Default So I'm new to the whole anime thing....

I was 'afraid' of anime for a few years of my life.
Where I live, it's not exactly something you brag about, you're love for anime, so I avoided showing that I like it in fear that I would be shunned. Then, I started to fall in love with it again, like I did in my childhood.
So basically, after years in the darkness, I rediscovered pokemon.
And bam! Now I'm obsessed but I have no clue what to watch.

I basically been watching things that I grew up with, like pokemon and digimon and cardcaptors (yeah, I hear that the japanese is better). I also started on bleach.

(If you're still reading now, thank you. I'm sorry I am so boring.)

So could you suggest anything for me? I tend to like things that are dubbed more, but I will try subs if they're really good. Also, I am a wee bit of a prude but I can handle blood. And action.

    Thanks!~

This Pokemon is very cheerful, carefree and always has a smile. It tends to break up squabbles. Its fangs are not fully developed, but still hurt, and whenever they do, they make other Pokemon chill out.

Might want to try Inuyasha has fair amount of both action and about 5% of blood flowing in nearly all the eps

    I second this.

Also recommending all the animes in this post, Cowboy Bebop, and Ouran High School Host Club. Cowboy Bebop is much more dark than Host Club, but it doesn't have too much blood. There's a reason it's still aired on [Adult Swim], even after nearly 10 years: Because it is awesome.

Host Club is a romantic comedy parody of shoujo anime. Very lighthearted and fun.

FullMetal Alchemist. One of the best Shonen mangas out. :D
There's no such thing as a painless lesson-they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can't gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made Fullmetal.

Slice-of-Life series are also good to start with. They're nice and lighthearted; some good examples are Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, Air TV (kinda), and Yotsuba. For the action I second Fullmetal Alchemist!

Best suggestion I can give is most of everything Adult Swim and Old school Toonami did for anime has been really good. Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and Gundam Wing are a few of my favorites. All have great a great story and I think are good "Welcome back to anime" animes. If you can get over the blood(phobia) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is one of my top animes of all time, fantastic story and animation.

Oh and if you're watching Digimon, Tamers is hands down the best of the 5 dubbed series.
Astronomy Club... you know you want to.

Rurouni Kenshin, since it's my favorite anime TV series.

Also check out Slayers if you're into fantasy and comedy. :)

    Second the Tamers recommendation above.

Also, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann are a must for any anime fan. For a long running series I suggest Naruto- starts out rather slow but the plot twists are mind-blowing in the latest chaps and eps. If you liked Melancholy you might also want to watch Bakemonogatari. Only 15 eps but it's pretty good for a (relatively) non-action series.

Then there's High School Of The Dead- it's more mature (both fanservice and gore) but I found it's rather simple storyline rather captivating- I think the characters are quite good. The lead shows actual logic sometimes instead of rushing in like any other hotblooded hero. Besides, anime!Rambo aka Kouta Motherfucking Hirano is part of the cast. Nuff said.

A lone detective takes it upon himself to solve the murder of a young woman, willingly diving into the dangerous web of conspiracies weaved by the feuding mafia families. But after the truth is uncovered, will that city of sin be the same ever again?

Truth. The dub is solid - anything but perfect, mind you, but a lot better most Saban dubs - and the series itself is refreshingly dark compared to the others. I'd recommend at least a checking out of it if you're interested.

Just make sure you watch the new "Brotherhood" version, not the original.

Either Gurren Lagann or Lucky Star. First two I watched.
