Ranger Elisa Fleming

NBP#1

I took a deep breath as I pushed the door of the Ranger's Headquarters open. I was rather nervous for I hadn't been in here for quite some time now. I wondered if anything changed... Ah, who was I kidding? Of course there would have been changes - being away for months, perhaps even a year, was surely enough time for some modifications to occur.

A number of rangers were lounging around the main area - not much change there. While I did see some familiar faces, I saw some new ones as well. I made a mental note to get to know them one of these days. Since they all seemed to be busy in their own little world, I managed to slip by them pretty easily.

The structure of the building hadn't changed, at least it seemed that way. Remembering my way around here, I quickly found my old room/office. It was locked. I expected it to be anyway. I turned and went back the way I came to retrieve the keys from the receptionist-slash-secretary.

I noticed a couple of folders stacked neatly to one side of the silver-colored counter, and promised myself I'd take one of the waiting trainers soon. But first, I had to clean up my office and see if I had any leftover paperwork to do.

This proved to take longer than I thought - especially the dusting up part. There were boxes all around the room, and my computer had accumulated quite a lot of dust on its surfaces. Once everything was as neat and tidy as it could be - or at least as clean as it was before I had taken a haitus - I cut open one of the smaller boxes, which contained the paperwork I was dreading. Setting this aside for the time being, I moved on to the next one which held my ranger gear. My extra sets of clothes were there, along with a couple of accessories. The next box contained other Park items like repellants, herbs, Parkballs, apricorns, a camera, PokeDolls, voice disks, and the like.

"Where is my RDA?" I asked out loud, despite being the only one in the room. I almost jumped in surprise when another voice answered me.

"Hey Elisa," James (Chainy) said, as I turned around to see his head peeking into the room. "Good to see you around again."

"Nice to see you, too, James. It's been a while, huh?" I replied, shaking his hand.

The next couple fo minutes were spent with the head ranger giving me a run-down of the changes that had occurred in the Park when I was gone, as well as the additions of some features. Once he deemed me ready enough to take on another run, he decided to hand me a first timer's file.

I had soon forgotten about my missing Ranger's Digital Assitant - its whereabouts pushed to the back of my mind for the time being. I read through Voltaire's file. The Botanic Gardens was our location today, and he was bringing with him a Lucario and Flygon - not bad Pokemon, not bad at all.

Deciding to take Denise, Adrian and Abby with me, I released my Gallade to teleport me to the Gardens.

{It's to the Botanic Gardens today, Adrian,} I told him, to which he replied with a sigh, <Again?>

I rolled my eyes. {What do you mean "again"? We haven't been there in months! In fact, I've missed its wide open area with cool, soothing breezes. It's a really nice place, if you ask me.}

The Psychic-Fighting-type made no further comment, and with that, we were enveloped in a bright blue bubble. It glowed with Psychic energy as it transported us into the designated area of the Park, bit by bit, atom by atom. I felt myself being pulled, my stomach churning and flipping this way and that.

Upon arrival at the entrance to the Gardens, I recalled Adrian into his Pokeball for I knew he wasn't really keen on going around this place. I brought out another companion - my Ambipom, Abby - and there we waited for the trainer.

I stepped off the bus and faced the Front Gate of the National Park. I was shocked at the huge land area the Park covered. I headed straight to Botanic Gardens which was ahead of the Registation Desk where I first registered for entry.

The Botanic Gardens was a wide plains full of colorful flora and fauna as I see it through its entrance. I saw a person, who is in the uniform of a Ranger, standing beside her Ambipom. I walked closed to her and asked, "Are you the Ranger I was supposed to go with?" and I told my name after it.

A few minutes later, my eyes caught sight of a young man walking towards the entrance of the Gardens. He came closer to me and asked, "Are you the ranger I was supposed to go with?" then proceeded to introduce himself.

Smiling, I nodded my head and said, "Well, my name's Elisa Fleming, but you can call me Elisa. Or ranger. Or whatever else you can think of." I laughed sheepishly. "And, yeah, I'm your ranger for today." I gestured over to the slightly ajar metallic gate of the Botanic Gardens, asking for the trainer to follow me.

