I've heard rumors from a video that Zexal is supposed to be 300 episodes, so I'm holding onto hope that the Arclights will come back, along with Gauche, Droite, and Fuya.
Also, the newest episode to me was really good, interesting.
What are you afraid of? And what are you made of?
Flesh and bone
And I'm running out of time,
Flesh and bone
I think that was from a panel with the voice director of the LA Zexal dub, which I was happy to find out exists and yet so disappointed that we will never see a full episode of that dub. She said that ADK had plans for a 300 episode story arc for Zexal, but I really can't see the series lasting that long. That just seems like way too long. I could see Zexal ending up having between 150 to 180 episodes at best. Plus, original plans for a series can easily change depending on what cards they want to market. I think one of the Twitter accounts from one of the staff members of 5D's said that Crow was originally suppose to be the final boss in the Dark Signer arc, but Konami wanted him to promote more Blackwings cards, so that was changed. How long Zexal lasts most likely depends on how long they want to promote Xyz monsters, the sales of the newest card packs and when they create a new kind of monster they want to promote.
I imagine that the Arclights will return at some point regardless of how long the series is. I couldn't care less about Droite and Gauche appearing again. They weren't that interesting, especially when Droite basically became the adult version of Kotori, except calling out Kaito's name instead of Yuma. Gauche was at least fairly entertaining at times, but I still didn't care that much for him. I like Fuya, even though his second appearance felt like a complete waste of time, so I wouldn't be necessarily against him appearing again.

I thought that the recent episode was okay. The duel was pretty entertaining, but Shark being cool helped with that a lot. I was surprised that he got some new cards, especially a new Xyz. They were pretty cool and honestly made me consider using a Shark deck if they ever release a Zexal game for the 3DS. I would have liked it if Shark had won since he was doing so well, but helping Yuma to regain his confidence was the point of the duel and while they probably could do that with him losing, they clearly didn't want to go that route. Yuma playing Excalibur was a nice surprise though. There wasn't much for this episode beyond that, but it was relatively decent and entertaining all the same.
I agree. It wasn't anything particularly special, but it did its job well enough. I thought that Shark laughing like some maniac in some parts of the duel was a bit too much for me because it made him look more like a ruthless bad person than some friend trying to help. I could have done without it. He was still cool, though, so I'm not really bothered by it. What appealed and impressed me the most about the duel was how quickly Shark summoned his Xyz Monsters to deal damage. Just last week I was thinking the same thing. So far I only added Shark Drake in my Evil Hero deck, but not have made a deck dedicated to it. I don't think they'll release a Zexal Tag Force game on the 3DS. All the previous Tag Force games have been released on Sony's PSP, so why would they suddenly change with Nintendo's 3DS? If a portable Zexal Tag Force game were to be made, it would undoubtedly be on the PS Vita. I'd prefer if it would be on the 3DS, just because I own one and the 3D of the Xyz monsters would be extremely cool if done well. The PS Vita is extremely expensive for me, it hasn't been doing good sales wise, and I'm not interested in any of the titles. So if a Zexal Tag Force game were to be made on the PS Vita, I wouldn't buy it. I'd have preferred if Shark won as well, mostly because he dueled better summoning all the Xyz Monsters and using their effects really well to counter Yuma's defenses, and Yuma's counter to defeat Shark came off more as really dumb luck rather than skill. It just felt too easy They could have still made Yuma regain his confidence even without winning by pulling a counter, still lose by a close call and make him happy enough. I wasn't really surprised that Yuma Xyz summoned a non Number monsters because Shark didn't as well, and I also thought that it might have been because it was decided to not involve any Number cards in it because it their attacks could have harmed them. Excalibur was so cool I put him in my deck on Dueling Network! I only play Yu-Gi-Oh! online, but Excalibur's coolness made me want to buy him just for how great he is. There's a trading card game shop near Junior College that has him, so I might buy him from there.
As for the next episode, I'm happy to see that the Barian have come up with a decent plan to attack Yuma by manipulating the majority of the students in his school. Something like that happened in GX three times, so I'm interested to see how it will be handled now. Alit dueling again isn't much of interest to me because while I think he has a cool enough deck, his dueling isn't anything I'd want to see again. If the preview showed his deck being used, I'd be more interested. Hopefully the duel will be good this time now that Alit has nothing to hide from Yuma and so has no excuses to use his the full potential of his skills and deck.
If someone tells me it's wrong to Hope for Victory, I'll prove them wrong every time.
I didn't mind his laughter since I just took it as still trying to be tough to help him out since Yuma needed to be shaken up.
