    Default Markings:the First Generation

    Background Info and Rules

Soft footsteps passed by her dark cell, another child being escorted down to the lab. That must have been the third one in two weeks. What happened to the last two? Althea never saw them walk by again hours later- if they could walk. Terrel was using more extreme mutations on younger children who couldn't handle it. A shadow fell across Althea's face as she lay on the bed with her feet against the wall.

    "Good morning Althea."
"What do you need now Terrel?" She growled. "I had my tests for this week."
"Oh, I know that dear child. I need to borrow you, if time permits." He smiled slightly as she rolled off the bed and followed him out of the cell, tugging at the metal collar that kept her from using her powers to kill him. He glanced back at her as she shoved her hands into her pockets.
"So...what am I doing this wonderful morning?" They were in front of the conference room, he opened the door for her to go into the display. There were 3 men, all in uniforms. Generals of the Military.
"Major General Bagnall, I'm so glad you decided to pay us a visit. This is our crowning jewel, Althea, experiment 001."
"Well, let's just see what she can do."
"Absolutely. Althea, would you explain your powers to them before we allow you to display them?" He asked.
"Why the hell would I do that? Honestly, I thought you were smarter than that. I'm not going to be a tool for your benefit, if I wanted to show them my powers I'd kill them before I ever-" He pressed a controller that shot electricity throughout her body. She cringed, then fell, barely catching herself. She waited for it to stop before she knelled, looking up at Terrel.
"You need to learn when to obey."
She defiantly stood in protest, "What am I? A dog or a business deal? I can't be both. Make up your mind you fu-" He shocked her again with more than she could handle, sending her seizing crumpling to the floor.

    Now the rebellion begins.

Eliot, on the other hand, is pounding at the walls. He just woke up with no memory fourteem days ago (A side effect of his mutation), and he wanted out. His hands were bloody from attacking the wall nonstop, but he didn't care. His only desire was to keep fighting 'til he got out. He was making impressive headway, having managed to put a small crack in the supposedly shockproof walls. They could retard his pyrokinesis to some extent, but could do nothing about his impressive strength or high threshold of pain. He turns and sees Althea.

"Stop doing that to him! When I get out, I'm gonna tear you apart! Bastards! I'll gouge out your eyes with burnt sticks and shove them down your throats! I'll tear you intestines out and strangle you with them! And then I'll cut your tongues out! And then...Then I'll start to torture you, ya hear?!" He does this everyday. Either he has nerves of steel, or brains of rock. Or both. Either way, he has no fear of the scientists, and ever since he almost made good on many of those same threats on his first day, they try to stay away from him, only testing him with a squad of armed guards, as he would only absorb the energy from a shock collar.

Briar was sitting in her lone cell, chatting with her rat friends. Although they could null her copying abilities, they couldn't null her way with animals. The rats had brought her a small bunch of grapes that she was sharing with them, a reward for being so kind.

"...And then they shot this thing at me, and next thing I knew, I was in here." Briar finished, recalling how she was moved to her cell. The rats clapped and Briar smiled at them, happier by the second. "You guys are the best friends a girl could have, you know?"

Suddenly, Briar heard that guy shouting again. Groaning, she turned towards his cell. "Would you quiet down?! I'm trying to talk in here!" she screamed back, her enhanced senses wincing at the noise. Her rat friends scurried back into their home, taking the rest of the grape bunch with them.

Eliot simply glares, and goes back under his bed, where he keeps and studies the pages he tore from the scientist's books to let his torn knuckles heal a little. He wanted to stop life on the inside from dulling his mind, and is thus studying biology. "Some people just don't want to get involved." He says, replacing the old bandages covering his fists with new ones and reading his books. He then notices Briar and her rats. "Hmm..." He thinks, factoring them into his plans.

"Althea?" A warm voice called, "Althea, wake up."
It was Dr. Geneva Samuels, the one one who gave a rat's ass about Althea's well being. She was the one who named her, practically raised her, and gave her an education.
Althea tucked her arms and legs closer to her body, clutching her throbbing head.
"I had another seizure, didn't I?" She asked.
"Yes you did. Althea, you could become brain damaged and handicapped from it. Don't give them any reason to shock you like that. We never know when it will be too much."
"Ok, fine. I will try to behave... Can I just take my medicine?"
"But you haven't been taking it, Althea. Your levels dropped too low. Now to make sure you take it, I have to give you an injection."
"Whatever, just get it over with." Althea said closing her eyes, maybe if she didn't see it she wouldn't be afraid of it.
"I already did while you were asleep. You're welcome." She smiled at her, pointing out the kid band-aid on her arm. "I have to go now, the little girl they brought in today might survive... I hope she does. I can't see another one die."
"I'm sorry Geneva... Go check on her, I'm fine. Always fine." Althea accepted a brief hug before she left, slipping an ipod into her back pocket before leaving her cell.
Once she was out of site, Althea stood, her legs shaking and took two steps before falling to the floor.
'Dang, that must have been a lot running through my body if I still can't move around.' She thought as she half dragged herself back to her bed. 'it's still early enough for me to go back to sleep. Thank you music...'

