Non gamers want games that look good. Same with gamers.

If HL1 came out in 2011, people would pan it for looking like crap. Low FPS games are even worse, when you have poorly coded games running at 15 FPS (See: Shadow/Sonic Heroes PS2 ports)

They can say pretty much the same thing with 8-bit games the first time they play it. It appears that everyone cares about graphics nowadays, what has our community become?

People care about graphics, but that's not the only thing they care about. Let's remember that good graphics can come in many forms. You can have anything from super polished realistic looking graphics (most FPS games now), colorful or cartoonish polygon and cel shaded graphics (Okami, Street Fighter 4 et al), or sprite based graphics. They can all look good in their own ways. Black and White are still good games, but the constant pixelation hurts its presentation.

Nintendo really needs to improve graphical, processing, and online capabilites to get a console that can attract casual and hard core gamers, since Microsoft and Sony are now courting both groups.

^ There really isn't anything wrong with no online capabilities since they're trying to attract gamers who play together in the same room rather than faraway with the likes of NBA Jam (third party) and New Super Mario Bros. Wii (first party). Plus you can't blame them for trying to prevent mic abuse (Ex: racism, sexism, etc) like all FPS games suffer from.

When the first part of the WiiU's name takes from the Wii, to emphasize bringing people together, its counter-intuitive for them to not have online

The problem is, when games with strong online are selling 11 million, and your system still uses FCs, then you are going to lose millions of sales.

You can make online without mandatory Wii speak. Online capabilities are very important now. Let's consider that the lack of online capabilities (and tech capabilities, but probably to a lesser extent) has caused basically all major third-party fighting game franchises to abandon the Wii, and those games have a sizable amount of hardcore gamers. Online play is pretty much mandatory for fighting games now. Even franchises that have released on the Gamecube (Soul Calibur) and Wii (Mortal Kombat) before have abandoned it.

Are you implying that Halo and CoD will always beat Mario and Pokemon in sales because of online play? Truly there is a problem with the gaming community.

If you watch the Game Anthropologist's video regarding the two sides, you'll see it shouldn't matter if you're please the hardcore gamers or not.

    Sorry, it's called change.

Gaming is ruined forever all the time, I remember when the Wii killed gaming with casual games.

As for Nintendo losing devs, it had to do with several factors, such as restrictiveness (SNES Mortal Kombat), Complexity and cartridges (N64), and finally poor sales and lack of online (Gamecube).

While the Xbox 1 and PS2 had ads showing off online play, the GameCube had.....only 1 online game, a rare BBA, and was advertising Cube-GBA link instead.

You're acting as if everything in gaming must be as dark and gritty as Halo and CoD while having online capabilities and Nintendo will soon fall for staying with their iconic franchises. Games Radar made an article regarding the 7 commandments of video game culture and managed how online gaming broke one of them, which is gamers playing together at the same room.

One site =/= the whole industry. Oh, and the original source was cracked.com

Just look at the tvtropes article for ruined forever:

Then the Sega Genesis, SNES, and better computer technology were going to ruin gaming forever because they didn't even bother to care about gameplay at all. They only cared about "Blast processing" and "Faux 3D Graphics", and now it brought about all sorts of kids who never even knew what Pac-Man was until it received its 95th port to the SNES or Genesis. Therefore they were not "real gamers". It seems a lot of them don't acknowledge how simply having more buttons on the SNES and Genesis, as well as the keyboard and mouse made it way more complex than the "dumbed down" messes some of these people complained them to be.

Wait till the next gen, people will be ripping on something else that will ruin gaming forever. Point is, gaming changes dramatically, it's not the same as it was in 1985.

Ok. I've seen, and heard a lot about the 'Wii U", so here I go.

The first thing I think of when I see the controller is "HOLY CRAP it looks heavy". I mean, it's so big, it just looks like that, you know?
Well, the game that I'm looking forward to the most is the Super Smash Bros. game. I heard that it could somehow connect to Brawl (Wi-Fi speaking), probably if the person you connect with has Brawl, and you have the newer one, you could connect and brawl with the person who has Brawl maybe...? Ok, moving on.

Then there is the Pikmin sequel, that, if I remember correctly was originally supposed to be on the Wii, but they pushed it to the Wii U for some reason. That announcement probably made Pikmin fans go CRAZY. I've never played a Pikmin game, so I'm pretty excited for that.

But the game that looks the best is that Legend of Zelda demo. With the items on the bottom touch screen, it makes it easier to switch between items and gear, its easier to view your health and magic, so on and so forth.

GAMECUBE GAMES ON VIRTUAL CONSOLE. YES. YES. PLEASE. Some GameCube games I'll be willing to buy, but others, like MK:DD, Pikmin and Pikmin 2, SSBM, Kirby Air Ride, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker I'll be happy to wait for. Maybe some more N64 games, please?

So...yeah...I'm done...I just noticed that everything I said has nothing to do with the posts above me, sorry...

Let's hope Nintendo learns from the 3DS and have a better launch line-up and puts more emphasis on its other features rather than just the controller, which, as we've seen from the E3 reveal, confused people.

Yeah, I have to agree. I mean, I'm definitely going to buy one (I am a Nintendo fanboy, after all), but I do hope that there will be a strong list of launch titles, too. The controller, itself, isn't going to cut it.
