"Alright, Charmander; while that SmokeScreen's in the way, start it off with Growl to weaken his attacks!"

His Charmander stepped forward into the cloud of smoke and began to call out as it used the ordered move. Jon watched the Charmander walk around inside the spot filled with ash. He hoped the Pokémon would be able to see the Koffing well enough to effectively attack him. The Charmander kept calling out, and he looked into the field across the air which was filled with the thick burned carbon compounds in an attempt to see an extent of what happened.

Koffing had heard Charmander's growl from where he hovered just above the smoke cloud and was clearly unnerved by it. Any physical attack Koffing might attempt against Charmander would be done so with a fair amount of trepidation. This meant that an attack such as Tackle would not be as effective. While Koffing was intimidated by his opponent, Kay failed to see the threat. He only ever had Koffing fight in close quarters as a last resort. Far from feeling threatened, Kay smiled beneath his gas mask. Though the cloud had apparently failed to envelope the Charmander, it had just now stepped into it. It probably couldn't see a thing.

    "Poison Gas." He ordered.

"Koffing!" the Pokemon cried in response. It hovered over the smoke cloud once more, spewing out even more gas. This time, the gas that he emitted was odourlous, colourless and highly toxic. It was heavier than the smoke was and Koffing didn't need to correct for the wind as much as he had before. He channelled this barely visible gas into the smoke screen. If Charmander didn't find his way out of the smoke cloud in time and inhaled the poisonous gas - or if Koffing's attack simply failed to land - it was likely that he would begin to suffer the effects of being poisoned.

He saw the Poison begin to take effect as he noticed his Charmander walking around blindly and coughing heavily with a few glimpses throughout all the smoke. The Fire-type had a conspicuous difficulty in breathing properly and nearly threw himself around in vehement convulsions to get fresh air. Jon immediately began to shout out to him as the Trainer caught a view of his Pokémon falling to the ground.

"Eat the Pecha Berry; be quick and use Ember!" He considered how the poisonous substance was likely to be flammable, and, furthermore, might cause the considerably heavy SmokeScreen to burn up.

The burning reptilian remembered the fruit in his claws and devoured it as soon as he could. Suddenly, everything was substantially easier. He shot out about a ton of flames directly up and breathed in the clean atmosphere, using an immense quantity of oxygen to fuel his attack.

It would have only taken the slightest of sparks, but Charmander's ember attack had been more than enough to ignite the smoke screen. For an instant, the entire gas cloud burned in mid air. Kay had to duck out aside to avoid being burned himself. And while Charmander was likely immune to this sudden burst of flame, Koffing could have been luckier. He had managed to avoid much of the blast, but the flame had made contact with his body. There were singes here and there now visible. Kay and Koffing were both very aware of the risk involved with fighting a fire type. If Koffing's body temperature reached too high, he would be prone to exploding.

The smoke screen had cleared away now and it was thanks to the fruit that Charmander had eaten that it was no longer poisoned. Still, the damage that Koffing had done remained and as long as he could stay out of reach, Kay knew that he could win this battle.

"Shake it off, Koffing. Charmander's far from beaten." Kay said. "Use Sludge."

Koffing inflated, his cheeks suddenly filling with putrid bile. He lurched forward and spat the liquid from his mouth. Kay didn't need to give him much instruction here; Koffing was taking careful aim with this attack - Charmander's face. If it got into his eyes, it would impair its vision. Better yet, if it got anywhere near his mouth or nose, there was a good chance that he would be poisoned again. And this time, Charmander wouldn't have a Pecha Berry to cure him.

He called out to his Pokémon.

    "Look out; quickly!"

The Charmander thought swiftly, used his arms to cover his face, and turned a bit to the side as he tried to back away. All the poisonous liquid soaked him; his arms and chest were completely drenched by the poison, although, fortunately, his face had remained shielded from the attack. He took his hands away from his face and moved up again to resume the battle with his opponent.

"Now, follow it up with another Ember!" the Trainer advised him.

As the bile singed his skin, he decided to run up, jumped into the air over about 1.5 feet, and launched a fiery quantity of oil at the foe, then fell back down. Jon worried about him; he was perceptibly in a great measure of pain. The damage from the Koffing's noxious Sludge had already delivered a remarkably deleterious injury. He knew this battle was probably far from over.

Koffing was struck dead on by the ember attack. For moment, he tumbled from the air. Kay did think at first that Koffing had fainted. But the in the next moment, it hit the ground before bouncing up into the air again. It looked as though he had taken a substantial amount of damage just now. There was even a small patch of flaming oil stuck to his skin, though if it bothered Koffing he wasn't showing it. This wasn't working. Koffing could not take another hit like that.

"Smoke Screen." Kay ordered. "And keep it coming."

Koffing obeyed at once. It flew into the air, spewing black smoke that seemed denser and slightly heavier than before, though Koffing still had to correct for wind resistance. Koffing was putting everything he had into this attack, sending the smoke cloud drifting in all directions. Koffing showed no sign of ceasing his attack; he hovered overhead, flying around in a circular pattern, just above the smoke screen. Kay couldn't see if Charmander had been overtaken. The smoke screen overtook him quickly, he couldn't see a thing.

Finally, Koffing ceased the attack and flew high into the air. He strained his eyes, searching for any sign of his foe.

"It's alright; this isn't over yet!" Jon motivated his Charmander. He headed into the border of the smoke to see the Pokémon. He shouted out once more.