We slipped through the gates, with Abby happily skipping next to me, bounding on her strong hand-like tails, as I led Voltaire down the trail. The path was decorated with beautiful flowers sprouting at its sides, the grass swaying in the cool breeze. The place was quiet in a soothing way, not totally silent but not disruptively noisy either. One could faintly hear the Pokemon cries and chirps in the distance, carried over and then away by the wind. In the bushes, I could see some creatures playing around, but they didn't seem to take notice of us - either that or they simply were not interested in battling.

Deciding to strike up conversation while we explored the area, I turned to Voltaire. "Is there something you're particulalry interested in catching?"

"Want to battle that Shroomish?" I personally wanted one of those, though had never encountered any of them in the wild before.

Elisa talked to me, as if trying to open up a conversation, "Is there something you're particulalry interested in catching?"

I replied to Elisa, "Oh, nothing in particular. Just trying my luck at it."

Right at that moment, out of the corner of my eye, I saw movement underneath a pile of fallen leaves. Shaking off dust, a mushroom-like Pokemon revealed itself. Frilled segments overlapped its round, green underside where its small feet could be found.

"Want to battle that Shroomish?" Ranger Elisa asked me, hiding some kind of interest from me.

"A Shroomish, huh?" For me, Shroomish are cute, and they evolve into powerful Pokémon that many Trainers love to use. "I'll battle that one!" I said as I took the Poke Ball of my Lucario.

I threw Luke's Poke Ball in the air. While in mid-air, a red light exited through the button of the Poke Ball. The light materialized, turning into Lucario, a jackal-faced, bipedal, blue-and-yellow furred Pokémon. He looked very hasty and energetic. "Luke, use ExtremeSpeed to go nearer, then damage him with Force Palm!" I commanded.

The Lucario dashed through the Shroomish until he looked like a blur, and he halted when he was near the mushroom Pokémon. Then, he put his paws into the face of the Shroomish and suddenly, a surge of power slammed the mushroom Pokémon.

OOC: (spoilered cos it's rather long, but well worth the read so you can undestand the Park better :3)

This might be a bit hard to take in at first, but you might be surprised at how much damage a certain attack does in the Park as opposed to ref calc'ing it. Damage percentages are mostly determined by the quality of roleplay (of course, since this is your first time into the Park, I've been a bit lenient) - as with status effects, accuracy, and a lot more. Even if a move has, say, 50% chance of inflicting a status ailment, this high percentage can be disregarded by the ranger if he/she thinks that the post was not good enough to merit this kind of "advantage." What also comes into play is the MCR - rangers may choose to lower the damage dealt by a certain move if the trainer's character count is still very far from the minimum amount needed; this is to prevent KO'ing or lowering the Pokemon's health way too much without even nearing the needed MCR. Also keep in mind that sometimes, rangers may put a certain twist into the battle (perhaps by inducing a status effect onto the trainer's Pokemon) to elicit a reaction and/or to gauge how creative a trainer is - it's something for the trainer to react upon/ponder about, which would most likely increase MCR as well as bring out the creativity of one's mind, allowing for a better quality post. ^_^ Now, how exactly do you make your post longer and more meaningful? You could start by redescribing how your Pokemon executed the attack, and how the wild Pokemon reacted. You can also include emotion - what were you feeling as you watched the battle unfold? What were your Pokemon feeling? Or perhaps you can elaborate on your train of thought with regards to choosing which move to use next, or maybe a flashback to a past event that has taight you something that you could use in this battle. Stuff like that - just let your imagination and creativity flow! :D

"I'll battle that one!" Voltaire announced as he grabbed hold of a red-and-white ball. I nodded my head in acknowledgement, approving of his decision.

With a toss of the Pokeball, the trainer summoned out Luke, his Lucario, in a bright zap of white light. The Steel-Fighting-type emerged, taking on a battle stance, as if very much keen on getting the fight started. He looked to his trainer for orders, excitement gleaming in his eyes.

"Luke, use ExtremeSpeed to go nearer, then damage him with Force Palm!" Voltaire told him. The Pokemon nodded, and hastily gathered up the energy needed to execute what was asked of him.

I'd say it was a good decision on the trainer's part to order a move like Extremespeed, considering his Pokemon's nature. It was very much evident that Luke was just itching to battle and get things overwith, so a speedy attack like Extremespeed suited him perfectly.

A blinding flash of light enveloped the Lucario, much like the one he had emerged from when Voltaire had released him from his Pokeball. He leapt forward, pushing firmly against the grass with his feet while also relying on the force surrounding him to swiftly propel him onward. In his wake was a trail of little white sparks, just bursting with energy.

