Thread: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I'm actually pretty shocked that there isn't a thread on such a huge game here yet. This Thanksgiving weekend I'm spending at school and have spent a pretty good deal of it getting more into the game. I'm only about 25 hours into it so far but I'm trying to get through the main quest and train myself out of the "talk to everyone" strategy I always use in games because I'll just keep getting more and more quests and I'll never be able to finish them all, lol.

So how are you liking the game so far? Any amusing/shocking/funny stories? Have you hit any gamebreaking glitches, or do you only find them funny?

Shoot a dragon corpse with an Apprentice level destruction spell...AFTER you've looted it, of course. the result is completely hilarious.

The College of Winterhold quests are...difficult at low level. Particularly the second to last, when you fight a Dragon Priest.

Dragon Priests are some of the most dangerous enemies in the game, and they're all unique. The two I've encountered (One at Shearpoint, the other in Labyrinthian) were both deadly. Particularly be wary of the Shearpoint Word Wall, as it's a dragon shrine and a dragon nests there. You do not want to fight both the dragon priest AND the dragon (though, oddly enough, the Dragon Priest is the more dangerous of the two).

Tip: Smithing is really easy to level. And you can make some insanely strong armor if you stick to it, both heavy and light.

That's interesting! I began the Winterhold quests, but then it became "go into this crypt" and for some reason almost all the quests I've gotten involved going into tombs and crypts and graves and final resting places and I'm easily scared so I left it in favor of the main quest. (: Am I the only one that seems to constantly be going into tombs though?

I'm absolutely in love with this game... As I have been with the entire series. ^^;

I've already played through all of the guilds... And I'm loving them all. The Dark Brotherhood, though, stole my heart as it did in Oblivion.

The only experience that I've had with them so far is them trying to kill me and the little kid trying to summon them. I kind of want to destroy them just because I think that sounds like a fun option.

Speaking of destroying things I still can't decide if I want to aid the rebellion or the Imperials. ): If I don't learn any more about it I might just aid the rebellion just to see what happens when you overthrow an empire, haha.

I prefer the Empire. Something about aiding a group of Nord supremacists doesn't really fit my taste. xD

That bothers me too, especially since I'm a Wood Elf so they probably hate me haha, but there's also the factor that my fancy powers were given to me by Talos unless I'm missing something, the same person that the Empire outlawed worship of. It seems wrong to support them under those circumstances, but I'm not sure the alternative is any better. @-@ And then I heard somewhere that Ulfric defeated the King in an official duel for the throne and that the Empire just doesn't want to honor the contract between the two and I'm not sure whether or not that's true so...maybe I'm just reading too much into it haha.

I thought Akatosh was the one in charge of Dragonborn? I may be wrong, though. ._.

And I play two main characters, mostly. My dashing Breton swashbuckler/sorcerer, and a vampiric Argonian assassin. Neither of them are much liked by the Stormcloaks. xD I think I would support the Empire, even though I haven't actually joined either side. It makes sense to outlaw the worship, to me. The Thalmor made it part of the treaty... Not worshiping a certain god is better than death of an entire empire, to me, at least. :S

The whole god thing confuses me a lot in Skyrim. Like the Dragonborn are all the heirs of Tiber Septim, who became Talos, but they get their power from Akatosh, so...xD;;

That is true, that that was the only reason the Empire actually survived. I'm really curious as to why though, I'm guessing I'll find out later in the story or maybe in the rebellion/Imperial questlines but I haven't learned it yet.

SPEAKING OF THALMOR. I was running across a bridge today and saw a person floating horizontally at about chest level towards me. I thought it was some kind of spirit and fired up my magic to let go. When it came into range it was labelled a Thalmor Justiciar or something and she said "You're interfering with official Thalmor business" without stopping...and swam away through the air. Hilarious.

Edit: Loool: "Tiber Septim was born on the island kingdom Alcaire, in High Rock, as Hjalti Early-Beard." Early-Beard? That's the best name ever.

Something you might be interested in: On the Main Quest, in the Civil War quests, AND in the College of Winterhold quests, the same group keeps popping up, all in an antagonistic role:

The Thalmor.