"Come on now, stand up, and use another Ember directly upwards to try to clear the SmokeScreen." he helped his Charmander.

The Charmander complied with his Trainer's request and began to shoot flames outwards all over the place to dispel the dense and shady atmosphere. Jon saw the burning flame across the thick cloud and witnessed them pile up into the air. He patiently waited, wondering whether or not it would burn up all the heavy air with hope for it to at least accomplish something if it didn't actually damage the foe.

"I see you, and I'm here with you; keep up the flames." Jon tried to provide Charmander a greater incentive to do his best and watched closely.

Once again, the smoke cloud erupted into flames. But Kay had a different strategy now. It was beginning to seem as though this Charmander was not going to give up. But Kay wasn't going to let Koffing go down.

Not without taking Charmander out first.

"Now, Koffing!" Kay called out suddenly. "Get in close! Use Self Destruct!"

"Koffing!" He began spinning around in the air, taking the Ember attack head on and diving through the flames toward Charmander. It fell rapidly, it's body temperature rising as it approached. Then, when Koffing was about two metres away from his foe, he expanded very suddenly, releasing enormous amounts of flammable gas that caught flame. The air surrounding Koffing's round body exploded instantly. Kay knew very well that Koffing would not be able to continue fighting after this maneuver, but he'd be damned if he lost this battle.

The explosion kicked dirt and dust into the air. Kay could only wait for it all to settle before witnessing the aftermath for himself.

Jon spectated the move in a shocked condition as he heard his opponent order the Koffing to Selfdestruct. He wouldn't have believed before how a Trainer would seem to show so little regard for his Pokémon and only care whether or not he was at least as good as the person who he was battling. The fact of how Kay was willing to let all that training be a waste simply so he either wouldn't have to discover who would be the victor or find some entertainment from an attack which might knock out everyone was easily perceptible. The smoke began to clear. His Pokémon turned to the right towards him and looked away from the Poison-type for a moment. He ran out towards his Charmander and inhaled a great deal of fumes which choked him and filled his lungs as their foe detonated and the attack hit them both from the side.

"Goddamnit!" he exclaimed as the flaming outburst hit them and set him into flames. It hurt them both like hell. He received several blisters from it all over his arms and partially on his face. He got down and tossed himself around in the grass until the burning steam blew away and off of him. He stood up, surprised to see how his Charmander was still standing.

The Charmander had his eyes shut and was facing down directly towards the ground with several bloody gashes and other injuries as he did absolutely nothing; it appeared as if he might fall down unconsciously at any moment.

"Come on now; it'll all feel better soon; I'm here for you, bro!" he tried to get his Charmander to move.

Then, suddenly, as he opened his eyes, the Fire-type became enveloped in a harshly scintillant light; it was evolving!

    "Wha-?!" the battler shouted out.

"Don't--!" Kay yelled out, at first attempting to prevent Jon from running in to the blast radius. But he was too late. He sighed.

As the dust settled, Kay had a clear view of Koffing, Jon and his Charmander. Koffing was lying on the ground, slightly deflated, not moving. Charmander was still standing but wasn't doing much else for the moment. Kay didn't know how to call this one. He lifted his gas mask and began to rummage through his back pack, strolling casually over to Koffing and Jon. It was clear that he hadn't won this battle, but if he had lost it had at least been on his terms.

    Kay could accept that.

He and Koffing would fight with everything they had in battle. And if Kay saw the slightest sign that he wouldn't win any given battle, he would order Koffing to use Self Destruct. He'd never explain this to Jon, but it was almost a compliment.

"Here." He said, dropping two burn heals - one for Charmander and one for Jon - beside him, paying little heed to Charmander's injuries. He then stepped over to Koffing, retrieving a revive and a bottle of water. He opened Koffing's mouth, stuck the revive inside and waited for it to take effect. And with in a few moments, Koffing had awoken.

    "You all right?" He asked.

    "Koffing..."

    "Good. Have some water."

He looked over as he was blinded by a bright light. Then he realised that it was Charmander who was emitting it. He was evolving. "Hm." Kay he muttered. "Guess you did some good after all, Koffing."

"Blllrrrblrrr!" Koffing said, currently draining the bottle of its water as he slowly ascended into the air.

"Come on. Let's go." Kay said, gesturing for Koffing to follow. The pair of them left for Viridian Forest, departing before Chamander completed his evolution.

OOC: @Tye Taylors I'm game to continue in a PRP if there's a couple more people willing to as well; just let us know next time before you're not going to be able to post for the better part of a month.

[[OOC: @Tye Taylors, @Fengor. I'm not entirely sure what PRP is exactly. I'm a little bit out of the loop like that, I guess. But in any case, I'm very interested in continuing.]]

It's a small group RP where it focuses more on the small group of trainers more so than the individual and it is usually allowed to run more smoothly and in-depth, I'll contact you guys in who are interested in 2 weeks or so.

After over 30 minutes of waiting, Charmander finally completed the evolution. Jon immediately opened his backpack and searched for any type of medicine which could have been helpful. He was about to use a Potion on the Charmeleon and head out, but, as he walked up to him and opened it up, the Fire-type collapsed. The Trainer noticed blood and slime pouring out from underneath his Pokémon's scales; he was poisoned. The flaming reptile fainted and laid down in the field, and was blatantly incapable of doing anything. The battler called it back to its Poké Ball.

Great; we got all that training, but, now, we have to head all the way back there... which means we're probably going to be far behind what we were supposed to be at... out in Pewter City.
