"When was the last time you went to Mount Deckbi, Elisa?" James Carter (a.k.a. Chainy) , an Elite Ranger, asked me during one of our chats with all the other rangers, who weren't out on runs.

I shrugged. "It's been a while - that's for sure. I believe it was with Jake, Jake Fennet." I thought it over for a moment, and added, "Yeah... That was the last time I explored Deckbi." That expedition had been so long ago (not a year, of course). Back then, loads of trainers wanted to go to Mt. Deckbi. In fact, I took three trips going there one after the other... Or, maybe, I had a journey through Mount Oktori in between. Well, either way, I still went to those mountains a lot of times consecutively.

"Good then," he replied with a smug grin. I looked at him questioningly. "You wouldn't... I mean, shouldn't mind taking this trainer to Mt. Deckbi, in that case." His smile grew even wider as I felt frustration boil over me.

"But.. But.. But... I've just been to Mt. Oktori!"

"That doesn't count!" he said in that oh-so-smug voice of his.

"Fine..." I muttered, which elicited a smirk out of Chainy. He slid a pale brown folder across the table. I grabbed it quickly, and glanced at it for a moment. If I had to do this, then I best be doing it swiftly.

I grabbed my brown messenger bag from my office, stashing a couple of healing and escape items into it. Herbs, Pokedolls, everything that we might possible need on this trip. I opened a zipper on the front of the leather bag, which contained all my Pokemon's Pokeballs. Nia, my Staraptor, could fly me there if it wasn't for the misty, dusty fog. That left Archer.

<Where to this time?> my Gallade talked through me through our mindlink.
    {Mount Deckbi,} I replied. {Teleport me there, could you?}
<Oh, the place you had always been complaining about, huh? I'll get you there, and I might even stay throughout the run.>
    {Cool, thanks! It's gonna be hot, though.}

With that, I was wrapped in a bubble of blue Psychic energy. It required a strong amount of concentration from the Pokemon who was doing this, but I was sure the Blade Pokemon could execute this move perfectly. I trusted him, as well as all my other partners. To me, that was what was important - the bond between Pokemon and trainer; the trust and friendship connecting them together. The telekinetic power brought me to my destination, atom by atom, molecule by molecule, body cell by body cell.

Now, all that was left for me to do, was to wait for the trainer. Oh, I almost forgot. I connected to the Ranger Headquarters' server using my Ranger's Digital Assistant (RDA). The trainer file, along with all the other information necessary for this trip, was soon uploaded into my device.

"Archer, come on out!" I tossed out the red-and-white orb, and with a flash of white light, my Psychic-Fighting-type emerged before me.

    {Welcome to Mount Deckbi!}
<So this is Deckbi... Well, it's not too bad. Just the blanket of fog, is all,> he said as he surveyed the zone. I could only nod in agreement. The mist was a bit thicker today that what I was used to.

"How long does this trail go on for?"

I murmured to myself, stepping over a large rock protruding from the ground under me. I looked further up the trail, noticing a flag just barely visible in the distance. I sighed in relief, tugging at the strap of my bag, tightening it against my shoulder blade. Walking a little more briskly, trying to reach the meeting spot. The belt loosely hanging around my waist flopped as I started to jog up the slight incline of the trail, the four pokeballs hanging from the drooping side.

"Whew, that was a good workout for the mountain... I hope the Ranger is here already."

I stopped to catch my breath, a small building just a few yards away. The outpost was right where I expected it to be, nuzzled right up against the start of the mountain. Slowly I start walking towards clearing, grabbing a pokeball from my belt and looking around. I soon caught sight of figures not too far from where I was. Figuring it was my ranger, I started towards them while clipping the ball back to my belt, tossing my arm into the air to wave.

"Hey! I see you beat me here!"

I called, trying to grab their attention away from the staring match with the shorter humanoid, probably the Pokemon he was bringing with him on this little excursion through the large mountain area. As I started to walk towards him, I thought to myself about the team I decided to bring with me on this adventure.

"Hmm.. So I think I have enough of a balance to take on whatever could live up there... If not, I guess I'll have to try a tactical retreat of sorts.."

Talking to himself, I get close enough to the Ranger to notice the Pokemon with him, A Gallade. Such an elegant yet powerful little guy. I started to wonder how strong it must be, travelling all through the Park and supporting the clients that pass through. I shake my head, trying to get back on track.