I was thinking more of a World Championship game than a Tag Force game or just some kind of 3DS game focused on Zexal. Despite my issues with the show, I'd probably have some fun with a Zexal video game.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
Yeah, considering that Yuma won with some last minute luck rather than skill, it didn't seem satisfying to see him win when Shark was doing so well. They could have helped him to regain his confidence and still lose, but I don't think that they weren't interested in doing that. I knew that Yuma wouldn't play a Number card since for the most part, he doesn't play them when he's not dealing with another Number card or a Chaos Xyz monster, but I just wasn't expecting Excalibur out of his non-Number Xyz cards.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
Considering how well all of their other plans with controlling people at Yuma's school has turned out, I don't know if controlling a lot of people all at once is going to be any better. I don't care much to see Alit duel since, while he wasn't bad before, I wasn't that impressed at the same time. The duel might be more interesting if they can fix that Barian Sphere Field so that he can unleash his full strength, but I still don't care much for him or for Gliag.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
My problem isn't that he was laughing, but how he laughed. It came off as being disturbing and made Shark look unnecessarily crazy.
They'd expand a bit on the story of the characters, which turns out to be really interesting.
It doesn't make much of a difference anyway. Shark achieved what he wanted to do, and I guess losing to Yuma helped him be cheered up more. Considering its effect and the card Yuma drew, it was the best choice.
With how Shark and Kaito quickly and easily defeated the biker gang in the second episode of Zexal II, I think a similar case is going to happen here. It surely is better than only controlling one, and with more people to control, it should give the Barian more results than the biker gang. The Barian Sphere Field being used would be cool. Gilag and Alit don't really have much going for them. They're just subordinates of Durbe, one of the Seven Barian Lords, so they're not really important characters that could affect the plot much.
If someone tells me it's wrong to Hope for Victory, I'll prove them wrong every time.
I didn't really get that impression when Shark laughed, but maybe I wasn't paying much attention to it either.
Based on the other World Championship games I've played, it's usually an adaptation of a storyline from the series more than anything else, but they're still pretty fun and the video games are the only way I play the game anyway.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
That's true and Shark was probably happy to lose based on his expression as his life points went down to zero. I would have liked it more if Shark won, but I'm kind of bias anyway since he's my favorite character in the series and seeing him win generally works for me anyway.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
I'm still not sure if that's any better since Gilag did control a lot of people all at once and that didn't make the plan work. The only good results that I think that they can get at this point is defeating Yuma, Shark, Kaito and maybe Rio, depending on her role in this conflict. I think it would be better for them to fix the Barian Sphere Cubes so that they can use their full force against Yuma and his friends. That would make a lot more sense than depending on other random duelists to do the job for them, especially when most of them haven't even been good duelists and they've already wasted time with going with Gilag's plans. I don't know if Gilag and Alit aren't one of the Seven Barian Lords or if that means that they don't have an effect on the plot if they aren't. I do question why they bother to send two idiots to confront Yuma when they haven't learned anything new and at this point, it just seems like they're wasting time by not taking action themselves or not sending someone competent sooner.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
Wasn't the plan to study their strategies?
Those are the best results, which I find to be highly unlikely to happen.
All of Gilag's plans were meant to find their weak point.
Durbe is the only confirmed one. Again, they're subordinates. Their job is to gather information.
If someone tells me it's wrong to Hope for Victory, I'll prove them wrong every time.
I'm not sure, but if it is, I don't think that it's necessary at this point, especially when I don't think that they haven't learned anything new that really required them to keep using other people to duel them for them.
