Default UK fans snub Avengers DVD/BD release

Many UK Marvel fans expected the worse and the worse has happened.

Marvel's The Avengers (or as it's known in the UK, Marvel's Avengers Assemble) was released on DVD and blu-ray in the United Kingdom today. However, word about how terrible this release is have spread across the internet. First off, there's a lack of extras. Here's a list of the extras for the American version, which is due out next week:

    - Audio Commentary by Joss Weldon
    - Digital Download Album (for the 3D BD/BD/DVD/Digital version only)
    - “Assembling the Ultimate Team” Feature
    - “A Visual Journey” Feature (not on DVD)
    - Deleted Scenes (not on DVD)
    - Marvel One-Shot: Item 47
    - Second screen
    - Gag reel
    - Soundgarden music video - “Live to Rise”

    Now, for the UK extras:
    - Deleted Scenes
    - Gag Reel
    - Marvel One-Shot: Item 47
    - A Visual Journey

Well, that's an awful lack of extras for the UK release. Also, our version has been cut. It wasn't when it was released in the cinema (it got the 12 certificate), but the UK and other European releases (such as the German) have received some cuts. The only one that has surfaced so far (if there are more) is

While not the biggest cut, it's still the fact that it was cut in the first place that has pissed people off. The Italian version apparently does not have the cut, but the extras are the same as the UK one.

Also, there are retailer exclusive things. HMV have an exclusive steelbook, but Sainsbury's have an exclusive bonus disc (what extras are on the disc are unknown) - so you're forced to choose between the two.

The Finnish DVD release doesn't have any extras (except for the Visual Journey), all the good stuff is on the blu-ray. Laaaaaaaaame.

I was wondering why I didn't see it. So unless I just missed it, our version was cut too. This truly is the lamest.

I'm American at least, but boy does it suck to not get all the DVD features in a foreign release (plus a scene cut), at least you got the movie itself for one thing.

Ridiculous. Then they'll release it with the extras we should have gotten the first time round at an increased price.

And they wonder why people pirate. Because we keep getting cheated out of bonus tracks or commentary or something as basic as subtitles.

The BBFC are looking into the UK release as the cut means it falls foul of the Video Recordings Act.

Also, Disney UK are reporting no wrong doing and even telling people to import from the US.