"Okay, here we go. Time to catch some new friends!"

I whisper to myself as I stop for a minute. I pull one of the balls from my belt and pressing the round button. The ball pops open at the middle, flashing a bright white light that kind of oozes from inside. As it starts to take shape, the light dissipates, revealing the Pokemon; Scizor, who flits his wings too quick for eyes to catch while stretching out his arms. He snaps his claws and smiles towards me the only way a Scizor possibly could. Smiling back, we start to walk up to the Ranger, ready to meet the person accompanying us up the crag.

I didn't have to wait long for the trainer. And when he did arrive, I almost immediately knew why he had chosen this place. He was the adventure, athletic type of guy - the ones who would walk all the way to the foot of the mountain.

"Hey! I see you beat me here!" he called, waving when he was still some feet away.

Once he's closer, his eyes come to rest on Archer for a while. Gallade was a rather rare species, so I wouldn't be surprised if Taither was quite surprised, himself. The Blade Pokemon was strong and amazing in his own right, after all.

He unclips a Pokeball from his belt, and presses the button in the center of the sphere. It expands, before popping open with a bright beam of light. On the ground, a silhouette of the creature is already starting to form. The next moment, an equally rare, if not rarer, creature appeared.

"Scizor..." I mumbled under my breath.

"Hey there," I greeted the trainer and his companion. "My name's Elisa, and I'll be your ranger for today. I hear it's your first National park run?" Wow, I sounded like a waitress: "Good day, I'm blah blah blah, and I'll be your waitress for this evening." Immediately, I pushed those thoughts to the back of my head - no time to wander off in my mind now. I simply couldn't be physically present, and mentally absent at a time like this.

I began leading him up the trail, stopping at the entrance of a cave. "Let's explore the cave networks, unless you would want to stay outside and look around?"

Suddenly, something rammed into my left leg. I almost jumped in shock as my head whirled west then south. I quickly pulled my leg back for the entity was just about ready to clamp down on it.

It was an orange Pokémon with an insectoid appearance; Chitinous in shape. It had a roundish body with a white underside, as well as short, stumpy legs. Its head was large in proportion to the rest of its body. There appears to be a gleam of somesort in its small eyes. The Ant Pit Pokemon's mouth is an erratic zig-zagging shape.

I brought my RDA up so it could make a quick scan of the organism. Even though I knew what this Ground-type was, I figured it couldn't hurt to get a bit more info about it. "Trapinch, the Ant Pit Pokémon. Trapinch dig conical holes in desert areas, where they wait for prey to come tumbling down. Its large and powerful jaws are capable of crushing stones."

I found it weird how this one was up here instead of waiting for food to come along. But, then again, seeing its recent behavior, I believe it would be safe to say that this was the playful and, maybe, naughty type.

"Interested in battling this.. Um... Energetic creature, Taither?"

"Do you say that to all the boys?"

I said slyly, chuckling at the rangers speech. She stood slightly shorter than me, about to my shoulders. I watched her as she spoke to me about the park, laying down the rules and everything. Scizor hovered next to me, looking back and forth between myself and the ranger. He seemed to lose interest in the conversation, so turned to the Gallade and made some wild gestures. I shook my head while watching him out of my peripheral vision. I sighed, moving my concentration back to the ranger as she turned, starting to walk down the path. I started to follow her as her Pokemon ran to catch up and walk at her side. Scizor buzzed along, seemingly enjoying the time taking in the scenery around the mountain pass. As we traveled up the trail way, the Elisa stops in front of a dark cave, the opening being quite large. I peered into the darkness, wondering what might live in such a big crevasse.

"Let's explore the cave networks, unless you would want to stay outside and look around?"

Elisa asked, grabbing my attention back to her as we stood near the entrance. I thought to myself, and then turned to Scizor.

    "Feel like spelunking?"

Scizor slapped his steel claws together with a clang, apparently happy to follow me into the cave if I so chose. As I turned back to face the ranger, I notice her jump as something plows into her leg. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a faint orange blur. My eyes dart around the rocky ground around us, looking for where ever the little creature could have gone. As I'm searching, Scizor lets out an excited screech, pointing to what we were looking for; a Trapinch. The little Pokemon scurried around and seemed like it wanted to play.

