I don't think it's that big of a deal considering it's only a spin-off. What would piss me off is if that took the place of the actual show.

I have been a brony since August 2011, and it's reflected in my username. Cadance and Shining Armor are so cute together. And I cannot wait until tomorrow either.

To be quite honest I'd watch it, especially since the Mane 6 being human is well interesting for sure.
And also I'm getting hooked on remixes. xD;
So, the season 3 finale...I'll sum it up in six words: too much singing, not enough plot. The basic concept of the ponies switching destinies and having to take up each other's duties was quite a nice one, but the whole thing was extremely rushed (obviously, they were in a hurry to get to the big dramatic finish; everything else was but a minor detail), and the heavy emphasis on musical sequences over everything else (I swear, there was more singing in this one than actual spoken dialogue) meant that they weren't able to squeeze a great deal of laughs or interesting moments out of the set-up. A shame, because it really did sound promising.
I actually really enjoyed this episode. I wasn't expecting it to be a musical episode, but the songs were great, the animation was good (can we say "increased budget for the finale?") and the whole destinies-being-switched was an interesting concept.
I do wish it hadn't been quite so rushed, since I had kind of hoped they would explore the switched-destinies concept a tad further; however, I do realize it kind of has to be that way to keep the attention of the primary audience, who at this point maybe have an attention span of 15 minutes. In any case, overall it was a fun episode, and I really enjoyed it.
Also, DERPY!

The episode would probably have been better split out over 2 eps, but the use of songs was a good way to do everything without it feeling too rushed. I really liked the songs.
I wonder what will happen to Twilight in ponyville now though, you've seen how these ponies react to Celestia and Luna. Seems a bit odd if Twilight would be the only princess that's gonna be ignored by bystanders when passing by.
Well, Twilight has been known in Ponyville prior to her coronation.
I actually really liked it. The songs were good and the story while short was sweet. It may've been "rushed" but the song we got out of it were a good tradeoff if anything. While it may not've topped season 2's finale, it does have me hooked for season 4 and what will become of Twilight. This is part 1 after all.
As for the Cutie Mark thing, I don't think the Cutie Marks were "telling" the ponies as in:
Pinkie's CM: Hey, burst into song already and get this party started!
Fluttershy: Um, okay... *sings terribly and upsets others*
Pinkie's CM: You call THAT a song!?
It's clear that history wasn't altered but rather the ponies' memories got altered when their cutie mark was swapped for another. I suppose they were subconsciously aware that something wasn't right and hence, they didn't show their "talents" well. I think they were just very confused as to why they couldn't do what they were supposedly good at.
In other words, this is not remotely a natural situation. This is very, very powerful magic forcing the rest of the Mane Six into new molds: the new cutie marks are imposed on them without any connection to their personalities, interests or talents, and their true selves clash with this imposition. Cutie marks are an internal thing manifesting externally; this is an external thing trying to force an internal change.

What I watched: Series finale
What I expected: More backlash than ever, plus a major cliffhanger (it was implied to be a 3-parter)
What I got: The exact opposite: Far less backlash and no loose plot threads. (though I wouldn't mind more details on Star-swirl. Was he one a bearer of Harmony before Twilight/Celestia, or something?)
Also, musicals. It's not even Tara singing it.
I wouldn't mind the show ending here, especially since it's episode 65 (as many cartoons end). But with season four coming, the show isn't over yet. I'm still counting on it being undone, or if not than more than a few major changes. I mean, they can't just leave a princess living in some hollowed-out tree in the boonies, can they?
I also sensed a MAJOR case of MST3K Mantra. Like they knew this would happen and continuously tried to calm the viewers down with Twilight's "everything'll be fine" lines. You know it's like, "It's a cartoon. What's to worry about? Get over it."
Thoughts on the season finale.
Overall, season 3 was a mixed bag. When it was good, it was amazing, but when it wasn't, it was simply average. None of the episodes were terrible, nothing to rival Mysterious Mare Do Well or Dragon Quest. (those are my least-favourite episodes) It could be the nostalgia goggles, but season 1 is still my favourite.
Who is this git?

My thoughts on the episode.
Bouffalant Herdier also pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly. And I agree, season 1 is still my favorite too.

I agree that this episode was rushed, but it was great nonetheless. The ceremony at the end was amazing. I'm disappointed that it wasn't a two-parter or anything though.
The finale was a bit corny, but I approve of the whole 'Princess' deal. :P
Also, radioactive humanized ponies? Do not want. I'd much prefer humanized ponies that look like they're from this planet.
For those who felt the episode was rushed - myself included - one of the writers said that the finale is the first episode of a 3 episode story. The first two episodes of the next season will deal with this more.
I laughed, I cried,
I puked a little in my mouth.