As he neared his target, the glowing silhouette around him started to fade. It was soon replaced by a redish-brown hue that was bubbling around the edges of his palms.

Thanks to his speedy first move, the Lucario had closed the gap between him and the Mushroom Pokemon in an instant - which very much surprised the Grass-type. He hadn't expected the Steel-Fighting-type to be right in front of him within a blink of an eye, and so was caught rather off guard when palms filled with Fighting-type energy slammed into his face, sending him tumbling backwards.

Once he had recovered from his surprise, the Shroomish decided it was time to strike back and powered up. He charged straight at Lucario, scoring a rather direct hit as well. Butting his head into the Pokemon, he put all of his energy and body weight into that one blow, making sure that his efforts were not in vain. Luke might have been rather resistant to these types of attacks, but with the force at which the wild entity had retaliated, he definitely took a good amount of damage himself.

The Aura Pokemon let out a defiant growl, rather impatiently awaiting Voltaire's next orders. Meanwhile, his opponent seemed to be glaring him down, as if calculating his next moves, and seemed to be planning one of his own...

"Good job on that, Luke!" I praised my Lucario on his great effort. I quickly sent my orders to him since he was getting impatient. "A Quick Attack so you could get a distance nearer, then use Metal Claw!"

After sending my orders, I could imagine how that worked. Luke would dash through the Shroomish. Quick Attack is fast, but is slow in comparison to ExtremeSpeed. Luke's body would swift through the verdant grass of the Gardens and the wind would be diverted in his moves. As it reached the Mushroom Pokemon, the Lucario's claws would extend and glow with a white aura. Then, his Metal Claw attack would slash the Mushroom Pokemon's body.

Meanwhile, the Mushroom Pokemon was still silent, as if calculating probabilities.

I sense something about the Shroomish's actions, so I commanded Luke once again, "Luke, use Detect. Don't let the Shroomish escape your eyes."

The Lucario did as I told, although I can sense that he thought twice on doing it. He stared at the Shroomish, as if analyzing the Shroomish's next moves.

Sensing his Pokemon's impatience, Voltaire quickly praised the Lucario then called out another set of moves. "A Quick Attack so you could get a distance nearer, then use Metal Claw!"

So this was his strategy, I realized, but said nothing - for now at least. He seemed to be the type who used speedy moves to; one, get as close to the opponent as possible; two, to catch the said target off guard and take advantage of its shocked reaction. Seeing as how the Shroomish had reacted rather violently to the earlier ExtremeSpeed, there was a high probability that this Quick Attack would elicit a similar reaction out of him. However, nothing was for sure - there was still another possibility that the Mushroom Pokemon had learned from his previous mistake of not being alert enough, and was now paying very close attention to every move of the Lucario; he might be able to predict Luke's next move, considering the base strategy of this one was pretty much the same as his previous attack.

I now focused my attention on the Steel-Fighting-type. Quick Attack was not as swift as his previous ExtremeSpeed, but I thought that that was alright considering the gap between the two Pokemon wasn't that large anyway. He surged forward, propelled once more by rays of white energy that glowed around his legs and feet.

A fraction of a second later, the spikes on top of the Aura Pokemon's paws started to shine brightly as well. They radiated a vivid silver hue as they grew longer and longer, filled with Steel power. Once the growth stage was complete, it was evident that they had transformed into large sharp claws, ready to hack away at any enemy Pokemon.

Luke wasted no time in slowing down from the Quick Attack. His metal claws were long enough to reach the opponent with ease, allowing him to strike from a distance. It was as though he was on a rampage - he just kept on slashing away at the Grass-type, blow after blow, slice after slice. The poor Mushroom Pokemon howled out in pain, releasing a puff of spores from the opening atop him in the process. While he hadn't exactly been caught off guard by the Lucario's sudden and speedy attack, he certainly took a significant amount of damage from the fine-edged claws of the trainer's partner.

Upon hearing the wild entity's cry, a determined gleam twinkled in Luke's eye - after all, he wanted to get things done quickly. However, it was as though he could not bring himself to move. The cloud emitted by the Shroomish settled around the Aura Pokemon, allowing sparks of electricity to seep into his bloodstream and prevent him from moving his limbs. The only thing he could do was give the opponent a steely glare, very much annoyed with his current predicament. He could only eye this wild Pokemon warily, as his limbs were not cooperating with what he wanted to do. He could not prevent the Grass-type's next attack from hitting him dead on.

