Default Discussion of Currently Airing Animé

In this thread, you may discuss the current line-up of anime airing.

While mostly these discussions are aimed at the current season* other long running anime such as Detective Conan or One Piece which are currently airing are also included.

In case an anime currently airing starts getting a lot of discussion in this thread, you may be suggested to create a new thread for it to avoid clutter. When that is the case, those threads will be listed in this main one.

    List of relevant independent threads:

To check the list of anime of this current season, Fall, check the following links:

You may also check the following site to get a countdown of when a certain series' newest episode will next air in Japan: Countdown Anime: TV Series Episode

For your convenience, the following post contains a list of all the anime currently airing kept by the Land of the Rising Sun staff.

*Generally, a large batch of anime starts airing at a time per season (Spring, Summer, etc.), however, it's not unusual for those to surpass the season's time frame and run through others. All in all, seasons are just used as a starting point for anime and not necessarily the period they will air for.

The title in the first column is the Japanese Romaji name of the series. The second column has either the official English title, a translated title (in italics) or nothing (if there is no official English title and the Japanese name doesn't require translation). Only the first airing channel and date is listed for each anime series.

I left the staff and have no motivation to keep this up to date anymore, the following list is for summer 2012, a section moderator may use the table structure and update this if they wish.

This anime season apart from the big names hasn't caught my interest as much as the last two. However, I am keeping up with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Hiiro no Kakera, and Mysterious Girlfriend X. For bigger titles my attention is only with Fairy Tail, Pokémon and Naruto Shippuden because its out of fillers.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is probably my favourite series of the season. It started off as a fun mix of being spooky/comedy, and while I did worry at one point (around the fifth/sixth episode), the series was going too far down the comedy route it managed to pull itself back nicely by toning down the comedy to a level which better suited. The story is very interesting by this point with us slowing learning a lot more about ghost Yuuko and seeing the bond between her and Teiichi growing (Although anyone who seen the latest episode will know a lot has changed for now), enough so as to keep me looking forward to it each week and I really can't wait to see how it ends.

Hiiro no Kakera started off well, but I don't like how much the series has sort of slowed down over the last two or three episodes. At this stage it is badly lacking action, but because it's a Studio DEEN title and very pretty to look at I'll keep watching it through to the end in the hope it picks up again. xD

Mysterious Girlfriend X is just strange. It's the sort of series which shouldn't interest me, but does so greatly. It feels like development between Urabe and Tsubaki is slow and either very little will happen per episode in them building a bond, or a ton will happen. I don't like that much, but at the same time I'm curious to how this story overall will end.

I think I haven't picked up as many series as this season ever before. Of the currently running series, I'm following Accel World, Hyouka, Space Brothers, Medaka Box, Nyarlko-san, and Sakamichi no Apollon; additionally also Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki and Fairy Tail but behind in both due to relatively slow groups. And I'm collecting Fate/Zero and Gon for later viewing.

The weakest of the bunch are Nyarlko and Medaka Box. The first one doesn't seem to have a very easily distinguishable plot, has an annoying main character (the boy, and to some degree, Nyarlko too) and other oddities (like the first scene which was never explained properly). Medaka Box, in the other hand, has a plot, but runs too much on fanservice at times. The first half-episode from last week was great, though. Fairy Tail isn't as bad, but it is slowly tasting like a generic shounen mess, the same path Naruto and Bleach apparently went through.

The other series are certainly better. Sakamichi no Apollon has quite a mature plot and is completely devoid of pointless "boobs in your face" action, and the background music atmosphere is awesome as well, even if I'm not so much into jazz and related genres. Hyouka has top-notch animation by KyoAni and is somewhat exciting. Accel World takes partially place in a virtual environment, which is cool. Space Brothers is another of the mature plot department, and it's slowly developed to be my favourite series of this season.

It's kinda funny in that I was originally only looking forward to picking up Space Brothers and Accel World and nothing else. :p

Recently started Kingdom could arguably be called the first to start the summer season of 2012; here's a preview to the lineup in detail. Most of these series start in early July.

I'm myself looking very much into Sword Art Online; not very excited about the rest.

I wanted to start watching a new anime this season but none interest me at all. I'd watch the Pokemon anime but I haven't seen much of Best Wishes! at all so I'd kind of be jumping in blind. I'll probably give Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi and La Storia Della Arcana Famigila a go though. :3

Not really excited about the Summer Lineup, as nothing caught my eye, except maybe for La Storia Della Arcana Famigila. Even then, my expectations for that one are low, sadly, as it sounds like something that could be great and still gives me the vibes that it will topple itself over.

As for my picks for the Spring, I went with Uchuu Kyoudai, Sakamichi no Apollon, Shirokuma Cafe and Hyouka. None has really bored me to death, though Shirokuma Cafe tends to be a hit-or-miss (gotta love Polar Bear's trolling, though!) and so is Hyouka, which is fun...when they don't overdo the talking. As for Uchuu Kyoudai, it's a worthy watch, although the story tends to feel too linear / easy at times. My favourite one in this mix is, without doubt, Sakamichi no Apollon. Being a Josei (an audience to which I arguably belong to) with Jazz (I love Jazz!) it really hit the spot. I wouldn't go for it if you want Jazz only, though. Jazz obviously plays a major role but it's not alone in the jam.

I just watched the first episode of Kingdom a few nights ago--and all I can say is WOW!!!!

Without giving too much away, we have action, we have friendship, we have intrigue, we have power-hungry rulers, we have bloodshed, we have heartbreak, we have determination, we have suspense, and a plot twist you will NOT see coming as the cherry on top.

Did I mention this was JUST Episode 1?

Kind of sad that the Spring season is coming to an end since there a lot of good shows. As for the summer, I'm only planning on blogging Dog Days' Dash and Tari Tari in addition to Hyouka. I wonder how it will turn it...

Added a table of the next season's upcoming series, will merge it to the main table at some point. ^^ Feel free to suggest/correct the poor translations if you know the language better.

Well, a lot of summer shows have started airing. I've watched the first episodes of Yuru Yuri 2 and Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita. Anyone else?

Well, in addition to Sword Art Online I mentioned above, also now looking forward to Kokoro Connect and Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!. (Also expecting the last of the mentioned to be my season's compulsory bad show for some reason - we'll see...) None of them started airing yet, though. Also, continuing from last season, still following Fairy Tail, Hyouka, Accel World and Uchuu Kyoudai.

My pick for spring is Kuroko no Basket, of course!! It's got about 25 episodes, so it's going to continue till the Summer season XDD It is following the original manga very loyally, and the voice actors are awesome. Of course, basketball being a vigorous sport they can't show everything in detail, but the graphics are cool and the characters have very deep personalities as well as developments. The plot story is also interesting, and it just makes you want to see the next episode restlessly XDD I highly recommend it.

As for any new summer animes, I'm looking forward to Hakuouki 3 - Hakuouki Remi Roku and the OVA Sekkaroku - Chikage episode. The first two seasons had been very enticing and was a very lovely tragic. They say this is a prequel - and I am so excited XDD

Other than following shows that started on Spring (namely Hyouka and Uchuu Kyoudai), I'm still picking up new stuff as it airs. So far I've tried out the first episodes of Arcana Famiglia, Campione!, Tari Tari and Utakoi. It's yet too soon to know if any of them will rock, but all of them are nice, except for Campione!. I watched the pre-air and it was even bad at being generic. I dropped it after 5 minutes...though that's a bit unfair so I guess I'll give it another go eventually. I doubt it'll be much better, though.

First episode of Sword Art Online didn't disappoint, followed light novels to 100%, can't wait for upcoming weeks.