"Interested in battling this.. Um... Energetic creature, Taither?"

Elisa asked, somewhat nervous. I smiled towards her, figuring the Trapinch made her creeped out.

"I think I want to catch it. What do you think, Scizor? Up for a fight?"

Scizor hovered inbetween the Pokemon and me, turning his head back to look at me and nods.

    "Sci-zorrr!"

"Looks like we're going to try to nab it, then. Scizor, start off with a Swords Dance!"

At my command, Scizor seemed to psyche up, tapping its claws together and twirling around. The subtle movements helping the pokemon loosen up while a consistent clang comes from its claws during the dance. With each turn, power seems to mysteriously flow through Scizor. I could only hope that the move captivates the wild Trapinch long enough to succeed in boosting Scizors strength without any altercations. With how feisty this little guy looks, I'm not sure it would want to sit back and watch the dance.

"I think I want to catch it. What do you think, Scizor? Up for a fight?" Taither asked his companion. Scizor hovered in between the wild entity and us, then gave his trainer a nod.

"Looks like we're going to try to nab it, then. Scizor, start off with a Swords Dance!"

Immediately, energy flowed through the Bug-Steel-type's body. He crossed his two red-colored steel arms across his chest, and then the next moment, he was spinning at a rapid pace. 'Round and 'round he went, causing gusts of wind to breeze outwards from him, repelling all types of gases, spores, and powders around him. With each swift turn, the Scizor grew stronger... Yet, he was vulnerable to physical attacks. Fortunately, the Trapinch did not decide to launch an assault just yet... After he had completed this frenetic dance, his fighting spirit was uplifted; his physical attack power and strength skyrocketed.

"Scizzorrr!" the Pincher Pokemon growled powerfully, now full of energy. The Ground-type was not to be intimidated, however.

It began to jump up and down energetically, causing tremors to erupt from the ground. It continued to pump Ground-typed energy into the earth in order to shift the terrain around the teen's partner and cause some damage to him, as well. Rocks tumbled about, the soil eroded. The ground moved quickly, cracking and shaking. One protrusion even managed to pierce the Bug-Steel-type's wing as the rocky nature erupted up from all directions, dealing a significant amount of damage. Scizor scowled now, along with a wince, which seemed to elicit a smirk from the opponent.

The Ant Pit Pokemon was not finished yet, though. It gathered up its energy in a hurried manner. Perhaps it was afraid that the opponent would take his revenge. The Pincher Pokemon's jolly nature told me otherwise. He really did prefer making friends over battling in this manner... But, he did not want to disappoint his trainer. he would still try to make friends with the Trapinch - even if it meant getting this badly hurt in the process.

The wild creature dug deep into the ground, leaving a fragile tunnel in its wake, which turns into just a small trace as it continues to travel underneath the soil. For the terrain had already been shifted and shaken from its earlier attack, there was a possibility that the earth could come crashing down on it while it was still digging. From the looks of it though, it seemed as though the Ground-type was very well experienced with this kind of stuff - the Ant Pit Pokemon had burrowed underground in no time at all.

Now, there was no telling when and where it would pop back up. If Scizor would not be able to spot it in time, the attack could deal a considerable amount of damage to his health. Observation was the key... And it was up to Taither and his Pokemon friend to sense (using sight or sound, maybe smell and touch) the Trapinch's location.

    "Scizor, watch out for rocks!"

I call out to my psyched up partner. Rocks falling all around us, and the ground cracking under my feet. Dodging the falling rocks near me, slightly scowling at the foul move by the enemy Pokemon. As I'm rolling out of the way of a quite large boulder, a rock pierces Scizors wing, his face twisting in agony at the sudden jolt of pain. Quickly, I start planning out what to do as the Trapinch decides to burrow underground. In this brief period of ceasefire, Scizor flutters about, flexing its wing as to get some bit of use from it still.

"Hmm.. Alright Scizor, Trapinch's specialty is its burrowing. Even so, we're going to turn it against him. Use A Double Team and get ready to let loose some Bullet Punches!"