Realization dawned on me like a light bulb suddenly coming to life and bringing light in dark time. "Effect spore," I managed to utter, turning to look at Voltaire, gauging his reaction. Shock? Anger? Frustration? Or was he just deep in thought?

Meanwhile, there was a glimmer of happiness and hope in the Mushroom Pokemon's eye. Grabbing the opportunity, he released a bright lime-green beam from the top of his head. This ray of energy enveloped the paralyzed Lucario, sucking his energy from him. A good deal of his power was drained by the attack, and the nutrients were transported back to the Shroomish as the green light zipped its way back to its owner, healing the Grass-type.

The wild Pokemon wasn't done yet, though. A white orb could be seen forming atop him as he gathered more energy to make the ball grow larger. I had a vague idea of what the move was, considering the fact that it wasn't a perfect circle - more oblong or seed-like. It was on the verge of release, but the Mushroom Pokemon wanted it to be a very strong attack, and thus was powering more Grass-type energy into that seed.

I wondered how Voltaire would react to this. I hoped he could think of a way around this, or else things could start to get rather ugly.

OOC: Don't worry too much about the paralysis - it's mostly just so that you can; one, write about more things, two, let out some emotion, and three, allow your mind to flow. Everyone's creative in their own way so I'm sure you can think of something :> It will definitely make your next post more interesting and of a higher quality :3 Looking forward to what you can think of! Just let your emotions flow - let out your character's anger/frustration/worry/etc because of that paralysis.

"Uh oh," I sighed as I saw Luke's condition and the Shroomish's reaction. The Effect Spore ability of the Mushroom Pokemon took effect and caused paralysis to Luke. Meanwhile, Luke started to look frustated. I can't think clearly on this situation. I thought of an idea, but it would work? I think I should try, "Luke, try to use Heal Pulse for a while. In the meantime, could you try evading the Shroomish with Quick Attack? I know you're paralyzed, but please do it as most as you can."

If Luke can perform his moves despite his condition and behavior, he would produce an aura that would help him heal a little of his health. Or better yet, it could somehow heal his paralysis. Heal Pulse is something I don't use usually, and I am wondering on how it works.

Another thing that would probably fail is Quick Attack. Luke likes attacking, but I had to use this move to evade until the paralysis ever fades off. Still, I had to trust my Lucario.

I could only watch as the Shroomish pumped more Grass energy into the continuously growing seed above him. It was now probably twice as big as the entity himself, looking like a bomb more than anything.

The worry was evident on Voltaire's face, as was the concentration as he tried to think of a way out of this, er, mess. After a few crucial moments of contemplation, he finally managed to call out, "Luke, try to use Heal Pulse for a while. In the meantime, could you try evading Shroomish with Quick Attack?" I could detect the hopefulness in his voice, along with the firm trust and faith he had in his Pokemon.

A grunt of acknowledgement came from the Steel-Fighting-type as he perseverantly fought against the electric currents polluting his bloodstream. Seconds ticked by slowly, as if taunting us as each passed by, adding to the pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if beads of sweat broke out on both trainer and Pokemon's foreheads.

But, just when all hope seemed lost, the Lucario suddenly glowed with a bright blue aura, reigniting the hope within us. He could still do this, he could still fight back - he wasn't going to back down so easily. This energy seemed to be curing Luke, fighting against the paralysis controlling him.

There was a contorted expression of pain on the Aura Pokemon's face though - like it was taking every last bit of his strength to compete with the electricity coursing through his veins. And just when there seemed to be some healing occurring, the Mushroom Pokemon thought it a good time to release his attack.

The large seed soared into the air, launched directly at the pre-occupied Lucario, and split into several smaller bombs. The smaller orbs, still packed with much power, dispersed from the original sphere in different directions, covering a large part of the area - as if it was raining gumballs, I mean, seeds. And, in a way, it really was.

"Crap," I muttered under my breath as my eyes caught sight of a couple of green orbs heading our way. Even though Voltaire and I were not in the battle, per se, the bombs had dispersed far enough and wide enough that a quite a number were heading our way. "Hide behind the trees!" I shout, noticing the cluster of tall, big-leafed trees around the area. I dived to take cover, my Ambipom following me - hopefully the trainer had done the same.

