Other people's opinion of a film can affect the quality of a film? You know what, I haven't a clue about what we're arguing about now.
Back on topic; Disney making a new Star Wars film, is in my opinion just another example of the awful trend of only continuing popular film franchises through new sequels or prequels. What ever happened to originality?

Yes, for those of you who dislike the prequels/special editions, even worse than that.

^Is like Jaws minus SpielbergStar Wars without Lucas
@H-con; you aren't the only one<is alsoI, personally, am furious
Star Wars as a whole should have been left as it was with Lucasfilms as the sole owner

More seriously, I'm not so much a fan of the movies as I am the EU (especially post-RotJ), so I'm more worried with what'll happen to that...

First of all, I have no idea what you're trying to say here with the mention and all.
In any case, did you see the prequel movies? If anything, Star Wars needs to get away from Lucas. He was the main reason to why prequel sucked so badly.
Think of it this way. I would hardly say Disney fucked up "The Avengers". Looking at Lucasfilm's track-record, I can't really say the same. While I'm skeptical to the "movies every two or three years", I think there is no way they can fuck up bigger than Lucas himself did. Hell, he even decided to fuck up some parts of the original trilogy by filling them with crap. Got to have things going on all the time!
Remember the last time Disney made a sci-fi movie? Yeah, it flopped pretty good. Just throwing that out there. What ever happened to originality?
(not that I'm opposed to making new things, I'm just saying this makes more sense economically at least. Well, the first new SW movie will be the judge of that, I guess)
So what does this mean to the 3d re rereleases?

I was certainly spooked when I heard about this (and it's Halloween too no doubt), but I do wonder one thing about this, and that is: What could they do that's worse than Jar Jar Binks?
Still, remember that Disney saved the Marvel movie franchise, so give them credit for that.
Apparently, they're ignoring the EU. It's probably for the best, even though some people would've loved to see a Legacy of the Force trilogy.
