Swampert let loose a powerful cyan beam of ice towards the unsuspecting Gligar. Surprisingly, the small bat-like Pokemon caught sight of the incoming attack, and attempted to dodge it the best it possibly could. Swampert followed its opponent with the projectile through the air, until finally making contact with the Gligars wing. It tumbled wildly as it fell, until it stabilized its fall. Still falling quickly, the small creature turned the falling into an attack on Swampert, its tail glowing blue with power. Swampert watched the enemy, as the Gligar closed in, swinging it's tail right towards Swamperts' back. The attack connected before I could react with a way for my partner to dodge it, but my Swampert was strong, and a water-type; It was obvious the Gligar tried a water based attack. My partner shook it off, showing very little damage overall. Sighing in relief, I turn to issue new commands while the Gligar was getting its footing.

"Alright, Swampert! Let's end this quickly, now. Rush in with a Waterfall!"

With that, Swampert started running towards the Gligar, who was glaring at my partner with vicious intent. Swampert suddenly started to spew water from its' mouth, focusing it into a powerful blast. Aiming straight at the ground, the power of the flowing water lifts Swampert into the air. For a moment, it looks like my partner was floating in mid-air, while he started to gather strength to smash down on the enemy. From the looks of it, my Swampert was going to use the power of the water propelling him to land a strengthened punch on the Gligar.

“Alright, Swampert! Let’s end this quickly, now, Rush in with a Waterfall!” Taither responded immediately after watching his Swampert get hit by the Aqua Tail. It was a really decent move for Taither to use on the Gligar.

Since Waterfall was a Water type attack it would gain STAB for using the move, plus it happened to be super effective against Gligar because it was a Ground type. The only problem was that Taither was using back-to-back super-effective moves. This was a risky strategy because he ran the risk of quickly wearing out the Gligar and causing it to faint. If that happened then Taither wouldn’t be able to capture the Pokemon, as stated by the Park Rules which forbid capturing knocked out Pokemon. I could only hope his strategy worked, otherwise he would be out of a Gligar.

Gligar heard Taither call out an attack and decided to attack first. Despite not being able to use its wing because it was frozen, it decided to opt for a Flying type attack. It slammed its thick tail into the earth and used the force to catapult the Pokemon into the air, right about the Swampert. It flipped in the air and brought its tail and claws down upon Swampert hard.

I knew the attack to be Acrobatics, a powerful Flying type move if the Pokemon using it wasn’t carrying an item. Unfortunately for the Swampert Gligar wasn’t using an item so the attack would do the maximum amount of damage able, which was a hefty amount indeed.

Swampert was a bulky Pokemon though and recovered almost immediately. As Gligar rebounded away the Swampert charged after it. When it was about ten feet away it sprayed a powerful jet of water at the earth, sending it skyward just like Gligar had. The only difference was that Swampert was using water to boost it. When it reached the height of its ‘jump’ a cloak of water appeared around its right fist, appearing to be a ball of water.

Swampert roared a challenge at Gligar and brought its fist down hard on the head of Gligar, sending water splashing everywhere. The attack caused Gligar to stumble back and fall back on its tail. Despite the pain, there was a good note to the Waterfall attack. It melted the ice on its wing, allowing the Gligar to fly once more, which it immediately did.

    @AmericanTreeFrog Male, please.

Swamperts fist smashed down on the partially frozen Gligar, smacking the defenseless bat-like Pokemon down into the ground, sending it skidding backwards. Water splashed outward from where the hit connected, soaking the ground around Swampert. The Gligar seemed to take a good amount of damage, but sadly the ice was broken off of its wing, allowing it to once again fly. With that, it gained most of its mobility and strength back. It would take a good deal of strategic planning to bring the Gligar down enough to capture it. The small Pokemon took to the air right away, hovering and sizing up Swampert, who showed no hesitation; definitely proving to be a formidable match. Turning to Swampert, I started to think up a plan of attack.

"Alright Swampert, toss a Mud Bomb at the Gligar! Maybe that will immobilize it for us!"