Calling out over the rumbling from the last of the falling rocks and tremors, and the scratching as the small orange Pokemon works its way underground. Scizor seems to understand, pounding its claws together as if to psych himself up. I notice Scizor still feels as if he could make friends with the tricky Pokemon, but we need to put it down before more damage is done. The Ant Pit Pokemon disappears underground completely, almost unnoticeable except for the faint scraping sounds heard through the hole left behind by the Dig attack. By this point, Scizor began to hover, his large pincers glowing white from the power being hoarded there. Ontop of this, Scizor started to make copies of himself, circling around the area, trying to cover any possible place the Trapinch could decide to pop up.

"Alright, now try to concentrate on locating him underground. Feel for vibrations or sounds and aim where you think he's going to pop up. I trust you, buddy!"

Encouraging Scizor has always produced massive results in the past, and now I hope that it will pull through here now. Scizor seems to swell with some latent power any time I cheer him on, probably from the nature of his personality. He always proves himself in situations like this; now to wait and see if the Trapinch will surface right into this trap.

Thinking quickly, Taither commanded for a Double Team and Bullet Punch combination. Scizor nodded, his body soon glimmering white with Normal-typed energy. He moved back and forth swiftly between a couple of locations just outside of Mount Deckbi. He was hovering at an incredibly fast pace, only appearing as flashes as he created multiple copies of himself. Soon, the clones had been formed, and they seemed to be under the real Scizor's command. They hovered together, then lowered themselves back onto the ground, keeping an eye out for the Trapinch.

They were in a circular formation, the attention of all four of them being the ground in front of them. The small, enclosed space behind them was, however, unwatched. The earth cracked a split-second later; he had finally emerged from the undergrounds. His large head rammed into one of the decoy Bug-Steel-types, causing that copy to vanish into thin air. He soared downwards in a follow-through motion, crashing into the soil and wailing in agony from the impact.

A cloud of dirt emerged, giving the other Pincher Pokemon the opportunity to charge up for the next attack. They lined up quickly, their fists glowing a white-ish-silver hue. The two other fakes were imitating the genuine, so as to confuse the opponent even more. Once the dust had a chance to settle, all three remaining Scizors were already zipping forwards.

With their claws coated with Steel-typed energy, they punched straight forward. Steel power combined with steel claws dealt a considerable amount of damage to the rather dazed-looking wild creature. I knew this species of Pokemon could move around at amazing speeds, but I didn't think it would be this rapid. Oh, that's right - Bullet Punch was a priority move...

The Ground-type glared right back up at its attackers, forcing the howl of pain back down his throat. Now was definitely not the time to show his vulnerability. He tried not too act too surprised when he saw three enemies, quickly standing back upright to avenge himself. Instinctively, the trainer's Pokemon and the clones backed away.

He launched himself at the Bug-Steel-types with his mouth wide open. There was a different kind of darkness surrounding his jaws. This was not the simple Bite attack. He clamped down on one of them - or, at least, he attempted to. Another decoy faded away, leaving two Pincher Pokemon. He pushed himself forwards once more, leaping into the air. This time, he crunched on something hard - metal hard. His powerful mouth was quite a match for the Scizor's outer covering. His jaw was a crusher - that's for sure - but the teen's partner also had a tough steel skin.

All in all, the best the Trapinch could do was inflict a reasonable amount of damage and create a tiny dent in the target's leg. He growled now, releasing his grip on the red material. He retreated a few steps, his jaw slightly aching.

"Good job, Scizor! Just hang in there a little more, we've got this!"

Shouting words of praise to the tough steel bug, Championing him through the rough bite the wild Pokemon managed to sneak in there before I had a chance to issue another command. Thinking quickly, I devised another plan of attack. Scizor seemed to wince with pain from the indentation left from the Trapinchs' hard bite. Although it gave some damage to Scizor, it looked like it severely hurt its jaw at the same time. I could only imagine how badly my teeth would hurt from biting down on such a hard chunk of steel as Scizors claw. I shudder just thinking about it, knowing my teeth would probably shatter with one chomp.

"Alright Scizor, time to do some trickery. Circle around him with your double, and strike with multiple Fury Cutter attacks!"

