Wasn't that the main reason Sayaka and Kyoko didn't get on at all at first?

Thing is, I'd argue that Homura was similar to Sayaka; she constantly tried to go back in time to save Madoka; even after it failed time and time again. Sure, she may have stopped being the cheery young girl she was at first, but the fact that she didn't give up on Madoka shown that deep down. To me, that shows that she was a mixture of the two; realising the world was the cynical way it was, but not wanting to give up.

Personally, I am like Sayaka. That's why I grew attached to her more - I see the ugliness of the world and I want to try change it, although I know that ultimately, anything I can possibly do would have little or no effect.
but when she did realize that nothing she did was doing any good, that the world she think she's making a difference to protect is a rotten one full of womanizers and other scumbags and where nothing can go her way, wasn't it Sayaka that was being more of a defeatist then? And Homura's quite an interesting case: although she goes to huge extremes for the sake of keeping her friend's promise (which was pretty much the ONLY thing driving her after a while), the timeloops no doubt broke her, and she can easily be viewed as a cynic in the present story. Hell, TVTropes even quotes her at the top of the page, as a defining example of how this is NOT your average mahou shoujo.

"With kindness comes naïveté. Courage becomes foolhardiness. And dedication has no reward. If you can't accept any of that, you are not fit to be a magical girl."

Yup, classes again. I'm gonna be at this for a while.

To add to that, they'll be announcing who's voicing Madoka on the 14th!

EDIT: Looking at their FB page...made me wish I lived in the U.S....

I live about 1500-2000 miles south of New York, so I have no chance of being there either, if it's any consolation :(

BD/DVD Volume 1 is going to be released in the US on Valentine's day, 2012... I'm gonna miss out D:

Volume 2 and 3 come out April 10th and June 12th...

That and I won't be able to watch them anyway when they do come out is the only thing keeping me from buying the BD D:

Yeah, the LE editions are insanely priced...but the Blu-rays are region free!

So I'll be saving up for those.

Madoka Magica Film Project to Be Trilogy (Updated) - News - Anime News Network
Atsuhiro Iwakami, the producer of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, is revealing in the December issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine on Thursday that the upcoming theatrical film project will be a trilogy. In particular, two films will be a compilation of the television series, while one film will be an all-new story.

Iwakami made the comments in an interview that also included director Akiyuki Shinbo (SHAFT), original character designer Ume Aoki, and writer Gen Urobuchi.

    [Via @loryHamon, Moe Ota-News Sokuhō]

Update: Urobuchi had already pretty much finished the final draft for the new film, and production is proceeding next. According to Shinbo, the subtitle of the new film is still undecided, but he really wanted to call it "Incubator no Gyakushū" ("Incubator Strikes Back" or "Incubator's Counterattack"). [Via Yaraon!]
So, if you haven't heard, Madoka's gonna have a trilogy of movies. First two are recaps of the anime, third is an all new story.

I'm wondering how the recaps will turn out. We just got the Blu-ray release which already remasters the anime on its own, so hopefully the movies are going give us a new perspective on things. I'd love some more insight into Homura's original timeline, for one thing.

As for the all-new story; looking forward to it.

I'm not exactly ecstatic about two movies dedicated to retelling. I'd rather have the money spent on two movies be used for the original third movie.

So does this mean that they are really going to explain the ending to Madoka now...?

"The Incubator Strikes Back"... followed by a fourth movie entitled: "Return of the Puella Magi" which after thinking about it, I can see it happening... at least plot wise...

Today I sent my details to confirm with Right Stuf that I exist, because I pre-ordered the volume 1 LE (Mum agreed to buy it for me as a late birthday present as long as I pay customs).

Also, the screenplay for the third movie is complete.