With that, Swampert started munching down some dirt below him, while also gurgling up water from his water storage organs. With a mouth full of water and dirt, quickly becoming a big glob of mud inside his mouth. Some of the mud dripped from Swamperts lips while he watched the enemy for movement, keeping himself on his toes in case of an attack.

To my surprise Taither ordered a weird move. “Alright, Swampert, toss a Mud Bomb at the Gligar! Maybe that will immobilize it for us!”

The Swampert responded immediately by munching a bunch of dirt and mixing it with some water, quickly forming a large blob of mud. When the Swampert had accumulated enough, it looked up at Gligar and took careful aim. When it thought it had a good chance it fired the attack at Gligar.

The Gligar chortled with delight and easily dodged the slow moving attack. Because Mud Bomb was a Ground attack it was hard for the move to even tough Flying types, or Pokemon with the ability Levitate. Gligar didn’t know Levitate, but it could fly pretty darn good for a Ground Pokemon.

The Gligar swooped low over Swampert and gathered an armful of stones. It increased altitude over Swampert and began to pepper it with the sharp stones. The sharp stones glittered in the sun and I knew the Gligar was affecting them. That most likely meant that the Pokemon was using Stone Edge, a strong Rock move that could do a lot of damage. I knew however that it wouldn’t do that much to Swampert because Swampert was Ground and Water, types that did very well against Rock attacks.

The Gligar was low on health, but it was giving as good as it got and was enjoying the battle immensely. Swampert was also low on health so Taither would have to be careful that his own Pokemon didn’t get knocked out.

@AmericanTreeFrog- Sorry for the delay, started a new job and have had NO time lately. Should be posting more often now that I'm more used to my schedule.

[D'oh!] I said in my head, [Why did I use a ground type move? They're too slow to hit fliers.] As I beat myself up, the Gligar countered and took a portion of Swamperts health out with a swift Stone Edge. Swampert was still in the game, but barely. It was going to take some well-timed attacks to bring the Gligar down to be caught. It fluttered around after its attack, apparently enjoying the fight. It looked pleased with itself, albeit hurting from the beating it took earlier. It was somewhat easier to read now, after being worn down as much as this battle did to both parties. Thinking about that, I turn to Swampert, who was regaining his composure while I took a minute to think up a plan.

"Alright partner, we're going to play a little 'D'. Charge up a couple shots of Water Gun, but keep in mind not to hit too strongly with them. We want this little guy on our side."

Swampert looked at me before nodding with a look of sheer adrenaline. He was definitely pumped up despite his injuries. With that, he started gathering water; afternoon dew, humidity, and whatever was left in his sac-like organ he stored water in to keep himself hydrated and to use water-type attacks when out of reach of a pond or other sources of water. Swamperts cheeks puffed out little by little as he gathered the water, obviously leftover from a full water-sac.

"Now when it draws near, show off your sharpshooting and take it down!" I called out to him, backing up a little so he had more room to maneuver in case needed.

Taither kicked himself mentally over the basic error he had just made of using a Ground attack against a Flying type. It was an error that a rookie or someone who wasn’t paying attention usually made. The good news was that despite the error his Swampert was still in the fight, despite being heavily wounded.

As the Gligar continued its aerial maneuvers Taither focused on his next bout of attacks. After about a minute of thought he turned to his tired Swampert. “Alright partner, we’re going to play a little ‘D’,” he said, referring to defense. “Charge up a couple shots of Water Gun, but keep in mind not to hit too strongly with them. We want this little guy on our side.”

The Swampert gave a look to his master and returned his nod, the Water Pokemon would do his best to carry out the wishes of his master. Because we were in a harsh and hot environment there wasn’t much water about, and what there was happened to be underground, meaning that Swampert would have to use his own reservoirs to fire off a Water attack.

His cheeks started to enlarge as the Pokemon filled his mouth with water. “Now when it draws near,” Taither continued, “show off your sharpshooting and take it down!” Taither backed up from his Pokemon, which turned out to be surprised.