Smirking, I watch as Scizor and his double start to circle around the growling Trapinch. Of course, Scizor looked more like he was hoping to play a game with the angry little bugger rather than beat it up. Sighing at my pokemons persistent playfulness, I decide to leave him be with those commands, knowing he won't want to take any more bites, even though they don't take much damage. I still wouldn't appreciate being bitten by a potential friend, even if it was playful. Shrugging it off, I watch as red blurs start to spin around a small area, locking the Ant Pit Pokemon in the center. Besides the hum from Scizors wings flapping at top speed, clinking noises come from his pincers snapping about, bug-type energy flowing into them as he gets ready to launch a barrage of cutting swipes at the small enemy. The Trapinch seemed to spin around in circles in place, trying to keep up with one of the two red Pokemon circling it. Hopefully this will confuse it long enough for Scizor to move in close enough to pummel it to the point of a possible capture. All I could do was trust that Scizor wouldn't go overboard and KO the pokemon with the deadly power of Fury Cutter. It's a move I don't usually command of him, due to the exponential increases in power it gets from successive attacks.

In my peripheral line of vision, I saw Taither shudder ever-so-slightly as he watched the Trapinch back away. He must have been thinking of how hard his Scizor's steel shell was and how much it could have hurt the opponent's jaw. Nasty - that's all I've got to say about it.

"Alright Scizor, time to do some trickery. Circle around him with your double, and strike with multiple Fury Cutter attacks!" the teen called out with a smirk on his face.

Since there were two Pincher Pokemon, and both would be able to attack, they would surely deal a load of damage to the wild organism. Fury Cutter was a Bug-typed assault wherein the user would be able to hit the target with much more power after every consecutive use. The trainer ordered for multiple attacks, which meant they would execute this more than once - he really was looking to drain the Ant Pit Pokemon's health. There was just a small problem with this move: if the user was to miss the target in the middle of slashing, it would become weak again. Sort of like a reset button. If it was to continue without any interventions, on the other hand, the power would build up and become stronger and stronger, thus dealing some pretty heavy damage.

Both Bug-Steel-types dashed over to the Ground-type, circling him in a somewhat taunting manner. They began spinning around the area, enclosing the enemy in a twisting circle. As before, I could only see flashes of red as they darted around. They crossed their scythes, which glowed brightly green with Bug power. The next instant, both entities were repeatedly striking the Trapinch in a fury of slashes, each hit getting stronger than the previous blow. They were devoted to this frenetic battle frenzy, only attacking, nothing else. The Scizor's friendly personality managed to prevent him from going all-out, full force on the wild creature, though. And fortunately so, for if he were to attack with all his might, the Ant Pit Pokemon would surely have been knocked-out by now. Certainly Taither and his team did not want that.

Scizor and the decoy stopped swirling around as abruptly as they had started. What they left was quite a pitiful sight to see. Even though the Ground-type had a hard outer covering, the steel claws still defeated them. The scythes had managed to tear through the orange shell - just like what a pointed protrusion had done to the genuine Pincher Pokemon's wing earlier in the battle. However, these were much bigger; these were large cut wounds. The assaults had done a massive amount of damage to the wild Pokemon - no doubt about that.

Slowly but surely, he rose with fierce determination all over him. You could see it in the gleam in his eyes; you could see it in the expression plastered on his face. Even with the rips all over his outer body, he showed no fear, only strength and bravery... And maybe a hint of aggressiveness and rage. He knew he was on the verge of losing this battle. He knew he barely had any of his health left. He knew he was at a disadvantage right now. Yet, he wanted to continue. He was still standing strong within him. His spirit was still uplifted and burning with passion to go down without a proper fight.

The Trapinch opened his zig-zag-shaped jaw, using the last bits of his energy to release a stream of mud. The barrage of muck shot forward quickly, spraying all over the area. Great, more dirt for Mount Deckbi. I took a careful step back, just in case any of the ooze would come splashing towards me. The attack came in contact with the bodies of both Scizors, eliminating the last of the clones. The one that remained quickly raised him arms up in a cross in weak attempt to shield himself from the blast. It wasn't very strong, but it did inflict some damage, before the Ant Pit Pokemon fell back down, howling with pain from the wounds. he really truly was weak now. I admired this Ground-type, he really would stand up to his opponent until his body could keep on fighting.

Now was definitely a good time for Taither to attempt capturing the wild entity. Another strong attack would most likely cause a knock-out. A weaker one, well it would depend on the attack. You would have to take into account so many things now that there were open wounds on the surface of the Pokemon's body. I couldn't tell if they were very deep penetrations, but it was a risky possibility.

"Alright Scizor, good job! Perfectly executed."

