Thread: Geo Strata Tourney *Start-Up*

"Ah, such a beauty!" Eliot says, going to register. "Why so glum? A smile is the best thing you can wear."

Jett and Sky stopped and landed outside of the arena, and Jett returned the Dragonite to her Ultra Ball before walking in, Spectrum once again by his side. He walked to the desk to recieve his information packet but had to wait as there was another person in front of him.

Adrock came to a shocking realization. He realized that he told his master about the tournament and his master told him to win it meaning his master had no suspicion so neither should he. He felt like a bad guest for having his guard up so he put away his staff and approached Tyler. He said "Hey buddy what you know about the tournament rules? I assume there won't be a screening because the sent out invites so they already have a set number of combatants, but there is no way of knowing or making sure that everyone's coming. Sorry if this is random but really looking for a second opinion."

Keitaro had almost left the main lobby when a familiar face caught his eye. Looking at Adrock this time, he recognized him. Being timid but definitely not rude, he approached the other boy. "Hey, you," he said flatly, with a slight German accent. "I remember you from the Sinnoh League. You came in a place ahead of me, didn't you?"

Tyler yawned before turning around to look at the guy that had talked to him. "Rules?" Tyler raised an eyebrow while scratching the back of his head. "I think they just said that they'll be picking us randomly and have us fight in different feels, or at least that's what I can remember right now."

"Random how peculiar" the Steelson boy responded before quickly turning around to Keitaro responding "Yes Ayugai right? Yes I remember you I think we lost to the same girl. Stupid Machamp got us both or was that someone else?"

"That's the name. You're that Steelson kid, right? That Machamp murdered us." Keitaro shifted his eyes towards the receptionist. "Did you get a room key?"

Jett got his stuff from the receptionist moments before James Sovner walked into the room and spoke.

"Its good to see all of you showed up. I am James Sovner, host of the Geo Strata Tourney, and owner of the Geo Strata Complex. There are seven trainers entered, but only one will emerge victorious. Which one of you it will be that does so, well only time will tell. Also competing in this tournament are the Terrain Masters, trainers I handpicked for their skills at battling on a specific terrain. They, for the most part, prefer to remain unnamed at this time. They are also whom your opponents for the first round will be. Right now please draw your attention to the central monitor"

At that moment, the larger monitor in the room showed the tourney tree, and the matches for the first round. A box at the bottom left corner of the screen showed that TM stood for Terrain Master.The rest of it read:

FIRST ROUND MATCHES WILL BE THREE POKEMON EACH, SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED


Jett looked and saw that he would be battling the Tundra Terrain Master in the second match. He then decided to spend the duration of the first match choosing which pokemon to use. Torterra and Dragonite would be out of the question, since the Tundra Master redoubtably would use Ice Type Pokemon extensively.

The young apprentice was flabbergasted. There were so many people and the complex was so big yet there were only seven combatants and if they are so little people why have half battles. Adrock was confused why he even was invited surely they were at least seven people stronger than him who weren't invited. He then came up with a theory "Hundreds of trainers were invited but only 7 were either dumb enough to fall into the trap or mumble enough to give a non PL the time of day" but that didn't explain the crowd. He thought "this whole tournament could be just one huge private party. Or he's a lot better at finding spectators than competitors".

Adrock decided to focus on the competition and ask Sovner when he gets the chance. He thought up list of types that a mountain trainer would use:rock ground fighting are likely and flying dragon and steel are possible. He than wonder if TM's use Pokemon that go with arena or counter one that too or ones that counter the ones that counter. The young trainer than calmed down realizing that he has the last match so he can know what to expect.

He then remember Keitaro and turn to him apologized and answer his peer's question.

Keitaro glanced at the list of challenges, half-listening to his acquaintance. "Forest…" he thought, instinctively fingering his Camerupt and Skarmory, who would undoubtedly give him an edge against such a Terrain Master. He suddenly turned to Adrock. "I wonder when we start our challenges… It probably wouldn't hurt to grab a bite before the tourney begins."

"Yeah it wouldn't" Adrock looked at his map "does Orre food sound good right now". Adrock was in the mood for Orre food and hoped that Keitaro was as well.

"Awesome!" Tyler yelled in happiness. "I passed to the next round automatically that's so cool," he chuckled as he grinned. Of course this will also allow me to inspect all of the other matches and prepare. he thought as he looked around. He knew that all of those trainers were really good and that he had to watch out for them and as thus the fact that he had the chance to skip was a big one.

"That's fine with me," Keitaro replied. "It'll be a new experience." He was having trouble focusing on the conversation after the contestant without a challenge began bragging loudly. He didn't notice it much, though. His stomach was beginning to moan.

"Grassland..." Aaron muttered. "Grass, Ground, Flying, and Bug types probably. Maybe Normal or Electric. I think... Bulk, Ferno and Ninja might be the best choices... But Webster and Shredder may be helpful... I'll have to see what kinds of Pokemon the other Terrain Masters use before deciding on my Pokemon. A good type-specialist should always have a Pokemon that can counter his weaknesses. In fact, he may even have a Volcarona, since Grass, Ground, and Flying are all weak to Fire. I think Bulk deserves a rematch with a Volcarona." He walked off to a nearby Orrean restaurant, still muttering to himself.

James was glad to see the trainers already forming their own strategies. He then said "The first match will begin in an hour. Should either participant fail to arrive by then, he or she will be disqualified. You may do what you wish until then"

He then walked out of the complex to his own private house built on the edge of the complex, relaxing as he knew this tournament would be unlike any other,

Jett decided since he was to battle Ice Types his best bets would be to use Static, Knight, and Lurker. He then walked to the arena entrance and let the three pokemon out of their pokeballs. In a series of flashes of light, the Electivire, Galllade, and Swampert appeared. He then told them "Relax, because later you three are going to be battling on a Tundra battlefield.