Swampert fired the Water Gun, which instead of a powerful jet of water, more resembled water coming from a hose, only slightly smaller. The force of the Water Gun must have took Swampert by surprise also because dug his thick limbs into the earth to gain better control. I knew immediately what had happened. Swampert’s Torrent ability had activated, making the Water Gun more powerful.

The boosted Water Gun hit Gligar squarely in its chest. Being weak to Water typed attacks, the Gligar tumbled to the earth immediately. It curled up protectively and managed to shield its body from sustaining more damage from hitting the earth. When the Pokemon hit the earth it uncurled and pointed a claw at Swampert. A dark orb sprang up from inside the orb and was fired a Swampert, who took the attack right in the face.

As both Pokemon collapsed from the attacks, Gligar was the first to recover. He folded his wings against his body and a white glow started to shine from his body.

“It’s using Roost!” I cried out in warning to Taither. “You’ll either have to stop it, attack, or attempt the capture now!”

Swamperts expert skill with its Water Gun worked extremely well, especially so since his ability triggered for it. His ability is Torrent, which powered up Water-type moves when he has taken enough of a beating. The extra power while using so little water definitely gave us the push we needed to ensure our capture. The attack hit the Gligar directly in its chest, sending it spiraling towards the ground. It landed roughly with a loud thud, skidding across the dry dirt from the force of the emergency landing. Even after tumbling about, the small Pokemon still launched its attack, which turned out to be a dark, orb-shaped pulse of energy. The attack flew from the Gligars claw and smacked into the side of Swamperts face, sending him reeling backwards. My partner was almost finished, having taken more damage than I would have liked from a wild Pokemon. Even so, wild ones are usually much more vicious and unpredictable. The opposing Pokemon stumbled to its feet, breathing hard, yet it closed its eyes to focus. With that, a calm glow started to emanate from its' body, which Gaius quickly chipped in with some useful information about what was happening.

“It’s using Roost! You’ll either have to stop it, attack, or attempt the capture now!” He called out from a few feet behind and to the left of my current position. He was right, this was the best time to catch it and end this fight so my partner could rest the remainder of the trip. Without wasting a second, I snatched the last of my stock of Parkballs and threw it at the Gligar, aiming striaght for its' small body. As soon as the orb left my hand, I called out to Swampert to issue a command. I knew the small Pokemon was using the last of its strength to use this attack, and if I was right, its concentration could be broken pretty easily at this point. All I needed was a few seconds for the special park-only Pokeball to reach its intended target.

"Alright buddy, we have this! Just try to break its focus with an intimidating growl. We don't need any more damage, just a distraction!" Swampert pulled himself together and nodded slowly, mustering up the last of his strength to start growling and what sounded like barking at the Gligar. Swampert was trying its best to break the small bat-like Pokemons concentration while the Parkball closes in on it. My thought was that if the Gligar was distracted, it wouldn't see the intended capture and the ball would hit home. This battle has been somewhat tricky, so I definitely wanted to avoid messing this up. Swampert couldn't handle defending against the Gligar any more in his condition, and I don't want to resort to another of my team. Hopefully, the distraction won't be completely necessary, but insurance if anything.

Taither reached into his bag and pulled out a Pokedoll as he called out to his Pokemon. “Alright buddy, we have this! Just try to break its focus with an Intimidating Growl. We don’t need any more damage, just a distraction.”

While the Growl wouldn’t disrupt the Roost attacking in any way, even though Gligar was weakened, it could delay the move enough so that the Pokeball could get there in time. The Swampert was also severely wounded from the fight, but she could pull off a simple attack like Growl.

Swampert stared at the Gligar and growled at the Pokemon. It was more of a rumbling than a growl, but it served the purpose of attracting the attention of Gligar. It opened one of its eyes and looked over at its foe. What it failed to see was the Pokeball Taither had tossed at the Pokemon.

The green and white ball connected with the Gligar and popped open, sucking the Pokemon into it. The ball dropped to the earth and wiggled furiously as the Gligar struggled to escape. It wiggled twice more before settling.