I sided with the Stormcloaks on my first character because the opening sequence really soured me to the Imperial Legion. That, and you should hear the speech that Ulfric gives to his general when you first enter the palace in Windhelm. It literally sent chills down my spine. Ulfric's reasons for going to war are entirely legitimate.

I have no doubts that I'll side with the Stormcloaks on one of my characters, eventually. Maybe my Argonian assassin... Turns out, the Dark Brotherhood and the Empire have a little "conflict." I don't want to spoil it, but the final few Dark Brotherhood quests are absolutely amazing.

Tiber Septim/Talos has always confused me. I just keep myself thinking that he was a human hero-king, who was heroic enough to be ascended to godhood. I've always been far more interested in the Daedric Princes... Which, by the way, are awesome in this game.

It's not so much that they have a conflict, it's just a contract. I did the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but I still sided with the Empire. I just hate how they've become puppets of the Aldmeri Dominion. Ulfric just seems power hungry, and the first time I went to Windhelm and heard his speech, it was pretty obvious he just wanted power.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking the Empire, more the Penitus Oculatus.

So this is one of the few MAJOR problems I've encountered with Skyrim (the other being with the Blood on The Ice quest, but eh). First, a bit of back story so everyone fully understands the problem.

I picked up Joining the Stormcloaks, but never really felt like bothering to kill the Ice Wraith at Serpentstone Isle. So it simply sat in my Journal and I went on my merry way, completing various other quests and following the main quest from time to time. Eventually, however, I picked up Season Unending, so I took myself to Windhelm to smack Ulfric into going to High Hrothgar for the peace council.

However, when I got there and tried talking to him, I wasn't given the option to tell him about the council. Instead, Ulfric kept saying "Gamal gave you something to do. So go do it!" every time I tried speaking to him. Irritated, I finally went out to Serpentstone Isle, killed the Ice Wraith, and returned to claim my spot as a Storrmcloak.

When I got back, Gamal and Ulfric were discussing something called the Jagged Crown, which Ulfric then said he would send me with Gamal to retrieve it. I thought "sure cool whatever" and went to talk to Ulfric after the whole discussion was over. Again, though, I wasn't able to actually speak to Ulfric. Now he was saying "Talk to Gamal, he has something for you to do" or something along those lines, idr off-hand. Growing irritated once more I went to talk to Gamal...and all HE says is "I can't believe you convinced Ulfric to talk to the Empire. Seems more like a waste of time" or something like that. You can imagine my frustration at this because I never had the CHANCE to talk to Ulfric about the damn council, so why does the game seem to assume I did? Under the quest list "Talk to Ulfric" is still not complete for Season Unending, so I can't figure out why the heck the game seems to think I've talked to him about the council.

I can only think of two things to fix this. One would be to go back WAAAAAY before I even picked up Season Unending and complete Joining the Stormcloaks before picking up Season Unending. The only problem with that is everything I'll have to go through again, which I REALLY don't feel like doing, and at the moment it's not really a viable option for me. The other thing is maybe going to get the Jagged Crown and see if maybe I can complete Joining the Stormcloaks without talking to Gamal about it. Of course it probably won't work, but I'm willing to give it a shot and see if it'll fix things.

In the likely event that I cannot go get the Jagged Crown without speaking to Gamal first, is there anything else I can do other than restarting from before getting Season Unending and playing through God only knows how much content all over again? I mean this isn't just some random side-quest this is holding up; it's the main quest I can't complete, on top of a side-quest. I love Skyrim but this is quickly putting me off playing just because it's such an annoying bug.

Also, about the Blood on the Ice quest...I can't get Jorlif or whatever his name is to give me any information on the murder, and when I try to investigate the murder scene nothing happens. I assume I can still continue the quest by finding the mage and stuff, right? Not too concerned about that but figured I'd ask here real quick instead of making another thread about it.

Also sorry if this isn't in the right section, though I'm pretty sure it is lol.

It's just a bug. I can't complete "In My Time of Need." Try joining the Legion, unless you're an Imperial hater, restart/load an autosave, or pray for a patch. If you're playing on PC, try some console commands.
