"So who can tell me what a Champion's purpose is after what I've told you?" Joshua asked after turning around to look at the class.
"I'm supposing they are the last line of defense against crime?" Camille said, more as a question.
Ricky just continued working on his sketch, adding more detail on the skaters and on the skate park they were skating in.
"Ricky what do you think?" Joshua asked after turning to look at Ricky with a smile.
Ricky thought it over for a minute. "Champions eh... well, to be honest, I don't see their role as that important any more." He said quietly. "They're just famous people who happen to be really good trainers... and like any other celebrity with power and money... they well... they say absolute power corrupts absolutely. Probably no different for champions... They've all got secrets to confess to most likely."
"Not necessarily," Adam said from his seat, disagreeing with Ricky.
"Champions aren't like actors or others though," Joshua said while raising his finger. "Champions like Camille said have the duty to protect the region they have been assigned and if any danger that has been deemed as dangerous to the region occurs they will be dispatch," Joshua explained. "An example of this would be the multiple evil teams that appeared a few years back every time one of them appeared a champion was assigned to take care of it in whatever way they could. But no Champions haven't lost their importance the reason is that aside from their battling feats anything else is hidden from the public why you might ask?"
"Fear," Adam pointed out from his seat. "If trainers knew from the beginning what a Champion's real job was they would be afraid and wouldn't even try to compete and take the title."
"Anyway. Moving on from that," Joshua turned back to the board and began writing. "For your homework you'll have till friday to do a report on any Elite 4 member or champion you want and read it in class," Joshua explained. "Also bring your Pokemon on friday I will pick some of you to have sparring matches."
Ricky wasn't buying Adam or Joshua's insistence that the champions were paragons of virtue. With the money and fame they all had... he doubted that they were perfect people. He didn't bother saying so though because he knew his opinion was outnumbered in the class.
"However like Ricky said Champions themselves have secrets they are people just like us after all," Joshua sighed while rubbing the back of his head. "Holy crap I wrote too much," he raised an eyebrow.
"He just noticed," Maria whined; she feeling like her hand was about to fall off.
"Likewise." Alma said with an annoyed tone, rubbing her sore hand, hoping she didn't get carpel tunnel from the mass cram writing she had to do. While she had known the phrase "power corrupts, but absolute power always corrupt" and has also followed the cynical teachings of Niccolò Machiavelli, she has believed at least two Champions that fought for Trainers, but even then, all members of the Elite Four have a habit of appearing and disappearing like shadows.
Ricky finished off his sketch with a flourish. He smiled at the work, pleased with how it had turned out.
Matthew set his pencil down, feeling like his hand was about to fall off. Even though he wrote frequently in his books, this was more writing in less time than he had ever done.He turned to Alma and asked "Is it just me or is there something wrong about feeling like my hand is gonna fall off when we're not even in our second class yet?"
Ca;vin and Camille finished writing, and just in time because as soon as they put their pencils down, their hands started cramping. They started massaging their hands in a vain effort to stop the cramping.
Jay had no idea what everyone was complaining about, as he was just fine. Looking through his notebook, he had written every neatly and accordingly, not once complaining about what had to be written.
Adam sighed as he closed his notebook having written only part of what he had wrote on the board. He wasn't one to write his hand off just to get everything, besides with listening and paying attention he would be able to learn it easily.
"I don't think so but we should check just in case," Maria groaned while she massaged her hand.
"Sorry about that guys, I tend to get carried away," Joshua laughed softly while ruffling the back of his head in embarassment.