I walked over and grabbed the Gligar. “Congrats, Taither. You still have one Superball left so we can continue if you want, but you’ve already caught four Pokemon and you can only keep three.”

    @AmericanTreeFrog - I'm gonna rush the rest unless I find a Drilbur.

The small green topped Pokeball popped open and absorbed the small Gligar. The orb dropped into the dirt and wiggled around as the Pokemon struggled to escape and continue the fight. Finally, the ball settled down and the red light on the face of the ball slowly dimmed until it was completely off; signalling that the Gligar was caught. Gaius went over to the ball and picked it up, putting it into his pack along with the other Pokemon I had caught. Gligar was definitely going to replace one of them, and hopefully my luck would last a little longer to obtain one more that I would definitely want.

"I think I'm going to keep going a little longer, I'm looking specifically for a rare Pokemon. Drilbur." I knew they showed up around this mountain, but were extremely rare. Usually they showed up around watering holes or in the tunnels. Maybe I would get lucky and find one foraging around outside. Turning to my Swampert, I recalled him into his Pokeball and attached it to my belt along with the rest of the team. Pausing just before reattaching the ball to its spot on my belt, I told Swampert that he can rest, and I won't be calling on him for what was left of the trip.

"Shall we?" I turned to Gaius, motioning on to finish the rest of this exploration. Hopefully this will go quickly, and I won't need to push any more of my team.

“I think I’m going to keep going a little longer. I’m looking specifically for a rare Pokemon, Drilbur.”

Since he said he was a Pokemon trainer who was looking to boost his Steel collection this wasn’t too surprising, but Drilbur were really rare Pokemon. They were a Pokemon that was in high demand, being rare was part of that, but it was also pretty strong. In Sandstorm weather it was a beast of a Pokemon.

“Shall we?” Taither said to me.

    “Sure, it’s your run.”

We still hadn’t reached the summit of mountain yet so I decided we should head up there and see what else was there. Maybe we would explore a cave if we came across one. I looked for a path and quickly located one climbing the mountain slopes. I pointed it out to Taither and started up it.

We continued upward for about eight minutes before I spotted something. It was a blue stone with red tips that looked somewhat like a rock crab. I didn’t know its name off the top of my head but I knew it to be a Pokemon.

“You want the Rock Pokemon?” I asked Taither.

@AmericanTreeFrog - Sorry for the late post, been slammed with work and other crap I don't like. @.@

After our brief conversation, Ranger Gaius and I started up the trail towards the top of the mountain. All the while, I kept my eyes searching for any signs of a steel-type; A metallic shine from the sun, a reflective surface of an iron shell, or even the noise of metal slapping against objects in the distance. Luck did not appear to be with me yet, and the ranger caught sight of something well before I did.

“You want the Rock Pokemon?” Gaius asked me, pointing to a blue rock with red tipped spiky protrusions. I wasn't too familiar with Rock-types, but it looked interesting. It looked like it could be powerful in its own ways, but I rather keep moving or leave.

"Nah, I'm good. Let's get away from it before we make it annoyed." I told Gaius, hoping we could get away with no issues and keep up the search.

“Nah, I’m good,” he said, once he got a good look at the Pokemon. “Let’s get away from it before we make it annoyed.”

I hadn’t much contact with this Pokemon, in fact I had never seen one before, so I wasn’t sure how it would react to out presence. However, Taither seemed a little put off by the Pokemon and was concerned about it reacting harshly, so I decided it deserved some measure of my respect.

The Rock Pokemon was facing away from us so I led us to the right and around it. I kept an eye on the Pokemon, but it never turned to look at us. Once past the Pokemon, I continued to lead us up the summit, which was just in view. Once there I would lead us through a cave there, that would take us back to the base of the mountain.

Just before we reached the summit I heard a clicking sound and felt a rumble in the earth right next to us. I turned to see a large ant-like Pokemon crawl out of a hole, clicking its mandibles. It was a Durant, a Bug and Steel type Pokemon. I knew of a couple that were around, I was one the few who had one, but I traded mine away.’

