Thread: Your favorite horror movie

Well, Halloween is coming up fast and one of the best things about it I think is watching a bunch of scary movies at night.

So what is your favorite horror movie of all time?

Mine is The Exorcist because it is the only movie that I have seen so far that has truely scared the crap out of me.

Zombieland for it's plain Twinkie awesomeness.

Alien and The Shining. The only good horror movies.

Chucky and The Ring. Creepy but scared the crap out of me for the longest time. Chucky's no longer scary, now he's awesome! But The Ring still scares the crap outta me.

The Exorcist is my favorite, followed by Halloween (1978).

The Shining, which is the only film to successfully scare me.

Nightmare on elm street is my all time favorite horror movie, Freddy is just plain awesome :3. The SAW series is another one that I enjoy, just because of how gruesome it is.

Poltergeist

When it comes to classic horror movies, John Carpenter's The Thing is pretty untouchable in my view. It's technically a remake, though it's a lot more faithful to the original short story ("Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell) than was the 1950s film, which ditched the central concept of the Thing being a shape-shifter. The first time I saw it (in a darkened university lecture hall on Halloween, so admittedly atmopshere was on its side) I remember being utterly terrified, but it also has a terrific storyline - I got completely caught up in wanting to know who the Thing had taken over and who would be the next to fall - and the chilling score and atmosphere make it just as unsettling on repeat viewings. It's scary, but it's also genuinely fun - I rate that infamous "blood test" sequence as one of the most deliciously evil and exhilarating that I've ever seen.

the ring kinda freaked me out a little. same with the grudge but i usually just make fun of it xD it's hard for me to find a good horror and/or gore movie because i either just get mad or laugh my ass off lol
the orphan pissed me off. so much.

Dawn of the Dead (1978 version) is my pick. It's got it all - good plot, action, romance, humour, fun, cool characters and the best music of all time, The Gonk.

The MarbleHornets Collection, though not a "movie", is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. I've never looked outside in the dark again.

But I still need to see Paranormal Activity, that looks like my kind of horror.

The Shining scared people? I liked it, but I was more confused than scared. Maybe I should read the book...

Anywho, my favorite scary movie is a tie between Amityville Horror (the ORIGINAL) and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I literally could not sleep the nights I watched those two. Maybe I'm just a pansy, but those movies are terrifying. From the subtleness-to-jump scares of Amityville to the plain old run-from-scary-guy concept in Texas Chainsaw, they knew what they were doing in those movies.
