches to her waist if it is straightened, but usually ends a little pass her mid-back due to her hair being naturally wavy. When going out she prefers to where her hair in a low ponytail, that sometimes looks like it was curled. She usually wears blue jeans, a t-shirt, a hoodie, and sneakers.

Likes: Reading, steak, robots, animals, fruit, pacing, having fun.
Dislikes:Peas, standing still, those who think they're better than others, cherries, being short.

Family:

Claurice Nano-her mother is a stylist and worries over Eve for everything, usually trying to get her to take pepperspray with her.
Steven Nano-her father a tile contractor. He is over-protective of her more in the social area with guys.
Sake Nano-one of her brothers. He doesn't like the idea of any bou being close to Eve, but spends a lot of time with Eve. Is 18
Edward Nano-her eldest brother. Doesn't over protect Eve. Away at college, but calls to talk to the family.

History:

Eve is the youngest of three children the other two being boys. When she was born and the doctor told her parents that she was albino they freaked and did research only calming down when they saw it wasn’t really life threatening. As a baby she had chronic bronchitis worrying her parents, though it was cured. Around three years old she was diagnosed with asthma and has always had her inhaler on her since no matter where she is. Growing up as a result of her albinism and asthma her parents worried over every little thing she did. As she grew up and they realized her diseases weren't as serious as they thought they calmed down, some.

Aesthetic: Animals, bugs, creatures

Specialty: Eve specializes in robots of all sizes. She uses whatever items she can find.

Inventions:

"Clackl" Cleaner 3000-her third model of a robot that cleans. It likes to clean, but it also treated as a human at the same time because Eve made him that way. He likes to be called Clackl. Eve's only human shaped invention.

Opal-The family's robotic cat made from junk around the house. She is very friendly, but has no way of hearing so the family doesn't let her outside.

Silver-made from special metal her father got her as a gift Silver follows Eve around in multiple forms from a backpack to a small dragon. She constantly is working on him editing his functions.

Other Skills:Her family goes to the junkyard for parts for her inventions, or get them from clients at their works.
