Celestia isn't that bad of a character, but I honestly think there are better characters out there (well, more developed characters such as the villians, mane 6, etc.)

True but I wasn't complaining about people not being appealed by Celestia. It's how they make up crap about her like Trollestia and take things too far. The journal above explain more than I could ever.

I think "One Bad Apple" is my favorite episode of Season 3 so far, even though I'm not usually a big fan of CMC episodes.

I thought they addressed the idea of bullying in a surprisingly mature way, even compared to shows for older audiences. The fact that Babs decides to join the bullies in Ponyville because she was being bullied in Manehattan, and wanted to escape that, is something that is incredibly common with people who are bullied (as much as I hate to admit it, I definitely participated in some of that in middle school), but so many shows fail to address it or don't address it at all. I was really impressed to see it in a show for little kids, even if it was hitting you over the head with it sometimes. (Also, I was confused that, if the whole point of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon picking on the CMCs is that the latter are "blank flanks," why do they accept Babs into their group? But whatever.)

I wasn't a huge fan of the premiere, at least compared to other two-parters, and even as a Pinkie Pie fan I thought "Too Many Pinkie Pies" overdid it. But I really liked this episode. I even liked Pinkie better in this episode! The whole thing with her in the lettuce float was hilarious.

Just watched Magic Duel.

I found this episode great. Much better than last week's episode. Trixie uses something that empowers her magic, exiles Twilight, whom learns from Zecora, to beat Trixie. After Trixie gets the Alicorn Amulet (the writers actually used the word "Alicorn". Huh) removed, she becomes nicer. This is very good. Yes, very good.

Just Saw the new episode as well....

I did quite enjoy it, and was very surprised when they said Alicorn instead of something weird like Winged Unicorn or something, which was possibly yet another nod to the Fandom. Then onto the duel, I really like Trixie and how she was developed in this episode, with a 'fuel for revenge' and other things like that. There were alot of Refrences to, Like the Alicorn, another Fluttertree reference, and strangely... Saddle Arabia. I wasn't sure what they were going for, but there were alot of 'Terrorist Pony' jokes thrown around throughout the internet.

All in all, a very good episode. Makes me leaving for more ponies, which shall be giving next week, same time

I liked this episode a lot more than Trixie's first episode. And I really enjoyed all the nods to previous episodes; that pretty much made the episode for me.

Yeah, I agree with @Insanish Danish; I prefer this one to the earlier Trixie episode, where I felt like "what was all the fuss about?"

When they called it the "Alicorn Amulet" I expected that it would give turn Trixie into an alicorn, giving her wings - I was a bit bummed when that turned out not to be the case. But whatever, it was still awesome! And I guess it makes sense in that Trixie arriving with wings would have made it more obvious that she had "leveled up" from last time.

When Twilight arrived with the new amulet, I knew it was fake, and I thought since the spells were working better it was due to her training and improving her concentration with Zecora, so the reveal left me completely surprised! I also thought "use the six" would mean they'd use the elements at some point.

Snoutless Pinkie was hilarious. I love how the first thing she did when she got it back was take a huge breath.

My one complaint is having Twilight zap away the parasprites she created does create a bit of a plothole for that episode.

Episode thoughts:

Excellent episode. The best one of season 3 so far. It had continuity to previous episodes such as the parasprites and what happened to Trixie after Twilight proved she wasn't so powerful. It was also chuck full of fanservice and nods to the fandoms such as using "alicorn", Fluttertree, Rule 63 Applejack/Ponies, fillies of the Mane6 and more if I'm not mistaken. Really entertaining and pretty dark. Pinkie losing her mouth was the funniest part. And even a Star Wars reference with Twilight's training with Zecora, which was awesome.


All in All, I'd give a 10/10

When I first heard about the Magic Duel episode, I feared it would be bad because I thought it would just be fan-service, and boy, were my expectations blown away.

They pulled this episode off so well, Trixie's character was more fleshed out than it was back in Boast Busters, which is good, and I found Zecora's training methods very interesting. I'm really hoping that wasn't the last time we saw Trixie in the show, but even if it was, she'll be forever remembered by the fandom, much like Discord.

This episode most definitely receives a 10/10 from me.

I had so high expectations of this episode, and yet didn't get disappointed! This episode was so incredibly awesome. I just loved everything about it. The plot was great, it kept me on my toes throughout the episode, and the reveal was cool too. And then the end. I loved the end. I don't think I've ever got such a big uncontrollable smile on my face ^^

Let me be honest:
I don't like Trixie, not even a little. After this episode, I still don't care to see her anymore.

But even then, this episode was amazing!
Everything was well-executed, and the final duel was humorously played up.

Really, this season just keeps topping itself with better episodes. Here's hoping next week's will be even better (It has to be—It's our first Scootaloo episode.)

Great episode, enjoyed it very much.

I've always felt Trixie was treated poorly by the Mane characters during her first appearance; She was a bit of a braggart, I'll admit, but that was part of her magic act. I was surprised that she seemed much worse now, but equally relieved that the Alicorn Amulet was responsible for her drastic change and that she had the chance to make amends. Now Boast Busters won't make me so uneasy anymore.

Loved all the references to past episodes and Trixie's rule of Ponyville was fun to see. The episode seemed a little quiet without Pinkie's mouth, though. XD

I think Magic Duel is the best of the season so far, too. It helped me feel better about season 3; before this episode, I've been a little disappointed with the season for various reasons.

My thoughts on S3E05:

First of all, I'm SO glad that it wasn't a huge fanservice episode! That's what I feared.

Like many of the rest of those who posted about this episode, I think snoutless Pinkie was the best part. And also how she played all those instruments again. Whenever Twilight gave her those instruments, I was like, "wait, Pinkie can do that anyway!" Fluttershy comes in a close second. I almost lost it when she yelped, "WHAT?!" It was perfect.

I'm also pretty glad the genderswap spell was a fake. That would have been too much fanservice. I know I'm saying "fanservice" a lot, but I just know that too much fanservice can ruin a show and I would be really sad if that happened.

Overall, TONS of continuity and not a total fanservice episode! Fantastic episode, as is to be expected from the developers (especially writer M.A. Larson) Two hooves up. Or perhaps, two Pinkie-fingers up.

The episode was pretty fun to watch though. loved the look of the ponies from Saddle Arabia.

Same reason why the Springfieldians didn't dig outside of the dome in the Simpsons Movie.