A look of worry and panic spread over Luke's face, causing him to lose his concentration. The energy around him suddenly stopped glowing, then vanished completely, leaving him stronger, but not quite fully healed. Lucky for him, Heal Pulse had left him with just the right amount of strength to overcome paralysis - at least for the time being - and initiate the Quick Attack... But no one could really tell how long Luke could keep this up - fighting tendrils of electricity in your blood was a tall order, even for strong Pokemon like Lucario.

As before, white rays of light began to shimmer around the Steel-Fighting-toye's legs and feet, allowing him to outspeed most of the bombs coming his way. My eyes trailed his quick movements - mostly just blurs - as he sped around the battlefield, trying to dodge every single seed the wild Pokemon had fired at him (and us).

Every now and then, orbs would sizzle past him, dealing some amount of damage to the Aura Pokemon. A few would leave a scratch or two, but for the most part, he was able to evade a good number of them. It was just a shame that paralysis took its toll on him once again, slowing him down and allowing the last few bombs to rain down on him, leaving him rather bruised. If it wasn't for his earlier Heal Pulse, his health would've been less than half by now.

Luke let out another growl of frustration as he came to a full stop, feeling the electrical energy send shocks through his whole body. It was conquering him, no doubt. And if he surrendered to this force, the chances of Shroomish's capture were slim. Voltaire definitely had to watch out - if the Grass-type were to use Mega Drain or Giga Drain to restore his own energy, it would prove to be even harder for him to capture the wild entity.

Lucario was successful enough to use Heal Pulse and evade some of the Mushroom Pokemon's attacks. Still, the paralysis proved to be a burden to Lucario. Lucario is frustated, he's so bloodthirsty and wanted to damage the Shroomish. If only I could make him spill his dark mood to that Mushroom Pokemon...

Oh wait, dark thoughts? Suddenly I remembered a crucial move that could help him remove his dark mood. "Use Dark Pulse and spill away your anger to that Mushroom Pokemon!" I said, finally thinking of something to weaken the Shroomish.

Dark Pulse is one of the moves I like to command to my Lucario if the target enemy is cannot be attacked physically. This move is fueled up by dark thoughts, fitting enough to Luke's mood now. I saw how he used this move once. He used this move at the middle of a battle. He was already frustated then, so I commanded him this move. He concentrated, then the dark ideas burst around him and damaged his opponent.

After sending the move, I calculated what move should I use next. I think I should weaken the Mushroom Pokemon for now. "After that, use a combination of Screech and Metal Sound."

Screech and Metal Sound are two noisy moves. Screech is like a shout of pain while Metal Sound is an irritating noise of scraping metal. I thought of these moves to lose the concentration of the Mushroom Pokemon. Before I forget, I said to Ranger Elisa, "I think we need to cover our ears. This one's going to be noisy."

Seeing as how his Pokemon was very much frustrated with his status ailment, Voltaire decided to put this situation into good use. After a few moments of thinking to himself, he finally came up with a plan that was sure to make the best of this not-so-pleasant scenario. He ordered Luke to try to use Dark Pulse, perhaps to expel all those angry thoughts and use them against the Shroomish.

The Lucario seemed to be rather frozen in place, however. Could he overcome his status ailment this time? Lucky for Voltaire, though, that the wild Pokemon seemed to have used a good deal of his strength to perform that previous Seed Bomb attack, and seemed to be using this time to relax his senses and prepare for his next move - he wasn't going to attack just yet.

A short while later, it seemed as though the Aura Pokemon had managed to rival the electric currents controlling his bloodstream. With anger still fresh in his mind, bubbling from within him, a dark orb of evil started to form in front of him. It was fragile, swaying in the breeze as the blackish-gray tendrils clashed with each other. But it grew stronger and larger with every angry and frustrated thought Luke put into it. I personally did not like this technique, for it relied on a building hatred of sorts from deep within, but in a situation like this, it admittedly fit in quite well, and reacting on emotions - even if they were rather unpleasant ones - was something to get this battle going, in more ways than one.

Deciding he had spilled out the most, if not all, of his raging emotions into the flickering dark sphere, the Lucario sent the shaky void flying through the air, leaving some traces of black in its wake. The pulse rammed right into the Mushroom Pokemon, sending him back and causing him to lose his concentration. This further led to him losing his calm of mind, sending the Grass-type into quite an angry fit once again.

"This one's going to be noisy," Voltaire warned after he asked his Pokemon to use a combination of Screech and Metal Sound - two moves that surely were not going to be pleasing to the ears.