“I wonder, do you have a Durant?” I asked Taither.

The ranger nodded at my decision to leave the rock-type alone and continue on our way. We snuck past it at a safe distance, which it didn't even move an inch the whole time we were near it. Once we were a distance away, we continued at our normal pace up the trail leading towards the summit. The path started to incline a bit more, slowing us down as we hiked up the slope. Trees started to become scarce, being replaced by rocks and small bushes. Not to far from the top, a clicking noise started to echo through the earth. Not too far from our position, an ant-like Pokemon dug itself out of the ground. It appeared to be a Durant. As I thought this to myself, the ranger confirmed that it was, indeed.

“I wonder, do you have a Durant?” Gaius asked me, pointing to it. I considered catching it, since it could prove to be useful. I was always given pointers on its effectiveness, but considering I have two bug-steel types already, I rather catch something a bit more exotic.

"No, as much as it would be nice, I rather keep going and keep my last ball for my target." I told the ranger, while continuing on my way. Durants usually weren't very aggressive unless a nest was nearby, but seeing as it dug out of a new tunnel and it was the only one we could spot, it was probably just scouting for food or something. I hoped that our presence wouldn't disturb it as we continued on our way.

Taither considered it for a moment before shaking his head. “No, as much as it would be nice, I rather keep going and keep my last ball for my target.”

By target he meant the very rare Drilbur, a Steel and Ground Pokemon known for its awesome power. I didn’t know whether he would run into it, but if by the chance he did, he would be a tough fight. At the same time he might be passing up on a rare Pokemon anyway. Unlike Scizor, another Steel and Bug, it had a high speed couple with high attack and defense.

I was about to lead us away from the Durant when its antenna swung towards us. Durant was a predatory Pokemon, so it might not take kindly to us in its territory. It clacked its mandibles angrily and stalked towards us. I looked over at Taither to see what he would do.

We started to continue along our way up the mountain, but the Durant had other ideas. Right as we went past it, the antennae on its head swung around to face us, and the small ant-like creature gave us a sort-of death stare. My earlier assumption that it was a worker ant must have been wrong, this definitely was a soldier. The small Pokemon was looking for a fight, chomping its' large mandibles loudly, as if trying to intimidate us with its' sheer power. Grabbing a Pokeball from my belt, I decided to tell the ranger what my ideas were at this point.

"Looks like this guy made up my mind for me, I'm going to catch it." I said, tossing out my Pokeball, which held my ace; Garchomp. the ball popped open and white light poured out of it, quickly forming a large shark-dragon hybrid that is Garchomp. He was definitely a male, with a chunk cut out of his dorsal fin. Besides that, though, he had a cross-shaped scar on his forehead and stretched down just below his eyes. I'm not sure how he got it, since he had this since he was a Gible back when I obtained him. He was definitely an aggressive and fierce Pokemon in battle, and has won many battles together with me. Once he caught sight of his opponent, he let out a low hiss-like growl, and gave the small Durant a staredown.

"Alright Chompy, lets start off with a Dual-Chop followed by a Fire Fang!" I called out to my Pokemon, who immediately started to charge for the first attack. I knew Durant had a very big weakness to fire, and Garchomp would have no issues using Fire Fang, a move he has known since his evolution. As I thought about it, Garchomp actually favored it over other moves not of his type. He would go well out of his way to make sure the move hit, even in the least likely of situations that occurred. While the ranger and I looked on, Garchomps claws glowed with a deep purple-blue light, which indicated the Dragon-type move I commanded him to use. It was a double-hit attack of relatively low power, but it was definitely a useful move. IF both hits connect. I didn't doubt that Garchomp would connect, but I called out to him anyways.

"Use the dirt ground to your advantage, Chompy! You're in an advantage with it!" Garchomp definitely knew what I meant as he started to launch the attack. He jumped onto the ground, which opened up almost like water to his sleek body; this was how he got his nickname as a land shark. He easily glided through the soft dirt, zig-zagging towards the enemy Durant to launch his assault.