OOC: Do they get, like, a recess or something? Or are they just kept in their cells 24/7?

Briar noticed that guy with a bunch of papers, ignoring him for the moment. She crawled over to the rat hole and whispered a few nonsensical things that really just came out. The rats tentatively crawled over to her, squeaking quietly back. Briar smiled at them, happy to have made progress.

"Okay, guys. Bring that blade back; I need to keep sharpening it." Briar whispered, the rats nodding. They dashed back in and came out with the blade, causing Briar to smile again. "Thanks." she whispered, going back to sharpening the blade on a stone that she kept hidden in her bed. The tip was nearly sharp enough, and nearly curved enough. All she needed now was a long stick, and she'd have a naginata. She had only heard about this weapon because one of the rats had seen a book on ancient Japanese weapons, and saw a page before scurrying away. That page was on the Naginata and how to use it.

Inspired, she got the rats to get her a blade and started sharpening it right away. And since then, she's made wonderful progress. It will be one of her main weapons when she busts out of the place.

OOC: Sorry for the late post, and I won't be here tomorrow (Friday) to Monday (Australia time) going to my cousins, if any major plot stuff happens like a getaway then Shin just take control of my character until I get back alright?

Jade sat in the cells barely listening to the male shouting or the girl in the next cell. She spent most of her days like this, staring into space hoping her mind would figure out a way to get out, she needed to escaped there had to be another world out there and it had to be better then this one, a beautiful world.

"Someday I will escape" Jade whispered as she held up her hands, fire surrounded her right hand and ice on her left. She didn't know how she or anyone would escape, but she had to and find a way to stop her death after turning 22.

OOC: How do restroom breaks work? And what are the vents like? Are they hanging/protruding from the ceiling, or attached to the walls?

Discovering he had finished all his papers, he takes off his shoes, sits on his bed, and begins to meditate, the concept being one of his retained memories. While he lost almost all memories of moments (e.g. His first birthday party, playing video games) he still remembers concepts (E.G. How to read, algebra, etc.)

Mariari was laying down on the cold floor of her cell, she was used to it, but she didn't like it. Her most prized doll and best friend, Shanghai flew circles in front of her, trying to entertain her master, though this only puts Mariari at higher risk of being caught.

Mariari held her palm in front of her doll, motioning her to stop before anyone sees, and Shanghai fell to the ground as if she was lifeless all along, Mariari caught her and held her close to her chest, the young blonde looked upon the others in their own cells, looking to see if anyone noticed.

She then heard a person pounding on the walls and yelling, it wasn't too far away from where she was, and the voice seemed like a male. Usually, Mariari would listen in on what most of the others are saying, but she decided to ignore it after it calmed down. She continued to lay down and play around with her seemingly lifeless doll.

In a cell across the hall from Mariari, Juliet walked back to his bed as soon as the girl checked to see if anyone noticed that she abused her power. Juliet had noticed, but he was surely having no thought of telling authorities. He himself was toying with the power provided through mutation himself. He had returned to the sink in his cell, watching as blood slowly flowed into the drain. Though his metal collar retarded his telekinetic abilities, Juliet's heart had already been adapted for the loss of countless amounts of blood. Though it has been a casual sight throughout his entire life, watching himself endlessly bleed out of the multiple scars on his hands never ceased to amaze Juliet. He had the power to survive what takes the lives of millions of people daily, and he utilizes it without hardly making any attempt.

Juliet stopped when he heard the door open from behind, stopping the blood from moving past the open cuts on the back of his hands before placing them in his pockets. Juliet was relieved to turn and find Dr. Richeson walking through the door however. "Sorry if I bothered you, Juliet. Your jacket is done being washed. I might be busy on the fourth too, so I came to say happy birthday." Juliet accepted his jacket from the doctor before putting it back on. Even in the cell heated specifically for him, Juliet always felt reminded of how cold he was. "Thanks, dad," Juliet replied, "but it doesn't matter if you remember my birthday or not. All it means is that I'm a year closer to dying. Nothing special." Ignoring Juliet's cynical comments, Richeson proceeded to make his point. "Even so, I thought the suprise I had in store would interest you. There's a General of some sort comming to evaluate the children's abilities today." Juliet felt a mild degree of pleasant suprise at the news. Nearly anything with relation to a military force interested Juliet, and, unlike Althea, the idea that he may have the opportunity to impress the General of some kind of army was gold to him. "A General wants me," he asked Richeson. "He might. All I wanted was to make sure you are ready and on your best behavior," the doctor answered as he handed Juliet his fingerless black and white baseball gloves. Juliet looked down at the black mark, mostly hidden by his jacket, that ended at the top of his hand. He had always wanted his inhuman life to yield results that he wanted. This might be the chance he wanted. Juliet looked back up with a confident smile. "Aren't I always?" Doctor Richeson smiles back, stepping forward to give Juliet a hug. "I have to go help the other doctors now. I love you, Juliet." Juliet wrapped his arms around Dr. Richeson, accepting his hug. "I love you too, dad."