Smiling, I call out to Scizor, who seemed to be worried over the condition of the wild little creature. Luckily, none of the mud came close to me, probably because Scizor stopped directly in front of me, allowing his clone and himself to take any spurts that came my way. I'm glad I have such a faithful Pokemon, but I would appreciate him not taking more damage than necessary. Sliding my bag off my shoulder,my hand fumbling around until finally pulling out a green camo colored Pokeball - the Parkball, from an inside pocket. Pressing the button, I launch the ball at the wheezing Trapinch, pitying it for the massive amount of pain it must be feeling from the damage Scizors attack did to it. The red steel-bug and I watch as the enemy is engulfed in a white light, losing shape as it's sucked into the small ball. This is the most exciting part of any battle with a wild Pokemon - the catch. Hopefully it doesn't have the strength to resist, considering it's so fiesty and determined to fight to the bitter end. I'm not sure Scizor could hold back enough to whittle down its health any further, and Scizor seems happy with the prospects of a new friend.

With a wide smile, Taither praised his Scizor a job well done. He reached into his backpack, rummaging through it until he found a Parkball. I recalled the items he had brought in were four of these green-colored, camo-styled balls and a Superball.

He clutched it tightly, pressing the button before winding his arm back. In a swift movement, his arm had flung forwards, wrist flexing as his fingers pushed the orb off. The sphere landed square on the exhausted-looking collapsed Trapinch - the light tap on his orange head already adding to the pain he was drowning in.

It opened, sucking the creature in with a zig-zagging flash of red light, disappearing into the globoid-shaped container. It landed, trembling, on the disheveled ground with a soft thud. The impact, causing a small cloud of dust and soil to emerge around it.

I could just barely make out the faint clicks the Parkball was making as it semi-rolled and semi-shook on the terrain. It wiggled and wobbled on the shifted rocks...

Soon enough, we heard that satisfying click of the orb. The kind that would make you swell up with joy of the inside, even if you were just the ranger. It felt good, because you know that you've done your job and that your trainer is happy. After all, he wanted this creature, didn't he? And since he had caught it, it was as though you have helped him achieve his dream.

I walked over to pick the sphere up. Afterwards, I carefully placed it in my brown bag. "Congratulations, Taither! Your first capture attempt in the National Park was a success. Park rules say that I'll have to keep it with me, though, until this run ends."

    "Into the caves, then?"

As the ball engulfed the weakened little critter, all that could be done is to watch and wait. Gritting my teeth a bit, I watched as the little red light shone through the small dust cloud, wobbling and shaking with the last bit of energy the Trapinch must have. Soon enough, the ball settled down to rest easily in the dirt; the attempt was a success.

    "Yes! Scizor, we got him!"

I happily called out to my faithful steel mantis. I could see a smile widening over his red face, happily throwing one of his arms straight into the air in celebratory manner. Scizors claw snaps a few times, the clank of steel on steel being quite loud with the Pokemons enthusiastic snaps. After a few minutes of congratulatory excitement at the first catch of the day, I grab Scizors ball off my belt. Thinking that he should rest awhile after the ordeal, holding the orb in my outstretched arm.

"Alright buddy, have a bit of a rest for now. I might need ya later."

As my words flow out, the ball sends a red beam of light that connects with Scizors chest, causing a likewise colored aura to form around him, before dissolving Scizor into the light and flowing back towards the ball, which opens to accept the light inside. Closing my hand around the ball, I swiftly return it to my belt. With all that done, I look towards the ball as Elisa goes to pick it up. Walking over to her, placing my hand on her shoulder.

"Please make sure the little guy isn't too hurt, whether I take him or not. I'd hate to see it suffer unnecessarily."

Smiling towards her, I walk back to the entrance of the cave. Looking down into the darkness as I think about what may lie ahead. Starting to contemplate on whether or not we should hike up the rest of the trail or maybe look for something that would definitely nest inside the mountain. What could possibly live in this cave? Hopefully I won't have to deal with anything out of my abilities to defeat... Since I've always heard that there have been legendaries spotted in the area every so often.

"Alright, I'm going to take my chances in the tunnels."

Turning around to face my ranger companion and her blade Pokemon, tossing my bag back onto my shoulder and smirking. There's got to be more Pokemon wandering around in the tunnels that I'd want than out in the open, figuratively speaking. One could only hope, I guess.