I retrieved Abby's Pokeball from inside my bag, deciding to save her the trouble of having to put up with the sound-based moves. A red beam of light shot out, enveloping the Ambipom before sucking her into the ball. I made a mental note to release her once again the moment the battle was over.

Just at that moment, a very loud - and I mean loud - howl echoed throughout the Gardens. Instinctively, my hands shot up to cover my ears. I swear, birds were sky-rocketing out of trees, caught off-guard from the painfully deafening sound.

I crouched, ears still ringing. When I did look up, I saw an expression of pain on the Steel-Fighting-type's face. I also noticed the Shroomish bouncing back from the Pokemon's torso, as if he had just tackled his opponent - and it definitely looked like he had. Luke's mouth was still ajar, and the pained expression didn't seem to be faltering.

From what I could gather, it looked as though the Mushroom Pokemon had retaliated with a mighty good blow to the Lucario's torso. This caused him to shout in pain, and fueled him to release the Screech he had been asked to do. It was also possible that electricity had took ahold of him, sending painful shocks throughout him - perhaps all the pain had piled up, causing one really ear-splitting scream.*As for the wild creature, he seemed to be cringing from the blaring sound as well.

Both Pokemon did not seem to be in any position to be attacking just yet. I voiced my thoughts to the trainer. "I think now would be a pretty good time to go for attacking the Shroomish. It doesn't look like it's gonna recover from that Screech any time soon." Hopefully Luke's paralysis would not hinder him from taking advantage of the current situation.

Lucario did well on his Screech attack. The Mushroom Pokemon was now unfocused and frustated. Now, what move should I do next? Dark Pulse wouldn't work like it did a while ago, since Luke's feeling calm now except for his paralysis. If I could make him formulate another dark thought...

Wait, I think I could! Nasty Plot could help in making him think of those dark thoughts again, and the move could help in his attacks somehow. "Luke, use Nasty Plot!"

Nasty Plot is indeed nasty. It makes the user think of malicious or simply dark ideas, and can fuel up another Dark Pulse attack without the help of the Grass-type opponent.

I commanded him again, "Use another Dark Pulse, Lucario!"

Just like how he did this attack then, his dark ideas would materialize in front of him. It grows larger and larger, and when it's sufficiently large enough, he would send it to the Mushroom Pokemon and the void would explode into black, air-filling auras.

I just hope he could perform those. Anyways, I'm planning to switch him out of the battle.

Voltaire quickly assessed the situation then called for a Nasty Plot. At first I did not quite understand his train of thought, but once he gave his next command, I connected the two moves and finally understood.

Nasty Plot would generate more harsh thinking, and if this was followed by a Dark Pulse, then Lucario would have prepared himself with enough dark thoughts to create a decently-sized black orb of evil. It was, honestly, not a bad plan - except that Luke's paralysis was a potential threat.

Though Luke's hasty nature was telling him to just attack strait away, he managed to obey his trainer's commands. He focused on the anger inside of him, using this fierceness as a tool in battle. He awakened an old grudge within him as he glared the wild Pokemon down, his eyes just gleaming with a strong hatred for the paralysis that had been inflicted on him. For sure, he was building some rather nasty thoughts in that head of his as the rage built up inside of him. It was as though he was creating one big master plan to destroy that Mushroom Pokemon.

Once he was done with all the evil plotting of his, a blackish-gray orb once again started to form in front of him. Just as before, it continued to grow bigger and stronger with each dark thought expelled from the Aura Pokemon's mind. The sphere flickered in the breeze as it continued to grow, and it ended up being just about as big as the previous ball of darkness.

The pulse was rather fragile as it soared through the air, considering how it was only strung together with tendrils of nasty thoughts. The orb soon came into contact with its target, sending the Grass-type tumbling back, caught off guard once more. You couldn't blame the Shroomish, though - after all, Luke's earlier howls definitely were nothing to be joking about.

The Mushroom Pokemon picked himself up, a defiant expression plastered on his face. Closing his eyes in concentration, he started to glow a bright yellow hue. The energy around him pumped power into him, giving him a surge of strength, as though he was ready to keep fighting - stronger than ever. The yellow light dissipated afterwards, leaving the Pokemon looking quite fresh and stronger than he was before.

