    Default Game Making Software

    I'm making a game - mostly action adventure, so far - and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for programs.

    The biggest thing is that it needs to have the ability to save information about what items you have so far.

    I've used Games Factory 2 before, but I can't remember if it allowed for saves...

    Try Scratch. It's a free downloadable programming language, and ou are able to make games and save them. You can download it here ---> http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/scratch.mit.edu

    Oh yeah, I should be more clear - I want the ability to save when you're playing the game, so it remembers your progress the next time you boot it up. That way, you won't have to rely on a password system. D:

    With Scratch, you don't rely on passwords. Scratch has you save it with no password required.

    I think Gamemaker can do that, but I'm not so sure, I've only used it to make minigames.
    Birdsong - An exploration of the human psyche at a point of being highly unstable, yet stable enough to recognise its insanity. Also officially the second-best piece of dark fiction of this year's Winter awards season and Fic of the Month of March (and technically April) 2013. Interested? You should be. Give it a look.

    Also, I play Animal Crossing: New Leaf. If you don't like it, tough, and if you do, let me know. It'll be the closest thing I'll do to socialising this summer!

    You should consider learning C++.

    It's not technically game making software, but if you're serious about making a professional game, C++ or Java and DirectX/OpenGL is the way to go.

    But then again, I'm biased towards it because I know how it works and everything... I don't really like the other types of software because you can't always make it do exactly what you want it to do.

    Actually, I've been trying to figure out C++, but so far I've only read about it. I was thinking about taking a class, but that would probably take a few years...

    Thanks for all the help!

    Nah. To make a basic program, it took me about a year's worth of learning. Although those are still console programs >_>

    I did create a functioning clone of Panel De Pon in Java, though.

    LucarioGirl, I'm afraid scratch doesn't work. Every time you load a game on scratch, you have to click the little green flag at the top right. That restarts the game.
    Unfortunatley, I don't know any good game makers. Sorry I couldn't help :(

    If you want to make a game, and you don't mind complex, you can try the UDK. It's a free-for-non-commercial-use version of unreal engine 3, which is used in many PC and 360 and PS3 games. And there have been rpgs released based on unreal engine 3, such as Mass Effect, so you can probably add in item saving support.

    TG::dA::YT::furaffinity::Yes, I DID claim Gligar.

    Like someone else stated, learning C++ or even C could help in this case, and even Game Maker. There's plenty of tutorials online for C++ and C and even Game Maker Language. If your a beginner programmer though, I suggest looking at Game Maker Language tutorials, or just using that program since most of it is copy/paste. (Or so i've read, I haven't used Game Maker yet...)

    Oh yeah: Somwhere online, I found out a way to get the scripts in Scratch to save your data. But it was on the Scratch website, and I forgot how to do it :(

    RPG maker series is very good, especially for people that don't know programming that good. it comes in with a built in save sequence. I have RPG maker xp, and am currently working on a game. you should either get xp or RPGmaker VX

    Use Game Maker. It's really helpful, has saving features, some 3D capability, and no programming is needed (but there is optional programming for more advanced options). I've used it to create platformers, but I've seen all kinds of games. You can really make professional-looking games with it! I'm sure you'd love it!
