Fluttershy is the best character.

^ On sites I'm at she's 2nd-most popular, easily. She's really cute but not my fave.

"Fluttershy is mai waifu" is becoming a meme on its own. I just its because of her "moe" personality

But seriously, Twilight and Fluttershy are my favorite and second favorites, respectively.

Most people that I notice that love Fluttershy also love the "moé" stuff as well. I consider that to be a factor to her popularity.

Pinkamena (she wouldn't have switched to Pinkie in this timeline) would've stayed on the farm, retained her conservative hairstyle, and not been driven mad by the rainboom's shockwave or developed her physics-defying powers. Spending so much more time around rocks at this point, it would be inevitable that she'd finally discover her horn is actually sensitive to the gems inside rocks, rather than the rocks themselves. That would be just the kick-start the mining business needs, and Pinkamena would make Rarity a full partner and they'd begin buying up as much of the land around Ponyville and the Everfree Forest as possible.

Applejack would've stayed in Manehatten, eventually becoming a wealthy socialite moving in the same circles as her aunt and uncle. She could be one of the first investors in Pinkamena and Rarity's mining operations (having been let in on the secret of Rarity's talent), hosting fundraiser galas and otherwise assisting them in securing investments from other members of Manehatten's elite. The reason Pinkamena and Rarity would've chosen to confide in Applejack out of all the Manehatten elite, of course, was because they both somewhat remembered her from their schoolfilly days in Ponyville, before Applejack moved to the city.

After losing the race, Rainbow decided to give up flying for good, dropping out of flight school and confining herself permanently to the ground; living a mostly solitary life on the outskirts of Ponyville. She goes so far as to make her career beneath the ground, becoming an embittered, heart-broken laborer in one of Pinkamena's many mines.

Fluttershy still developed her love for the ground (this depending only on the beginning of the race, not Rainbow's victory), but not her special talent for communicating with animals; or at least not as quickly. I don't imagine things would've gone as differently for her as for the others, though, because even prior to the rainboom she was clearly getting along with all those animals extremely well. Given her personality, I do think she would've felt herself responsible for Rainbow's bitterness and self-imposed isolation. She would probably choose to live relatively nearby to Dash so she could maintain their relationship, keep tabs on her, and continue to make attempts to draw out her old spirit.

Scary thought D: And also, if the Rainboom didn't happen, the villain wouldn't have a reason to go back in time, right? Thus, the Rainboom would still occur.

Though that isn't usually how time travel works in fiction when someone is trying to change the past for evil purposes, lol; if the result was that kind of paraodox then there'd be no horrible future for the heroes to try and fix. The changes usually seem to ripple forward from the point of the change, but not actually affecting that instant itself; so the time-traveller/villain would be preserved in his current state.

Doesn't really make sense, but it works for sci-fi stories, anyway, lol.

I honestly don't know why TS is my top favorite. Everyone else seems to like RD the best. I guess there's something in TS that I can see that others can't? Maybe because she's the main character? Who knows?

She's also multi-faceted as a character: While she's serious most of the time, she has bouts of nerdiness/social naiveity (which comes off as adorable, adorkable if you will), and she's very funny when she snaps (Feeling Pinkie Keen and A Bird in the Hoof are great examples of this).

Although to be fair, all the main ponies are multi-faceted.

I actually get the impression that Twilight is pretty popular. She's certainly my favourite character: an empiricist and a misanthrope, how could I not love her? She's the perfect antidote to the crushingly bland lead characters in cartoons when I was growing up... the sort of focus-grouped, baseball capped personality vaccuum liked by everybody within the series and nobody outside it, who's so devoid of uniqueness that they get decribed as "someone who stands up for their friends", as if anybody on Earth doesn't, just to give them the fleeting illusion of a personality.

Personally, I find it really hard to choose between Rainbow and Pinkie as my favourite; so I don't really try and just consider them both to be equally favourite.

Twilight does seem to have won a number of "who's your favourite character" polls that I've seen. The show is unique, though, in that it really isn't hard to all to love all the main characters almost equally. Each of them can be quite hilarious and endearing in their own ways, though it took a few episodes before that became apparent in Rarity's case.

I'm kind of curious about BMGf's favourites now, though, so everyone feel free to vote in the new poll.

Oh, Twilight is totally my favorite. I'm not sure why, she just appeals to me as a character.

Same here for me. The only reason why I would put Dash above Pinkie is because blue is my favorite color. Silly reason, I know. :P