He then began to execute his next attack. It was similar to one of his earlier attacks, with a bright beam shooting out from the top of his head. This ray of Grass-type energy quickly enclosed the Steel-Fighting-type in a glowing bubble, draining him of his health. The light sucked the life out of him, stealing his power and transporting it back to the Shroomish. As Luke lost energy, his opponent gained some, with the particles zipping through the shining beam.

The Mushroom Pokemon smiled, happy to have snatched some health from his enemy. He then proceeded to gather up some more power from within, letting it bubble up his throat. His mouth opened, revealing light blue colored seeds forming near his lips. Soon, he would fire them at high speeds, as if they were bullets whizzing through the air.

I was rather surprised, though - Bullet Seed wasn't an attack you would normally see a Shroomish using, considering it was a wild one. Then it occurred to me that this could have happened through breeding - he might have gotten the move from one of his parents either that or he had learned it some other way.

"Ranger Elisa, is it okay to switch Lucario over?" I asked the Ranger.

"Sure, you may switch him," she said, friendly as ever.

After her approval, I took Luke's Poke Ball to switch over another Pokemon of mine. The Lucario was hit by a red light from the middle button of the Poke Ball, and de-materialized into a red light and entered the Poke Ball. "Good job, Luke. You deserve that rest." I said to the Poke Ball I held.

I quickly took another Poke Ball and released my next Pokemon, a Flygon. "Go, Flyon!" I shouted as I released the Mystic Pokemon from his Poke Ball. The Flygon went out of his Poke Ball and roared fiercely but modestly, floating in the wind using his red-edged, rhombus-shaped wings and his slender, green body relaxed in the air.

I knew that Flyon is a modest Pokemon, so I'm off from Contest-styled moves and he's into simply done moves.

About the Shroomish, it seems that it's going to do a Bullet Seed attack, so I thought of a way to make dizzy the Mushroom Pokemon. But before I sent the move, I said to the Ranger, "Cover your ears again. You could get dizzy."

Then, I commanded the Mystic Pokemon, "Flygon, use Supersonic!"

Supersonic is one of the moves that can be either annoying or helpful. Flyon would shout with the shout's sound waves directing to the opponent. If ever the victim hears the painful, nausea-inducing scream, the Pokemon would then be dizzy and confused.

If this move ever hits the Shroomish, it could hep in stooping its Bullet Seed attack.

Deciding that Luke had already taken a significant amount of damage from the battle and had done a good deal to the Shroomish as well, Voltaire called the Lucario back to his Pokeball. Tucking the Pokeball away, he brought out a similar red-and-white orb. With a zap of bright white light, his Flygon materialized in the air, flapping his brilliant green wings.

The trainer quickly ordered the Mystic Pokemon to use Supersonic, in the hopes that the unpleasant sound waves would confuse the Mushroom Pokemon, hindering him from attacking. It was another sound-based move, and learning from our previous experience with Screech, I quickly covered my ears.

Just at that moment, the glowing seeds from inside the Grass-type's mouth shot out, flying through the air at an incredibly high velocity - as to what had fueled it to go that fast, I had no idea. Flyon was quick to react, however, and soon countered the blue spheroids with a blast of sonic waves. The rings were barely even visible in the bright sunlight, just tiny traces of it here and there - but then again, you couldn't expect much of a visual show when it was a sound-based move, after all.

The Flygon maintained a steady flow of these waves, some of them clashing with the seeds, canceling each other out, while others were skillfully maneuvered by the creature to head straight towards the opponent. As the Supersonic took control of Shroomish's mind, the stream of bullet seeds wavered and decreased in speed and power. He fought hard against the confusion threatening to overcome its head, however, the sound had already gotten to him, making his head spin.

The wild creature soon turned in other directions, firing what remained of the attack upwards, downwards, and to the trees surrounding the battlefield. The seeds which hit the grassy ground soon disappeared; those that went up were, for the most part, evaded by Flyon, though a few did manage to leave a mark; and the bullets that went banging into the tree bounced back, hitting the dizzy little Mushroom Pokemon, letting him have a taste of his own medicine. Those seeds were obviously slower than what they should've been, thus having less power, however, they were still good enough to deal some amount of damage to both Pokemon.

"The Shroomish is pretty weak right now, but perhaps not completely ripe for catching just yet," I told Voltaire, calculating a rough estimate of the Grass-type's remaining energy. "Maybe around ten to twenty percent more damage to his health would be good."
