    Default Saving APNG Images

I downloaded a Firefox tool to create Animated PNG images, however whenever I save the completed file, only the first frame is retained.

Are you saving it as .png or .apng? Also, it depends on the viewer. What program are you viewing it in?
The word "quadragonal" is the only word with "dragon" in it where "dragon" is not a root word. That makes it awesome.

The extension shouldn't matter. APNG works with either extension, so that it can work as a regular PNG in older browsers that don't support APNG.

@Master Mew: What tool are you using?

Then I hope you are using XnView to view them after saving, because no other image viewer is smart enough to recognize there is an animation inside the file.

I haven't used it before, but scrolling through the reviews, I came across this:

This thing is great for making the animated pngs that we've been using on Bulbapedia. I use it each time I need to make an animation of a sprite.

I do wish it was able to open png files and read whether or not they were animated already, so you could edit their timing, images, and so on.
So if you're just trying to reopen the same image after saving it, it looks like there's no way to tell that it was animated, but it should work if you view it directly in Firefox. Failing that, at least you know of someone on this very forum who's used APNG Editor and you can go to for help.:P

Yeah... trouble is, I'm creating all new images from frames I've already created in Photoshop and exported as PNGs. I save the completed animation, and when I open it in Opera (which can view APNGs), it only displays the first frame.

EDIT: By the way, I was able to use APNG Assembler to create my current Avatar, but this is not a particularly useful tool and it was a real pain to prep the files for upload.

EDIT EDIT: I think I've narrowed down the problem, I just can't seem to upload the working APNG image to photobucket. Does Photobucket not support APNG format images?

They support it. Unless they changed something recently...

    Here's APNG gallery on Photobucket:

But I think they are quite greedy about the filesize, and won't allow anything above 1mb. They would probably "optimize" such files by converting them into JPG or something...

I think APNG Assembler is quite easy to use. It also creates smaller files.

I just always use gifs. Didn't know png supported animation.

Assembler doesn't allow me to set the delay for each frame separately - so I had to create multiple copies of the same frame to fill time, and while the images are supposed to be sorted alpha-numerically, double-digit numbers cause serious frame-order problems.

You can fix frame delays later using TweakPNG, by double-clicking on fcTL items.

As for double-digits, I guess such naming should probably work fine:

    ...
    frame08.png
    frame09.png
    frame10.png
    frame11.png
    ...

I use JAPNG, which can create and edit APNGs and allows you to set each frame's display time individually, along with a few other settings.

Well, I still can't seem to get Photobucket to cooperate with me, but by uploading the file to my Bulbagarden album instead, I found success! Check out my new avatar.