Yuma officially losing definitely isn't going to happen since that would kill Astral and they can't always get power to bring him back. Kaito and Shark losing is slightly more possible, unless they could die from losing in the Barian Sphere Cubes, but still pretty unlikely. Since they've constantly lost with brainwashed duelists and only the first two were difficult for Yuma to defeat, I don't think that they can use them to get the best results, even with a lot of them under their control all at once.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
He hasn't done a good job since he's basically doing the same thing and expecting better results, despite not putting any thought into them. If he did, he would have realized that attacking Rio to get to Shark didn't work the first time he tried it and using Kotori and Cathy to fight Yuma wouldn't work not only because of how neither of them are good duelists, but the moment Yuma and Astral recognized Rank Up, they would get serious, instead of throwing the duel. That would require Gilag to actually be smart though. At this point, his plans just come off as wasting time when they should just get the Barian Sphere Cubes up and ready for them to use. At least they can actually be direct and potentially get better results. One attack from Misael knocked Yuma out. Imagine setting it up so that one of the Barian Lords attacked him. They should just focus on that instead of brainwashing random people.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
I thought that at least Misael was confirmed as a Barian Lord. I don't know if being subordinates really means that they can't have much effect on the plot, but I still question why they still need to gather information at this point. They already know that they need to defeat Yuma and they're able to watch his duels before sending Gilag and Alit, so there's really no need to continue getting information. They just need to take better action with villains that are actually competent and making better use of the resources they have, once they fix the Barian Sphere Cubes.Originally Posted by HumanDawn
I really liked the recent Alit focus and the character development that he got. The drama in the first episode of the two parter was set up nicely, and Gilag's plan went really well until Alit showed up. Something about Kotori not dueling against the manipulated students just came off as plain wrong to me. They established that she can duel in the sports tournament episode. Why not help around with your skills? The Numbers Club could have actually been made to be useful and have a point of existing if they helped Yuma, but instead they're nowhere to be seen, with Kotori pretending to be useful in the background. Gilag finally deciding to go full force on Yuma was exciting. While Alit saving Yuma was very cool, I didn't get the motivation behind it, but that's because I haven't watched the episodes with subtitles yet so I might have a better understand of it beyond just having a good duel against Yuma. As for the duel itself, it was pretty exciting and aesthetically gorgeous looking. It was really fast paced, though. Something that bothers me a bit in the duels of Yu-Gi-Oh! is how fast they are sometimes. They don't give a chance for the audience to appreciate the well animated scenes with the monsters. Number 106 was really cool, but I never much of a chance to enjoy it. What happened to Alit was very surprising, and I think that Durbe was the one that hurt him for betraying the Barian.
The new episode looks like it will be interesting. Rei finally dueling will hopefully explain what connection he has to the Numbers that has been built up with him hiding in the background. I'm thinking that Gilag might end up getting the same treatment as Alit did, and hopefully get some more character development.
What did you think @Hidden Mew;?
If someone tells me it's wrong to Hope for Victory, I'll prove them wrong every time.
I thought that Gilag's plan was going well too until I realized that it was the same plan he tried out in the first two episodes and was foiled by basically the same reason with Yuma's friends helping him out. Rei being under control still kind of confuses me, if only because we didn't see him get the Rank Up card, but I guess it was thrown into the episode to make him look more mysterious since they've apparently haven't done that enough times since his debut. I wasn't surprised that Kotori just stood in the background. Even though she can duel, she's really not that good at all, so I don't think she could have offered much help. Besides that, they could be doing so much more with the Numbers Club members so there would be more of a point to them than just being Yuma's personal cheerleaders, but the writers have no interest in doing so. I honestly got a bit of a laugh with Kotori having a frying pan as her weapon, but that was because I watched Tangled for the first time before watching that episode.
I think that Alit saved Yuma because he wanted to defeat him himself, but I could be wrong since I haven't seen these episodes with subs either. The duel itself was okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great for me either. It might have been just from being bored at how they get their ace monsters out so quickly and I miss the days where they used other monsters first and didn't pull out the ace monsters until near the end of the match. That's been an issue I've had with most of Zexal's duels and going too fast doesn't help much either. To be fair, the duels can be a bit more interesting when I actually understand what they're saying and all of the card effects, so seeing subs might improve my impression of this duel. Alit's transformation to his Barian form was pretty cool, although I didn't care much for the form itself.
I was surprised that Alit actually lived after being defeated. I thought that losing in the Barian Sphere Cube would kill the loser, especially when he was already bleeding from one attack. I was kind of disappointed that Astral couldn't absorb Alit's Number. It would have been nice to see what kind of connection Astral has to these over one-hundred Numbers. One theory I've heard is how these are Astral's memories of the future that somehow the Barians have been able to combine with their own powers. That does sound pretty awesome and could be a really interesting way of foreshadowing future arcs if that actually does happen. Although, since Astral couldn't do that, I guess that might not be too likely to actually happen. I don't know if it was Durbe who attacked Alit. It might have since he wasn't really for the Barian cause, but it might have been someone else we haven't been introduced to yet.
The two-part match was generally okay for me. I didn't care much for Alit before and I still don't, but he did get some development and it was clear that he and Yuma bonded over the course of the duel. I am curious to see what kind of deck Rei has though.
I really enjoyed episode 87. I thought that Rei was being really adorable, even though he's still being highly suspicious. I find it interesting to look into everything he does, like when he was crying. I want to think that he's really just good and everyone thinks he's evil, but I can't tell especially whatwith the end of the episode. I also found it refreshing how Rei seems to be really bad at dueling when I personally think he's just pretending to be bad.
Also, Yuma was great in this episode since he was actually being really mature aside from his "Because he sucks at everything" comment. I also really loved seeing Gilag become so emotional over Alit-sama ahhhrg it's so cute.