"Alright, I'm going to take my chances in the tunnels," the trainer answered after calling his Scizor back into his Pokeball compartment. I nodded in acknowledgement, then turned to Archer as he spoke to me through our mindlink.

<Do you have a flashlight with you?> he asked with a slightly bored look on his face. <'Coz I'm definitely not going to do any lighting up in there.>
{Yeah - I'm always prepared.} I grinned at him, and thought to myself, Stubborn Pokemon - knowing him, he wouldn't have done it, anyway, even if I had asked him to.
    <Hey, I heard.. Er, I read your mind!>
    {Well, you are...}
<I know,> he replied, chuckling to himself as he took a step into the cave. I stole a glance at him, seeing that cheeky expression plastered on his face again. I really could not understand my Gallade's personality.

I walked into the cavern a few steps, and immediately, I met the darkness. What surrounded me was not pitch black, however, and luckily so. Then again, it would be unrealistic if you were enveloped by blackness right away for the sun was still shining outside, though the rays were covered by the heavy fog.

The place wasn't much different from the outer area of Mount Deckbi. It was misty in here, as well - warm temperatures, too. The only not-so-large difference was the lighting. Here, the rocks and soil of the mountain blocked out most of the sunlight. In the outdoors, on the other hand, the light could not break through the thick blanket of murky fog.

I led Taither farther into the cave. Some passageways were very wide, others narrow. But, I was used to this already. With the tremendous number of times I had gone here to guide a trainer, I practically had a map of the networks in my head - and in my RDA, as well. Not the whole area, though, since the ones in my gadget were mapped by yours truly with the help of technology.

There weren't any entities in sight just yet. Truly, what you would find here was unpredictable. Some times, like in this case, you wouldn't encounter anything just yet at the start of the dungeons. Other times, you would be greeted almost immediately.

It was progressively getting darker as time flew past us. After some minutes of traveling in the tunnels, I decided there wasn't enough light streaming in from outside at this point in time and onwards. I quickly retrieved a flashlight from my messenger bag, flicking the switch to turn it on. Yellow particles of light streamed out, illuminating the cave like a sun coming out at dawn to light up the world (actually, only part of the world, for the other side would be facing the darkness, but that's besides the point).

"So, Taither, are there any Pokemon you have in mind that you specifically want to get on this journey? Or are you just going along with everything, just deciding on the spot?" I asked. I was quite sure we could eliminate from the list the creatures who could be bought from the local PokeMart. But what about the others?

as we descended into the caves, I noticed how bright it actually was, even though we traveled a good ways in. My guess would be that the light flooded in, almost like water would at high tide. Given, carelessly walking along wouldn't end well despite the lighting. The cave seemed manageable with a little bit of safety. After a few minutes of walking along the tunnels, we stopped so that Elisa could get out her flashlight. This ranger sure does come prepared, doesn't she? I could only imagine what she might have packed into her bag for this trip, knowing how perilous mountains can be, especially one as unique and active as Mount Deckbi.

"So, Taither, are there any Pokemon you have in mind that you specifically want to get on this journey? Or are you just going along with everything, just deciding on the spot?"

I heard Elisa ask, figuring she wanted to know what to keep her eyes peeled for while we travel. I continued to walk with her, thinking for a moment about her question. what exactly did I want to catch? Was there a specific type? Hmm, I know what my favorite types are, but I wouldn't mind catching others. I mean, sometimes having a more balanced team is the best way to go. Anyway, that's neither here or there. Best not to keep her waiting for an answer.

"I was hoping to run into some rare Steel and Ground types, since they're my specialty. I'm not closed off to other rare Pokemon, though. I guess you could say I'm looking for unique species with a preference for Steel and Ground types."

I continue to trudge deeper into the cave network with the ranger and her partner. What a sight we must be, two humans and a Gallade just traipsing down a tunnel into the earth. I could only imagine how the wild Pokemon living deep underground would think if they happened on us. Shaking my head, I chuckle at the random thoughts flying through my mind. I'm hoping the Blade Pokemon accompanying me isn't peeking at my mind, he might just get a kick out of it. After a few forks in the tunnel, we get to the point where the flashlight is the only way we can see anything. From the feel of it, we must have gone pretty deep into the tunnels, and no exits closer than the one we entered from. Stopping, I turn to the ranger and ask her.