    ** CLARIFICATION **
They will not die when they turn 22. If a test subject was injected and they were older than 22 their body would not accept the mutations and they would die. Once they are mutants they live until they die of natural causes or are killed.

And secondly, they have these collars that the mutants wear they prevents them from using their powers. There are bugs with them however- newer powers aren't really recognized, and when they do try to use powers it will shock them severely (or someone will use a remote to do it).

Sorry I didn't state that sooner, I've been distracted like most teenagers. You know how it is.
    On to my actual post...

She watched Dr. Richeson speak with Juliet, listened in a bit as well. Althea found it funny that they went straight to him after she gave them such a hard time. The clock on the wall read 10:26, almost time for lunch and their 'social' hour. whoop-de-freakin-do...
    "Get up."
    Terrel.
    "Why the hell should I?"
"Because I told you to, you dog!" He yelled.
"So I AM just a dog... I get it now." She stood up, leaning against the wall.
"What is you problem Althea? Why do you rebel against me? I lost a grand opportunity to show my achievements!"
"You are my problem. You've kept me here. I have no parents like the others did at some point or another. No one gives a damn about me aside from how useful I can be!" She barked.
"I see..." He walked away, absorbed in thought.
"You can go to hell for all I care... monster." She mumbled.

A few of the mutants around her were starring at her as she slammed her fists against the wall in frustration and anger.

Eliot, on the other hand, is still meditating, thinking about the outside. He looks up at the clock and notices the time. "Almost time..." He says, taking the knife from the slit in his mattress and tucking it safely away in between the fabric of his vest. He waits eagerly, watching through the cell's bars.

Juliet watched the entire scene involving Dr. Terrel from the bars of his cell as he sat on his bed, shuffling a pair of cards on his right knee and listening to music through the earphone in his left ear. He felt a bit selfish watching the doctor insult Althea right after Richeson came for no reason other than a nice chat with himself.

Juliet found himself thinking about what Althea had told Terrel. "No one gives a damn about me aside from how useful I can be!" Juliet searched his memories to try to think of an event to contradict Althea's statement, but found that he couldn't argue. Doctor Richeson seemed to care about him, but Juliet knew that his own father would surely have concern for his well-being. Aside from Richeson, however, any other scientist who had worked with Juliet always seemed to put science before him.

Juliet looked back up to watch Althea assert her anger on the walls of her cell. He regretted that he was unable to speak to her from where he sat, though he couldn't think of a thing to say to her that wouldn't anger her further. The lack of anything particularly helpful to say to someone wasn't something that proved detrimental to him in the past, lest he considered the opposite effect that he desired as a result of conversation to be detrimental. Through the discovery that a complete disregard for the things that other people think of him makes his life easier, Juliet no longer feared such risks in conversations with people in volatile moods such as Althea. Given that there wasn't much time left before he would be released, he figured that he could make an attempt to speak to her soon enough.

As Juliet prepared another game of solitaire, he caught a glimpse of Eliot concealing a knife beneath his vest. He gave no visible reaction to it, focusing on laying the cards across his bed sheets. ”Maybe if I’m lucky, someone will lose their life tonight,” he commented in his head.

I need to get out of this asylum... I need at least one person to help get this started though. Whoever is the strongest... a good conductor. Althea thought, her anger slowly melting away as she thought. As soon as we get to social and lunch I'll ask around. God, I hope this plan works.
Once a week, each mutant was observed in a fight, a test of skill. This week was Althea's turn to pick any person she wanted to fight with, and the fight would be tomorrow morning. All would be allowed to watch if they chose to do so. She had brilliant plan, but it could really work if enough people could work together and cooperate.
I just hope they don't all think I've gone crazy, I can't help the way I react now...

Mariari looked around, observing the others. Still holding her doll tightly, she looks through the cell's bars, and sees that everyone else is deep in thought; or at least it looked like it.

With a sigh, she returned to her mattress to lay down, I wonder what the outside world feels like... I bet its better than this place. Ever since I've gained my abilities I've been locked up here. I don't mind my abilities, I hate being normal, but what I do hate is being locked inside here. Mariari thought to herself as she lay down in bed, alone and lonely, not even her doll could keep her company.