"I brought Ye just for this situation. Mind if I Flash these tunnels with some light?"

Even before she says anything, I have Ye's Pokeball in my hand. Pressing the button on the round capsule, it opens with light pouring out from the middle of it. Taking shape, the light slowly dissolves until a Raichu with spiked ears stands in the midst of our little group. He looks around at the darkness, somewhat confused as to where I've dumped him. He turns his head back to look at me, his stubby little arm lifting to his head, scratching as if he was gesturing me to tell him what's going on.

"Alright Ye, we just need you to light up the tunnels for us a bit."

As I tell the electric mouse what we're in need of, he turns back towards the darkness, somewhat disappointed that this is all I need of him right now. The only thing visible at this point is the small Pokemons striped back. Slowly, its' cheeks start to spark, electricity generating from within it's body. The current continues to grow, illuminating the area around the Raichu. The mouse then threw its arms out, letting out an excited cry as light flashed through the tunnels, brightening them as if all of us were back outside.

    "Chuuu!!"

Ye cried out with the release of the blinding light. As the electricity dissipated from its cheeks, the rodent-like creature turns back toward me, giving me a somewhat cocky smirk while taking a few steps to be at my side. Now that there was so much light in the tunnels, I scanned the area around us. Every little detail of the cave was now visible, making it so much easier to spot any wild Pokemon that could be scurrying past silently before we stumble upon it. Reaching down, I give Ye a pat on the head, which he looked up at me during. I was never sure if he enjoyed it, but it seems like it was acceptable to do when he did what I asked of him without fail. Smiling, I could only be happy that we got past the twice daily electric shocks I received when I first got the feisty little Raichu. He was pretty headstrong, never listening and shocking me whenever I got close to him. Now as my hand stroked the short, soft hair between his ears, my fingers tingle from the static, but nothing more. Thankfully, he likes me enough now that I don't end up paralyzed like so many Pokemon we've battled before.

Taither thought to himself for a moment, thinking my question over as we trudged deeper into the mountain. After a moment or so, he finally answered, "I was hoping to run into some rare Steel and Ground types, since they're my specialty. I'm not closed off to other rare Pokemon, though. I guess you could say I'm looking for unique species with a preference for Steel and Ground types."

I nodded, taking note of this information. He wasn't like the others, then - who seemed to really be only after Litwick or Larvesta.

It was getting darker in the cave, thus I was grateful the trainer had brought his Raichu along. I barely had the chance to reply, only a slight nod, as he already had Ye's Pokeball in his palm. A flash of light, and the Electric-type appeared. It was confused, for a moment, due to the blackness. Next thing I knew, another strong glimmer of light, a flash, and.. Voila! The cave had been illuminated.

I was blinded by the sudden light, my eyes squinting as sort of a reflex action. I blinked a couple of times, trying to get used to the light again. Now, it would be much easier to spot the wild entities of the cavern.

<Ah, that's better! Finally, some light in here,> Archer told me, seemingly muttering. I could only shake my slowly (somewhat dramatically) head in reaction, not bothering to argue with my partner.

A few moments passed as we walked onwards. What came next was.. ow do I put this? It was a less energetic or lively way of encountering a Pokemon. Up ahead was a creature who stood there, stationary, facing to left.

It seemed to be composed of hard, angular, bluish-colored rock. Its most prominent feature was its bright red, triangular nose, which slightly resembled an arrow in 3D form. It also had arms, which looked much like compass needles, as well as legs, but didn't appear to have any joints. On another note, there was a small, circular hole on the underside of each of its limbs. It had similar circular holes situated on the places where one might expect its ears to be. The Compass Pokemon's eyes, covered by dark, somewhat mask-like markings, seemed perpetually closed in appearance.

"A rather rare find," I commented, raising my yellow-colored RDA so it could recognize the wild organism. Processing the image data, the gadget piped up in a mechanical voice, "Nosepass, the Compass Pokemon. It usually stands in one spot with its electromagnetic nose pointing north. It's said to be unmoving, but it actually can shift slightly to determine its location, among other things. When endangered, Nosepass may protect itself by raising its magnetism and drawing iron objects to its body."

I turned to the trainer. "Well, it's not a Steel- or Ground-type," I said. "Still, would you want to battle this creature?"
